Sixty Seven

Intrigued, I tried to reach out and touch her long, silky, white hair, but she instead sniffed my hand and then sniffed me. I put my hands up to make it easier for her and I think she appreciated the gesture. After she was done sniffing, she rubbed her head on my hand and I petted her. I asked for her name, but she didn't look like she understood, so I told her mine as an example, but she still didn't get it.

Strangely, I found myself talking to her as if she was a puppy because of her responses, to the point where I remembered how much easier it was to talk to Arthur. I asked her if she knew Merlin, but her reaction was seldom. It was as if she knew of him, but didn't really care for him either. Petting her, however, put my mind at ease and I even wiped the blood off her face while I was at it.

When I was about to ask her if she knew Kevin, George called out my name in a loud voice, and she turned back to a wolf and ran into the woods. I waved goodbye, but couldn't help staring in her direction while I did. I answered George the second time he called out my name and they soon found me by the guard the girl had killed. Elizabeth, with a slightly concerned look on her face, asked me if it was doing, but I said it wasn't.

Since Keith was with them, I told them that a wild animal had killed him, but I managed to injure it and scare it off before it could hurt me, and they bought it too. Joan asked where I was, and I told them what had happened with Paul and the kidnappers. Elizabeth was clearly aggravated, but I melted that anger away with a hug in a jiffy. Although the gesture was appreciated, Elizabeth still wanted to return to the house, and so we did.

On the way back to the house where I was held captive, I managed to place protection spells on everyone without Keith realising, just in case. When we arrived Keith and Joan stayed outside to monitor the perimeter, while me, Elizabeth and Nara patrolled the inside of the house as George went to check the basement. I blasted the door open for him and warned him to stay vigilant as he went down the stairs.

He was taking his time, so Elizabeth got worried and approached the room with her sword raised. She went to attack the person going up the stairs, but George blocked her attack and joked "You are still being too weak to defeat me Your Highness." He told us that there wasn't anyone down there and there was no one else in the house. George then pulled out a small Pasiphaen badge and showed it to Elizabeth, making her smile.

As we were riding back to the castle, I asked Elizabeth why she was so happy and she said that she had the proof she needed to convince the Council to move the attack. Pasiphaen soldiers had invaded a peaceful land and even abducted a member of the royal family, which was reason enough to move the battle from the next week to as early as dawn.
