Although I was in training to become a herald, I still destroyed anything that might be slightly dangerous to Vanyel. There wasn't much that happened unfortunately. I decided to make things interesting by opening up Vanyel's Mindchannels. If anyone were to check it out, it would seem as if they were blasted open like they were in the books. If anyone asked me, I'd simply say we were practicing and, at his goading, I attacked him. It wouldn't completely be a lie. He has goaded me into sparring him and practicing my Gifts. I've never accepted it yet but I suppose I will this time. Vanyel has a hit-and-run style of attacking. If I go faster than him, I'll be good. Now, to wait.
I didn't have to wait long. I had just climbed into the treehouse we had built when he came calling for me. He had probably asked the pages where I was because I didn't exactly sneak out. "Kayla! Where are you?" He yelled roaming my little maze. I was allowed by the Healers to make a maze as long as the plants were safe to touch. I grinned and waited until he got near the entrance to the center of the maze where the tree is located and jumped down, sneaking up behind him.
"Boo!" I said and laughed seeing him jump. "Got you!"
"Battle me."
"I suppose. You really won't let this go will you?" I say after a pause to make it seem as if I was thinking.
"Nope." He flashes me a grin.
"Thought so." I give him a grin as well. "Let's go then."
"Oh and no summoning weapons."
"But that's no fun!" I laugh.
"No. It's not fair. There is a difference."
"I guess." I smile. "There shouldn't be anyone around the archery range right now. Let's go there."
"Got it." He smirks. "Let me guess, you don't want anyone to see 'Her Majesty of Swords, Kayla Frost' get beat."
"More like I want to preserve your dignity." I laugh. We often have strange little conversations like this. "This is kind of off topic but, during our internships would you like to come with me to meet my big brother?"
"Big brother? I didn't know you had any siblings."
"It's complicated. But yes."
"I see." He says as we arrive. We had already collected our armor and weapons.
"Now, let's begin." I smirk after I slip on my "Armor." It's barely qualified as clothes let alone armor. I also use an assortment of daggers and other blades. Mostly daggers and swords, however, I can use anything with a pointy edge. Bows, spears, you name it. "Are you ready?"
"Of course." His armor was a lightweight, padded armor with a light sword.
"Great." I grin and charge at him. I went heavy-footed to throw him off and suddenly dashed forward, my sword hitting his gut. "I know what you and 'Lendel do every night." I whisper into his ear right as he goes to stab me. I dodge with a backwards roll, leaving my sword behind.
"Thanks." He smirked and picked up my sword, sheathing his own. Because I forge my own blades, I was able to make the weapons seem ridiculously light. "Now I've got a better blade." No regular blacksmith could replicate my smithing because I use my Mage Gift while forging them.
"No problem." I grin and pull out my daggers.
"Aren't those a bit sharp?" He asks before feeling a strong wind appear out of no where, dulling my blades.
"Not anymore." I laugh. "Come on! You're the one who was so intent on battling me."
"I guess I was." He chuckles. He begins his darting attacks and I simply levitate myself a bit so he no longer could reach me. "That's not at all fair!"
"All you said at the beginning of the match is I couldn't summon weapons. Not anything else."
"Well I didn't know you could levitate!" He exclaims. I just laugh and float onto a tree. There were quite a lot of them here in fact. It's quite nice. I feel the tree shake a bit and see Vanyel doing his best to jump from tree to tree up to me.
"Nice try mate!" I laugh and glide down. "Come and get me!" I transform into an animal, a doe to be precise, and run off. The way to tell me from the other deer is I am purple and the others aren't.
"How rude!" He laughs and chases after me. I run up to a boulder and, sighing, transform back and pull an outfit out of my air pocket. I slip it on and wait for him. We battled a while longer before I "Accidentally" used too much magic on him, causing his channels to be blown open. I hear a loud agonizing scream and he collapses.
"Damn." I sigh. "This'll take a while." :'Clipse?:
:Already on my way.: I hear a sigh.
:Thanks.: I smile and wait for her to arrive. When she does I climb up onto her back, still holding Vanyel. I grip her sides and give her the go ahead. She runs off, getting us to the Healer's Collegium quickly. "He's hurt." I say simply as they take his limp body out of my hands.
"We can tell." The Healer that took him said. "What happened? His Mind Channels are almost demolished."
"We were sparring."
"I see..." He sighs. "I don't think we'll be able to help him." I grinned, internally of course.
"I know someone who can." I say with a grin. "I need to speak with Savil. Lay him down, numb the pain, anything you can do." He starts grumbling as I leave.
"Yes?" Savil says when I knock on her door. "Kayla? What are you doing here? You look like a mess."
"Did you Feel that power boom? That was me. Vanyel is... Hurt. We were sparring. You need to give him and me leave from our lessons."
"For what?"
"To go see my family."
"Ah. To Heal him."
"Yes. He's injured so he'll get leave anyways. But if I go, I could lose my chance to become a Herald unless you give me leave. You stay and continue teaching the others. It seems as if he can use all the Gifts."
"I see."
"I can teach him. Remember, I can use other kinds of magic as well."
"Right."
"So you stay here, I'll give Starwind your greetings."
"No."
"What?"
"I will not stay. I am just as worried for him as you are and besides, you can't Gate alone."
"Who says I'm alone?"
"What?"
"You'll see." I smile. "If you insist on coming with are you giving me leave?"
"Yes." She nods.
"Good." I smile and head back to the Healer's Collegium. Eclipse is still there and the Healer was waiting.
"Will you be taking him now?"
"Yes I will."
"Goodbye Miss Frost."
"Thank you." I smile and walk over to Vanyel. I reach towards him and, startled, he attacks me with pure power. My Shields are on hair-triggers so they shot up as soon as I saw the power come for me. "Damn." I sigh, wrapping him in my arms and Shields. "We'll need to take 'Lendel darling Wingsister."
"I'll give him leave too then."
"Thank you." I nod to her. :'Lendel? Come to the gardens by the Healers.:
:What do you need Kay?:
:Just come here.:
:Alright.: I hear him walk to us, he must have been out in the gardens already. "Yes?" He asks as he walks in before gasping. "Van!" He runs up to me and caresses his face. "Oh no..."
"Will you be coming with us when we go to heal him?"
"Of course!" He runs off. "I'll meet you two at the temple!"
"Get Kellan. I'll get Eclipse."
"Of course." She smiles softly. "I will."
"Go." I smile. "I'll keep an eye on him."
"Thank you." She leaves.
:You're evil!: I hear a voice shout in my mind.
"Ow." I sigh. :Who is this?:
:I am the Companion of the one you hurt! How dare you!: I sigh.
:I see. If you must know, this had to happen. Would you rather him be like this and not have his Lifebonded?:
:No....:
:Exactly.: I nod and step into the garden. "Hello."
:Hi.: I can tell she really hates talking with me.
"Why don't we try this again?" I smile. "I am Kayla Frost. It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady....?"
:You know my name. I can sense it.:
"Fine. It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady Yfandes."
:Fine. Hello Kayla Frost.: I suppose because of what I've done to her Chosen, she will hate me for a while.
"Let's go." I smile. I lightly set Vanyel onto her back after strapping my saddle onto her. I strap him in and smile again. "There you go, fair lady."
:I will take my leave now.: She carefully walks away. Once she's out of sight, I vault onto Eclipse's back with a laugh.
:I love doing that!: I grin.
:I can tell.: Eclipse's Mindvoice was a pretty shade of sunny yellow. Happy but sarcastic.
"Let's go!" I hear the Healer grumbling again as we leave. It was said that it hurts to ride a Companion in a saddle much less bareback when they're galloping but I was raised in the middle of nowhere with nothing but my books and horses. So I have quite a lot of experience riding bareback while doing something else at the same time, including sleeping. "This will be fun." I grin. :Brother dear?:
:Yes Frostfire?:
:Look for some Gate energies that don't have a destination.:
:What?:
:You'll see. I'm in Haven. Reach to me here and you'll find the energies.:
:If you say so...: He trails off. Once we get there, I immediately begin the gate and it opens shortly after showing the somewhat snowy fields with my amazing brother there standing with another guy.
"Who might this be?"
"This is-"
"I am Moondance, Fair Lady." He bows.
"You choose your lovers well Brother."
"Why thank you Frostfire."
"What's going on? What's he mean Frostfire?"
"Ah. I changed my name when I went to your kingdom for some adventure."
"I see. So you went from an absolutely beautiful name, to an ordinary one?"
"Yes I did. Do you have a problem with that?"
"No. I'm simply curious as to why you have purple hair."
"Ah. That. That is from something special."
"And the wings and horns?"
"Same."
"I see..." She sighs. "Ah well. Starwind, my old friend, let's go talk."
