Lucas was looking at her in disbelief, his gaze locked on her and this only made Violet feel guilty and uncomfortable all at the same time.
"I have to go back to the clinic now, check if there are students who need my attention..." Violet said as an excuse just so she could escape his tantalizing and yet inquiring stare.
"Oh, okay. I guess I'll see you later?" Teacher Guo said, looking at her.
Violet was relieved when Lucas didn't say anything to stop her from leaving although she was pretty sure that he was going to follow her sooner or later. She could feel the hairs on her nape standing up because of the burning, narrowed gaze that followed her as she went out.
As she approached the clinic, she saw the door flew open with Abigail taking a step out of the room.
Violet instinctively hid at the corner of the hallway before she could even be noticed by her friend since she knew that she was in it for one hell of a scolding.
After she saw her left, she rushed to the clinic and heaved out a sigh in relief after shutting the door behind her. She went and took a seat on the swivel chair. "I want to sleep..." She mumbled to herself.
Although she knew that she shouldn't do it or else, she might wake up in the middle of the night just to find out that she was locked inside the school's premises.
She took out her cellphone and its charger. She wasn't able to charge it earlier since she was already late. Violet didn't turn it on as well, knowing that there would be few messages coming from her best friend, asking why she was late.
Just when she thought she was going to have a peaceful lunch break, the door sprung open and the man she was expecting to see later leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed, his biceps protruding as he did. He didn't have a teasing smirk or a cheeky grin plastered on his face. Right at that moment, he was deadly serious to the point where the temperature in the room dropped the moment he arrived. He narrowed his eyes like daggers, aiming for her. It was as if he changed into. completely different person. His glare sucked something out of Violet. She visibly wilted before his first clipped word was uttered
"Who is Violet Song?" He said each word carefully and slowly as if to make sure that his question was processed in her brain.
The man standing in front of her was an entirely different person from the Lucas Hei she came to know. His gaze fell like an act of violence, a glare to stop her heart. Her breathing became rapid and shallow. She could feel her pulse pounding in her temples. Right at that moment, he really looked like a predator, ready to attack its enemy. But she was not an enemy. She couldn't blame him if he was angry. She lied. She could feel a lump in her throat because of the pressure he was giving her. She balled her hands into fists as she forced herself to speak out. "M-my... my real name is Violet Song. I'm... sorry for lying to you."
He scoffed in response. "You won't be sorry if I didn't find out huh? What I hate the most is being deceived by someone I trusted, Ms. Song."
"I-I was planning to tell you the truth once we've become close!" She refuted in her defense.
"Close?" He straightened himself and shut the door behind him before he took steps, one foot at a time one, heavy and slow, towards her. He stood just right in front of her before he bent down to her level, cornering between his arms as he placed his hands on the chair's armrests. With their faces only inches apart from each other, he asked with a husky drawl, "Aren't we already close enough?"
Violet's heart was already racing the moment he arrived but she only further grew restless as she looked at him. His beautiful amber eyes glimmered deadly.
"Well? Why didn't you tell me your real name in the first place?"
She gathered up her courage. 'Just be honest with him.' She told herself. She shouldn't be scared of him. He was not going to hurt her. No matter how angry he looked, for some reason, something in her mind was telling her that Lucas would never do anything that she didn't like. He was not going to force her into anything. With that in mind, Violet was able to calm herself.
"You were a stranger. I had to be careful." She replied without breaking eye contact.
"Reasonable enough. Although I'm afraid the contract we have will be nullified now."
"Why? I signed my real name there." She refuted.
"... You did?" He blinked a few times, his eyes wide in surprise.
She nodded, "I did. You should have checked."
Just like that, the tension in the room dissipated into thin air. It was as if the deathly presence he had earlier was never there.
This time, she broke eye contact with him as she lowered her eyes, loosening her balled up fists. "I'm truly sorry for lying. I just didn't want to be blackmailed too... I thought that I should be careful... I was just trying to protect my identity in case things became bad..."
"Fair enough. Still, though, I feel deceived especially when I gave you my real name." He finally pulled away and straightened his back as he stood there. "Cook something for me tomorrow as a peace offering."
She lifted her head and looked at him, blinking a few times. "Eh?"
"I'll forgive since you have a valid excuse." He retorted back to the Lucas she knew. With a grin, he added, "By the way, I didn't tell you my real name too. My name's Bill Gates."
A smile broke out on her face, "That's not funny."
"You smiled tho."
"But I didn't laugh."
