7.00pm
I chose the obvious – Han. Well, he was the first one who text me for a date and it's easier than tossing a coin for a decision. So, I'll give him the first priority. Besides, we are meeting nearby our area and that would save us a lot of trouble getting stuck in traffic after office hours and plenty of time to get ready for the date. Hmmm...maybe I should date someone who lives across me.
What about Mars?
Of course, I am meeting him too! I am meeting him for dessert right after my dinner date with Han. He he.
"How was work today?" Han asks politely.
Hah! You and Mars almost got me into trouble – I am tempted to tell him about the drama at work today but it only means he will know everything – to Venus's mind.
"Work was good today!" I bluff. Well, not totally, I did had a good lunch with both Rani and Xiao Sheng. The rest of the afternoon was smooth until my boss gave me more workload and a tight deadline to meet. I asked her if it's important as the deadline given was unreasonable. She asked me if I'm interested to eat grass for a change – for my entire life. No, I don't want get sacked and start looking for a new job because I'm still hopeful that her position will be vacant soon. Ha ha ha.
"Venus, is, uh, Mars interested in you?" WHOA. Han begins to surprise me now. I would like to think so. Otherwise, why did Mars ask me out too.
"What about you?" I try to divert his question to him instead. I'm checking how sharp Han is. Maybe he could read body language well too, other than read a person's chart – I think I'm starting to feel nervous with Han's query. He should be confessing his hearts out to me. Instead, he asked me if another guy is interested in me. Tsk. What a weirdo.
Han smiles broadly and says "Yes, Venus. I would like to get to know you better" deep down I already knew the answer and yes, I just hit the jackpot. I want my reward!
Han is helping out his father in the bookstore and has no plans to look for a job. It is his duty to take over the business since none of his siblings are interested. Besides, he loves books and is an avid reader. Imagine having the whole bookstore to yourself and you don't need to spend a penny on a book. Plus, he can cramp his brains with all the vocabs he could possibly find and remember them all! Come on, baby, learn those vocabs so that you can romantice me. Win me over with your creative speech. He he.
"Han, if I tell you that Mars is as interested as you are in getting to know me – what's your thoughts?" no time to play chasing the field because my biological clock is ticking away speedily at every minute. I better seize the moment and opportunity.
I am surprised to see Han perks up, straighten up and broaden his shoulders. The hunter senses that his targetted prey is also popularly hunted down by his enemy and his adrenaline is rushing high to get closer to claim his victorious prize.
"Very well. Let's all begin the game" winks Han. The mischievious side of him lightningly strike from nowhere. It near-missed hit my toes though. Wow. Eugene was right. The male likes to feel threatened and compete to win his lady. Ok. Who else are interested to fight for my attention? Come, bring it on and unleash the beast in you.
I take note that I should get a scoreboard ready.
"So, tell me, why are so intrigue in geomancy?" Han picks up the topic where we left off on our first date.
"I think it's an interesting subject. It may not be entirely within your grasp but there is basis to it. It gets your rusty brains kicking to function for analysis, in a very different way" my intruiging answer. Woohoo! I might become a Master one day.
"Well, in that case, you may want to drop by anytime at my dad's bookstore. You may like what he had just stocked up on the shelves" Han's invitation sounds truly awesome to me. I can't wait to read up more to feed my thirst for knowledge on Feng Shui, Paht Chee, Purple Astrology etc.
"What about you? How come you are as passionate as I do?" I am interested to know Han better and how he is able to pick up the subject by just snapping his fingers. Well, at least, I think he does.
"It's the same as how passionate you are as I am to get to know you better. The attraction appeals" Han answers with certainty and is making his move. Really fast. He is all out – it's now or never!
I'm stunned. On our second date, he confessed his feelings. The last bit which came out from his mouth made me feel so on TOP of the world. He finds me attractive. I feel sexy. He thinks I'm appealing. I feel sexier. Say more, Han. Do make me feel the sexiest woman in town!
The chemistry is slowly but surely bubbling in excitement in baby steps.
I'm so grateful to Eugene for his unthinkable act. He was right, I'm a SHIT HOT babe now – the sensational bubble didn't burst but persisted since my first meeting with Han.
Our dinner and conversation tangoed rhythmically until we called it the night at 9-ish. Actually, the night hasn't ended for me. My next date is Mars. My feet are not touching the ground now as I walk to my next destination. I'm floating my way there! Han's confession is not keeping my feet grounded. Feeling a bit high from being attractively appealing – I manage my shaky steps with the help of my injected confidence.
9.30pm
I am melting. Just the sight of Mars makes me melt inside.
Mars already found a seat and he's early, like our first date. I'm late, like our first date too. No, I'm on the dot. He is just early. I guess punctuality is his buddy.
"Hi!" I look at Mars searching for our mutual chemistry in his eyes.
"Hey" Mars smiles and replies with the chemistry in absence.
I wonder why. My expectation drops down to a small thud with a bit of disappointment. Whatever that was melting inside me earlier has turned into disappointing dripping water. Gggrrr.
"What do you want for dessert?" Mars hands me a menu and asks without looking up from his menu.
Now, that is rude. I wonder if the chemistry that we share wears off easily. Like a storm, it sweeps everything up within seconds and calms down the next. A rude awakening. Damn.
"Waffle with chocolate ice-cream" I need something sweet to boost up my mood. Tsk.
"What have you been up to?" I ask Mars to check if he is alright or was it me that was sensitive.
"All is good. Just got a call from my boss and I need to fly back tomorrow for work" Mars explains.
"Oh, I see" I thought it was me. Phew. It must be his work that the chemistry got blocked.
"Venus, are you seeing that guy, Han, whom I met at Starbucks the other day? Mars gives me a serious look.
Uh-oh. I sense something not good is going to come right up and out.
"No, why?" I answer truthfully. Well, if Mars puts 'seeing' as 'dating', then, hell, no.
"Ok. I saw you two just now when I walked past the cafe down the road" Mars looks unhappy as if he just found out that I am cheating on him.
"Oh, he asked me for dinner and so, yeah, we met up for dinner just now" I sound like a guilty child who stole her favourite candy and get caught in the act.
"So, you saw him for dinner first before you came to see me for dessert?" Mars sounds a lot more unhappy now.
I nod honestly.
"What? So, I'm secondary?" Mars's unhappiness is reaching a boiling point.
Yeah, I chose to see you for dessert because I can't choose you to do the main course as you were one second later than Han. Besides, everyone loves to have dessert after a main course because your toothie yearns for sweet treats. Can't you see that you are the sweet treats!?
"No. Why would you think that way? I'm getting upset that Mars is upset with me.
"You know that I'm interested in you and I thought you felt the same way. So, I was wrong!" Mars is not only unhappy. He is furious.
What is his problem? He didn't specifically ask me to be his special girlfriend or anything. What? His last surprise for me was a non-verbal expression of asking me to be his special girlfriend? So, everyone can go around giving anyone a pleasant surprise and that confirms, and affirms something???
"Mars, you were very silent since our last meeting at Starbucks until you sent me a text this afternoon. What do you expect me to do or think?" my turn to be furious.
"I have been busy. My boss has been chasing me for deadlines" Mars and his forever work excuses.
"Yeah? If you are SO busy, why bother to ask me out? Just go bury yourself in your work!" I'm not buying his excuse. What an asshole.
"Venus, isn't it obvious that I miss you and I want to see you?" Mars's confession.
I inhale sharply at the sudden confession. Wow. In one night, I get two confessions from two different guys.
"You know what Venus? You can have my dessert too" Mars stands up and walks out from the dessert shop. He crosses the street without even looking back.
Yeah, Mars? Thank you and you can go eat shit.
No. I'm not going to cry – not for an asshole. Not this time.
