King Josephus led the group through the clearing in the forest until we found ourselves winding through a mountain trail. Sebastian and Leonardo had fallen behind, looking deep in discussion. I knew better than to disturb the duke when he's in one of his rants, so I decided to let them be for now.
Harper, the King and Queen were at the head of the trail rides, and Nikolina rode beside them, laughing at the King's story. I wasn't sure if her laugh was real or fake, but it certainly made the King feel good about himself.
'And that's how I rescued Harper from the visiting delegation's border collie', the King ended his story with a hearty chuckle.
'You enjoy that story way too much, father', Harper certainly didn't seem amused by it. He snuck a look at me and gave me a soft smile.
