Thirty One

We got up and followed them carefully, so they wouldn't notice us. We snuck along the sides of the road trying to avoid getting their attention, so it really didn't help when two guards stopped us. They asked us why we were sneaking around in the middle of the night, so in a desperate attempt to get them off our case, Nara pretended to be drunk. She dropped her body on me and pretended to be drunk and they bought it.

They asked us why we were heading toward the city jail, and Nara pretended that we had gotten lost. I asked them if there was anyone really special in the jail, and one of them refused to tell us, but the other guard told us anyway. Apparently, a general had fled from the capital to Kingspin. Upon orders of the "king," she was arrested a week prior and to be publicly executed the next day.

The other guard smacked him on the head and told him to not go around telling civilians like us about execution schedules. Nara asked why she was arrested, but they didn't know. I was to be announced before her execution is what we were told. The guards told us to stay safe and head home before leaving as we were trying to figure out who was in the prison.

We then realized that we had lost George and Joan. We turned to head back to the inn when two people grabbed our shoulders.
