Fifty Six

She had known that she and Kevin were half-siblings all along and how Kevin was sent away when he was two, so he wasn't present at her birth. They were introduced to each other when she was already 8 years old. Despite the 4-year-age gap between them, they were still able to become very close. She remembered the night when she found out the truth about our mothers as a, "sad, but reassuring moment."

Kevin came out of the room, crying, but once he saw Elizabeth in the hall, he wiped his tears and smiled as he took her back to her room. When he was about to leave, she grabbed him and held him tight. They ended falling asleep in each other's arms, exhausted from bawling their eyes out. She talked about him with such love and admiration that it felt like he was right there right beside us.

When it was time to get our rest, I asked to hold Elizabeth's hand while we slept, and she laughed, but agreed. She must've thought that my fear of the dark had resurfaced, but she couldn't have guessed what would happen next. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I was back in my flower field with Kevin right above me. He greeted me, but I ignored him and started looking for Elizabeth and Arthur.

He jokingly asked who else I brought with me, and Arthur jumped up at him immediately after. As they were playing together, Elizabeth fell from the sky into the flowers a little distance away from us. When she got up, she looked around and began to make her way to me. As she was walking, her eyes landed on Kevin and they just stared at each other in disbelief.

Kevin reached out to her and she dashed into his arms and didn't let go as the tears ran down their faces. We talked all night, but it felt like it was only a few minutes. When we woke up, I feigned ignorance to the "miraculous" dream she had about us, but I doubt she believed me.

We ended up clinging to each other for the remainder of the trip, talking, laughing, arguing. All of it. I had taken a short nap later i the day, and i was awoken from it by Elizabeth telling that me we had arrived.
