Chapter Hundred & Nine: Past: Nightmare shadows

So when I felt the pain in my back, I knew I had done at least one good thing in my life. Yet when I locked eyes with her I could see her regret. Her doubts. Her self-blame. 

It showcased itself like a rare talent and manifested into a demon that would forever haunt her. one that would forever keep her up at night. One that would cause her to toss and turn. One that would keep her from reality.

I forced a smile before I let my body give out causing me to fall forward with a hard thud. I heard her quick steps and wondered if she had run away. Had she saved herself like I needed her too?

Had she made use of the decision that I had made for her or had she just planted her feet to the ground as though a concrete foundation? Should it matter if she didn't make it even though I tried to buy her time?
