landing

Touchdown. A new age of science and discovery has been born.

We have finally made it. Months of travelling came to this. Now we can finally start to colonize and progress civilization. If this mission is a success the rewards will be immeasurable and no-one knows what kind of scientific innovation will be reaped from landing on Mars. Just the amount of people it will inspire to learn and become involved in the scientific method will lead to exciting new discoveries and possibly great stories to be passed down generations. All of this was in the hands of 4 people, the responsibility was back-breaking and it all starts now.

'We must move now, there could be a sandstorm in just a few minutes, we have to set up at least one of the power plants. The weather is not looking great so I want all four of us to focus on this first. After its set up we can come back here and then if the weather is fine we can start on the next tasks.' instructed Rosalind in a militaristic tone.

'Okay, Asher help me with the boxes from the storage, Rosalind and Niels you two focus on setting the plant up. If we are well co-ordinated this may only take a few hours, let's just hope the weather doesn't change too fast. However a few hours delay is nothing to worry about since the equipment won't get damaged when we put the cover over.' said Albert.

Asher, looking tired as usual, went to his room and put his pendant round his neck and started unloading the powerplant with Albert. Rosalind and Niels wasted no time and started looking for a flat area to place the plant. Soon, a small crater was found, with a depth of around 50m the scientists slowly descended to check it out.

'This place is plenty of room for the powerplant, let's head back and start collecting the equipment to set up,' said Niels.

'yes, it's not too far from the rocket so moving all the supplies should not take too long. The spare room here can be used for planting seeds. Of course, the power plant comes first but we need to have alot of seeds planted soon so we can start building a thicker atmosphere and terraforming this place. The past few years we have directed ice comets here so the planet is slightly larger and there is also a reasonable amount of ice on the surface that will eventually be able to be used as water.' spoke Rosalind. They quickly made way back to the rocket and met with Asher and Albert then all 4 started carrying the first load equipment on the hover-trolley, a small, efficient way of transporting the goods, to the crater.

With all 4 set on their mission, only a few minutes passed before they made it back to the crater.

'Oh this is good, alot of space and safe terrain to move around' said Albert.

Everyone agreed but nothing was said.

'While we set up, Asher head back and bring some seeds with the next load of equipment please. With the risk of a sandstorm high, Albert can you please stay and help set up?' Asked rosalind.

'Sure' said Asher. 'As if I had a choice' he thought. He quickly made way and thought about what he was aiming for, 'have I finally found a purpose to keep going?' he mumbled to himself. He held his pendant tight and started walking faster.

Soon, by accident, he will realise how vital he will be for this missions success and the burden of his past life will soon be gone.
