Chapter Twenty-Nine: Past: Killer Surprises

For three days we sat in the apartment, food being delivered, taking turns to shower, clean up and continue working. I was in the kitchen currently making a third cup of coffee since it was a bit chilly outside but then I heard…

"I found something!" Justin shouted, I dropped the spoon and rushed to the dinning room. Lucy was on the opposite end mirroring my actions.

"Hit us with something good please," Lucy said, her tone laced with desperation. At this point we all were, I hadn't realized we all were exhausted from being stuck.

"I asked Owen to give me access to his security feed, his account feed, and so on. As I was trying to break through some codes, that he claims he didn't put there, I found another account hidden behind his with the same details as if it was just a duplicate created by mistake but this one is like a cyber account. Meaning whenever he gives clearance for a feed to the account or a new investor or new deal is coming in, the bank is notified then a plan is drawn up by means of security."

"So someone created the cyber account so that whatever he works on, whatever he changes-" I said

"It receives the same details the moment he types on any device." He completed.

"Wow whoever thought of that was a straight genius. It would make Owen seem like a CEO that's just overspending." Lucy said

"Exactly, so whoever created it, is either in his board or financial team."

"But how would they know what we were doing?" I asked as I remembered how it went worse since the day Lucy walked into my office.

"That's something I'm still trying to figure out." He said as he continued typing on his computer.

"This is why I hate working within companies because there's always a trace of something left or filmed in secret," Lucy said. I instantly paused…filmed…

My eyes went wide with revelation, I looked at Lucy and kissed her cheeks with excitement.

"You are a genius!" I shouted. She looked at me confused as I hurried to my room to grab my coat and umbrella.

"Where are you going?" Justin asked me as I searched for the car keys.

"To the office. I think there's something I missed ever since I entered that office." I said. Once I found the keys I jogged to the door and took the steps two at a time. When I reached the car, I realized that Justin had followed me with his leather jacket and laptop. I looked at him confused and he just entered the car since I unlocked it.

I entered the car and just drove, ignoring the heat that was building inside although it was cold outside. 30 minutes later we reached the building, I realized I still my nightie shoes on despite the black sweats I had on. I groaned and reached to the back accidentally bumping into Justin with my rear.

"What are you looking for?" he asked as if annoyed.

"For shoe's idiot, what else."

I finally found a pair of backup socks and ankle boots. I pulled myself back to the front only to hit Justin at the back of his head with a boot, I laughed.

He groaned and hissed a bit.

"Oh, shush don't be a baby, you deserve a lot harsher than that." I teased as I put my boot on.

"Not the time to mock or tease me." He said

"Actually, I'm enjoying it," I said.

"I won't help if you keep up with this." He threatened

"Oh, how sad, I didn't ask you to join me." I shot

"Fine, I guess I'll stay since you don't need me." He said.

"Let's get this straight," I said as I opened the door with force due to my awakening anger. "I don't need you, Justin, I once did but you can see how well that turned out." I shut the door and hurried inside.

Once I was at the door, I was greeted by Mr. Lungelo the security who'd been here since I arrived.

"Haven't seen you here in a long time Miss Unico. What brings you in on a holiday?" he asked with a wrinkled smile.

"When is it never work Mr. Lungelo," I said with a smile

He nodded and I showed my access card, I swiped it by the elevator and entered once I had access. Within two minutes I was by my office's hallway and I could hear a vaccum machine operating within my office. That's odd I thought only the security was here at this hour. Seeing as my door was already opened, I slowly pushed it and saw a man with a black cloak around his face as he typed away on my computer.

"What do you think you doing?" I asked with caution. He seemed taken back by my voice and immediately went into a defense mood. He pushed back the chair and stood in a fight position. Refusing to speak. All I knew is that he wasn't going down without a fight. Which means I was right someone had been spying on me.

"What are you doing here?" I asked again closing the door as I slowly moved around calculating my movements. I needed to get answers than help up here cause this man might be more experienced than me in the fighting.

"You shouldn't be here." He said with a deep voice, his dark brown eyes were filled with worry but also confidence. He looked at the phone that was on the table across the laptop, closer to me. He was going to dial for help, once he reached for the phone. I switched off the machine while keeping my eyes on him. I caught sight of the broom on the floor just an arms-length from me. We watched each other for 5 minutes straight and he said

"Let me leave and you won't get hurt. I won't tell my boss about this."

"Why should I trust you?" I asked

"Because if I wanted to, I would've hurt you by now don't you think. Be smart. Leave the office."

"True but there's only one problem with that."

"What?"

"I don't trust anyone." As I threw the vacuum head at him and reached for the broom with one hand and grabbed the phone from the table with the other hand while he recovered from the shock.

"Biggest mistake of your life, you harlot!" he shouted as he reached for me but I stepped sideways hitting him with the broom and watching it shatter. He didn't even flinch as he instantly grabbed me by my hair. I raised the broken section of the broom and swatted him at the back of his head. Seems like I was pissing him off by the minute because he grabbed me by the throat and squeezed ever so slightly.

"Should've taken my deal" he said as he threw me against the wall. I tried to gasp for as much as he marched at me. Obviously wanting to silence me and get the phone. I pushed myself to crawl away but he grabbed my legs without much effort I was beneath him. He hunched to search me but I swung my right hook hard and he hissed at the pain.

While he was trying to recover from that blow, I rushed to the door but he grabbed my hoodie. Pulling me back and slapping me. I cried out from the force that he used, he threw me again, this time to the shelve of books. My hip was the first to hit as I tried to protect my head from the impact. I cried out as I heard a snap. The pain spreading throughout my left hip section. I screamed out as loud as I could, the pain getting unbearable.

He approached me with an annoyed look.

"I never liked screamers in bed or in public." He said as he grabbed me by the throat again and held me up. I tried to claw at his face, but he only squeezed me tighter. My eyes became watery, my body was slowly becoming numb by the moment. With one more effort, I kicked him, despite it being a good shot he just groaned and lessened a bit. I used that moment to bump my head with his as hard as I could. He let go and I tried to inhale as much as I could, dragging myself to the corner as my sight began to blur. I heard him inhale deeply and slowly approach me.

"You're going to pay for that Harlot." He said as he pulled my legs to him. He threw me right across the room into a portrait made of glass. I could feel the pieces cut me, and my body slowly decided to shut down. He grabbed my head and hit me hard against the floor with force. grabbing my hair, he used that to fling me into the door and I fall back hard from the impact. Grabbing my neck again, he squeezed my throat.

There was no more fight in me just pain as my body demanded air, but my mind was tired. I tried clawing at him but it was useless. My body was losing blood and I knew that some parts of my body had broken bones.

"I'll make it quick." He whispered as we locked eye contact.

He looked at me with pity and squeezed harder. Within a few seconds, everything was numb and I was about to shut down until Justin came in the door. We locked eye contact and his eyes went wide with fury. The guy dropped me but I didn't pass out until I saw Justin punch him hard. I smiled and whispered

"Goodbye Jus…"
