That day, Violet was able to find out another side of Lucas. He truly was scary when angry. It was her fault for lying to him. If she was in his shoes, she would probably end things quick but he forgave her. She has a reasonable excuse after all.
As classes ended that day, she wasn't able to go home when Abigail finally caught her walking in the hallway. Although Violet was already prepared. She knew that there was no escaping her, she was still going to see her since she was her neighbor but to her surprise, Abigail was rather calm.
Instead of talking about Lucas Hei or about why she wasn't replying to her, she said, "I'll be eating out with Jasper tonight, do you want to join?"
Jasper Li was the school's guidance counselor who Abigail was currently hanging out with. They were friends... but with benefits.
Violet has always felt uncomfortable whenever Jasper was around and so just, as usual, she declined the offer. "I want to have dinner at home, sorry."
Abigail chuckled, already expecting the answer. "I guess I'll see you later.*
Just before her friend could leave, Violet called out. " Abby, about earlier..." She paused and was hesitant, not really knowing how to say it.
"Vio, you're an adult. You don't need me to check on you every time." Abigail suddenly said with a small smile. "You know what you're doing, right? I will support you on whatever decisions you make, maybe even try to talk you out of it sometimes but that's because I'm your friend." She held her hand and gave it a squeeze. "You're like a sister to me and I'm not going to dictate how you should live your life."
"Abby..." She has always felt so lucky to have a friend like Abigail. They were indeed like sisters.
"Don't forget to introduce me to Mr. Raven, okay?" She winked playfully at her. "I should get going. See you later, Vi."
And with that, Violet watched her friend leave.
Abigail was a wonderful person that Violet had always wanted to become back then. Well, except for being sexually active. There were times when she couldn't help but be worried for her sake that's why she has always reminded her to make sure that the man she was going to have sex with was going to be clean so that she won't be catching any kind of sexually transmitted disease.
When she went out of the school building, she saw Lucas, standing by the gate as if waiting for someone. He was being stared at by female students, fangirling on how cool and handsome he looked. As they passed by him, the students who already had him as a teacher for enthusiastically said, "See you tomorrow, Teacher Hei!"
Lucas would give them a polite smile as an acknowledgment. Once again, he seemed to be unusual. It was as if he made sure to put a distance on how he treated others differently.
Violet didn't want to think that he was giving her special treatment. They were just two people bound by a contract after all.
"Who are you waiting for?" Violet asked, approaching him.
He turned his head to her and smiled, somehow different from the way he smiled at others. It wasn't polite or plain. "Who else could it be other than you?"
"Oh..."
He chuckled, "This feels like a school romance, doesn't it?"
"I don't think so..." She muttered in reply.
"Anyway, let me drop you off to your place." He offered. "I know that it's just nearby but I kinda want to have dinner with you this time." He added, taking advantage of the time he had with her.
"I'm planning to eat at home tonight..." She said as an excuse.
"Great! I can't wait to taste your cooking!" He grinned.
This man... how shameless could he get? She was not even inviting him and yet he invited himself to her place!
He walked towards a car that was parked on the side. He brought a different car and this time it was a beautiful grey Audi A7.
Violet couldn't help but ponder about how rich he was? He sure looked like a man who came from a wealthy family but why did he have to work as a Chemistry teacher if he's already rich? Was he like her? Did he want to live in a simple life, away from those greedy, power-hungry men in the high society?
"I think the car I brought last time was only for single men. Does this car make me look like I'm in a relationship now?" He asked after opening the car's door for her.
She chuckled, "What does the car have to do with relationship status?"
"It won't attract that many girls anymore." He grinned.
She rolled her eyes and entered the car instead, taking a sit on the shotgun seat. She put on the seatbelt as the door was shut close by Lucas.
Speaking of cars, maybe she should buy one? Even if she liked to take public transport, having a car was convenient when it came to errands, emergencies, or with her being late.
"Can you help me buy a car next week?" She asked the moment he entered and sat on the driver's seat.
"Don't buy a car!" He exclaimed, startling Violet.
"E-Eh?"
He pouted as he looked at her, "If you buy a car, it'll mean me bringing a car will be useless. If you need a ride you can just call me."
"I don't think I should..." Just think about it was already troublesome enough for her. "We have different sets of schedules. What if you're at work and I have to go somewhere?"
"Then you'll use one of mine. We'll be sharing my cars soon enough after all." He turned away and started the car's engine by turning the ignition key.
If he put it that way, then Violet couldn't really argue back with him.
