Chapter Twenty-Four: Past: Changes

It's been a week and four days since Lucy arrived and let me tell you I for once wanted to quit. I was ready with Lucy to throw my hands up and leave. Probably back up my shit and restart my life when I landed back home. Honestly to God, all I wanted to say with all my heart was...

Screw it.

"I don't understand, we've looked through every single one of your accounts multiple times, renamed, reshuffled, and so on. How the hell is your company getting worse? I swear Owen if there's something your hiding from us or if you're doing this to keep her here, you have a motherfucking death wish." Lucy said loudly to Owen in his office. Her fists were balled up and she was about to jump him. Owen didn't know that Lucy had a great right hook but I wouldn't tell him.

We had thrown everything onto his desk, every piece of the document we had found and used. USB devices and so forth but nothing. My mind was even starting to play games with me. I was close to hallucinating. Lack of sleep was getting to me.

"Why would I even do that!? She's barely even around me!" he shouted at her, pacing back and forth in the office.

"Oh, I don't know, you sick idiot! She was barely around you before and your ass till chased like a hungry dog that you are!" she shouted back, throwing a glass to him.

Okay.

It's getting toxic.

"That's in the past! I apologized to her and to Michael! I Was WRONG! I Accepted it, but this is my company this isn't a game!" Owen snapped but then sighed. His body slumped down as he took a seat.

"Did you ever apologize to Justin! 'Cause I honestly think that God is punishing you properly with something that you love. It's Justifiable!" she continued.

"It was Justin's choice to leave not by my influence! And by the way, she's in front of me, unblemished and single with Justin millions of miles away! Now God isn't stupid, is he?" he said with a smirk.

"Well aren't you a very sick ba-"

"Stop It! Both of you! Now, this is about the company and nothing else!" I said tired of their stupidity.

"Call him," I stated as I sat on the sofa.

Lucy kept her eyes on Owen with an expression of hatred and disgust. they stared at each other with such emotion, I knew they would never get along.

"Lucy," I called.

"Already did it," she murmured, I looked at her with such shock, I nearly stumbled. I sat on the sofa, too weak to stand.

"What! When?" I asked, slightly shaken.

"This morning before we came in here." She said as she moved from him and sat on the armrest of the sofa.

"What did he say?" I asked with a low voice as I closed my eyes.

"He'll be here soon." She said laying her hand on my back, rubbing it gently in circles.

"Should I get him a room in your block?" Owen asked after a moment.

"No, he'll stay with us. Lucy will sleep with me and he can sleep in her room." I said as I stood.

Grabbing the documents and placing them in my bag. Lucy followed suit, grabbing the other evidence. We both nodded at Owen and left the office. I greeted the employees I had befriended, heading straight for the vehicle Owen had rented for us.

I sat in the driver's seat, quietly thinking to myself, he was coming to help. For Lucy I'm sure but after all these months. Almost a year now…I shook my head.

Was I ready?

"Am sorry I didn't tell you," Lucy said after a moment.

"It's okay. It was the right call." I started the car, backing out of the parking lot we headed straight to the apartment, so we could prepare a place for him and layout everything.

Within an hour and a half, we were done preparing. I was in the bathroom staring at my reflection. My hazel brown eyes were filled with sorrow and tiredness, my lips less nourished than usual, my long curly brown hair reaching my waist, I blinked and searched for the hair dye and scissors.

If I couldn't control situations, I could control what I saw. Within 20 minutes my hair was now a bob cut, dyed black with a few curls. I looked completely different the one thing that wouldn't change would be my eyes, still filled with sorrow.

I cleaned up the mess and attempted to smile but all I got was a teardrop. The bathroom door opened and I looked at Lucy through the mirror. She looked stunned and tried to utter a word but failed. I pulled off my robe and entered the shower. Adjusting it to warm water as I took a shower and cried silently. When I was done, I reached for the towel on its rack, after wrapping it around me, I stepped out only to find Lucy staring at the scissors.

"I love my blonde hair… it throws the man off." She said with a laugh. "But if one mourns, I mourn too. You weren't the only one who lost someone, I lost a child Tho. I was three months pregnant. I lost the baby a week before you called me. I and Johnathan weren't going well. We broke off immediately when I lost her… I still have her pictures and sonar video on my phone. It still hurts." She cried out.

"You should've told me," I said as I rushed to her side, starting to cry with her.

"I know but we were all going through something." She said, crying harder than before.

"Help me?" she asked handing me a scissor.

After twenty minutes, she was dark red hair with a straight bob cut.

"It suits us," I said with a ruffle to my hair

"Or we're being teenagers." She said with shock.

We stared at each other then laughed.

True so very true.
