"I'll introduce you to him one day..." Violet said carefully.
"You better should!" Abigail huffed. "By the way, about Lucas-"
"Abby, it's not like I'm going to fall in love with him. We are going to divorce after, remember?" She tried convincing her to approve of it.
"Let's just hope that he won't take advantage of this." She heavily sighed.
"I hope so..." She replied, mumbling.
That night, while Violet was preparing for bed, she received a message from Lucas saying, [Good night, future wife. I had fun.]
This time, instead of having a blank look when she read his message, the side of her lips curled up into a small smile. [Me too. Good night.]
...
The thought of heading out to work on a Monday in a Sunday evening had always put a dampener on Violet especially when she slept late. Waking up was no longer the pleasure it was. Students were not the only ones who hate Mondays, adults do too especially if they have to go to work early.
Abigail didn't lie when she told Lucas that Violet could sleep 14 hours straight as long as the alarm clock was off.
Slowly and reluctantly, Violet uncovered her face. She blinked, closed her eyes, and blinked again. Streaks of sunlight penetrated the window and blinded her. She couldn't really remember her dream. It was those times where a person felt like they didn't have a dream when they woke up.
She sat up, dragged her feet off the bed, and rubbed her knuckles onto her eyes. She stretched her arms above her head and yawned.
What time was it already? Why did she not hear her alarm clock?
She took the phone that was on top of the drawer and checked the time but the screen didn't light up. It remained blank and black.
It so happened, Violet forgot to charge her phone last night and so, she ended up waking up an hour before lunch.
When she realized that she was late for work, she rushed to the bathroom. She wasn't able to enjoy her bath since she was running after the time but she didn't forget to apply her routine makeup just so she could hide her freckles. Her hair was tied into a low side ponytail and she wore her usual attire; simple beige long-sleeved blouse and black khaki pants when heading to school.
Abigail usually headed to school earlier that was why they didn't go together for work.
The school she was working in was located a few blocks away from her apartment.
She may be working only as a school nurse but there were daily check-in and being late only meant deduction to her salary. It was already her third late in the month.
"Good morning, Ms. Song." The security guard who was by the school gate greeted. "You're late. Again."
She laughed a bit, "Yeah... I should probably get going."
He chuckled, "You should."
She went to the faculty room just to check-in. Since classes were ongoing, the room was empty. She walked towards her desk and sighed. For some reason, she felt relieved that she wasn't a teacher or else students would surely miss her class.
"I better head to the clinic..." She muttered to herself. It was better if Abigail didn't find out that she came late or else, she would have another round of scolding from her.
She went out of the room and as she walked down the hallway, she heard laughter by the edge of the hallway.
"Ms. Song!" Someone suddenly called from behind.
Violet stopped from her tracks and turned to whoever called her. "Yes?"
A woman who was older than her and was dressed neatly, smiled at her, "Are you late again?"
She gulped nervously and chuckled awkwardly, "Teacher Guo, I really did try to wake up early... But it's Monday..." She said as if blaming the day itself for making her come late to work.
Teacher Guo laughed, "Well, now that you mentioned it, you do come late every Monday. In case you forgot, we have a new Chemistry."
Ah... She almost forgot about that matter. "Oh yeah..."
Just then, the school bell chimed, notifying everyone that it was time for lunch.
"Just right in time. Let me introduce you to him. He's in that class over there." She pointed at a room.
Students began coming out of their classrooms and some students greeted them on their way before heading out for lunch.
As they stood in front of the section's room door, they saw a man fixing the lecture notes that were on the teacher's table.
The man in the room was dressed in a white polo shirt that was tucked in his pants. Despite wearing simple clothes, he looked refined and smart, especially with the glasses he was wearing. Some female students who were left in the class were ogling at his handsome features.
Teacher Guo called him to get his attention, "Teacher Hei."
The man inside turned their way and just as he was about to respond, he stood stiff in his ground. He even adjusted his glasses just to make sure he was seeing things right.
Violet was the same. She never thought that she would be seeing Lucas Hei in the school.
"How's your first day so far?" The elder woman asked with a kind smile.
Lucas snapped and looked at the other Teacher as he replied calmly, "It was fun. The students were great and welcoming."
"That's great." Teacher Guo replied warmly. "By the way, let me introduce you to the person in charge of the clinic, Ms. Song. She was not at the staff orientation earlier since she came late."
He blinked his eyes in confusion, "Ms. Song?"
It was then Violet realized how doomed she was. She forgot to tell Lucas about her real name. She averted her eyes just to avoid his gaze. She cleared her throat a bit before introducing herself, "Hi... My name's Violet Song... Nice to meet you..."
