Player Nylon Has Logged Off

'*deeply relieved sigh* Finally!!! I'm back home!!!' I shouted in my head as I got up and stretched out my mental exhaustion!

It was still dark out, so I pulled out my phone to use it's light and looked for my slippers to get up.

I got up from my bed and found it tosled beyond recognition!

'Thinking about it, we've been moving quite a bit in the dungeon.'

I turned on the lights and took some time to straighten my sheets...

Then my stomach woke up.

*Grumble*

'Ah right. We've been in game for over three days, which means it's been over 15 hours since I've eaten anything...'

With that thought in mind, I made my way to the kitchen for some fuel. There I met Crash, sleeping on some newspapers on the floor, which subbed in for a bed. We haven't had the time to get him properly settled in, after all.

I took a bowl and made myself a hearty serving of Cocoa Puffs, got a drink from the fridge, and called that breakfast.

Crash woke up to investigate the noise and I served him a bowl of Doggo Bits just to have some company.

15 minutes of playing with Crash later, and my mood hadn't been improved a bit! In fact, it got worse the more I thought about it!!!

'I can't believe I'm back to square one!' I moaned again in my mind.

'To think that all of that... the shield, the mobs the slights in memory loss... was because of hacks!' it actually all makes sense to be honest. There are way too many spaces in my memory and almost all of them are related to feats that - now that I think of them - would not only be imposible, but down right stupid!

Using a shield as an attack type weapon… my Knife getting broken with one kick… all of those little conveniences and massive inconveniences… I should have seen something like this happening!!!

To take my mind off the slowly increasing depression, I went to the living room, Crash in tow, turned on the hv () and pulled up the BMO Channel.

They were doing a rerun of some clip highlights in-game, so I just sat and mindlessly watched the proceedings, spooning in cereal at an ever-decreasing rate.

'*sigh* This isn't working.' I thought to myself after a full hour, and I got up to turn off the hv and head to my room to play some games.

Then something happened in a clip that caught my eye!

I wasn't too sure if I saw it properly, or if I was just fooling myself, so I almost shrugged it off and went about my way… almost!

Something held me back and told me to take a better look, to see if it really was nothing.

So, after a decent dose of contemplating, I turned back on the hv, head to the recordings section, watched the clip to the point where I left off, and then put that part on a loop.

It was a relatively new clip – by the look of the area – where a group of players were fighting a giant snow crab named Syrus and got a beyond lucky shot and sent the thing flying by pure accident!

A few seconds before that, there was a part where the POV we were watching catches a glimpse of what seems to be a player fighting.

What I saw, or thought I saw, was a very lucky dodge on the players part. But the more I looped it, slowed it down, speed it up, zoomed in and out, and paused it to the exact frame, I found something strange. The player didn't dodge, but instead, the attack flew through him!!!!

Thinking that this couldn't possibly be, I went up to my room, Crash still at my heels, and opened ShroWd on my holo-pad.

Instead of debunking what I witnessed, the version on ShroWd confirmed what I saw. While he did indeed dodge the brunt of the attack, a part of it grazed him, but he received no damage!

Curious, I did some more digging, and found that this was far from being rare.

In fact, it was almost common in a sense! That sense being that there was one thing vaguely connecting all of them together, and after digging for hours - my mom being the one who informed me of how late it was – I was lost for words!

Immediately, I went to my terminal, retrieved Angus' and Eleora's account IDs, and invited them into a private voice chat as soon as I could!

An hour later

%BurningPotRoast Has Entered The Voice Chat

"Alright nerd. What's the deal about what you said in the dungeon?" Angus asked as soon as she got in the chat. Her voice was disfigured and disembodied. She must have turned on her voice filter.

"Hello." Eleora greeted. She was sitting and waiting on Angus with me for over 40 minutes! I didn't even have the decency to get mad at her however, because I got more important things to cover!

"As I said already, we were being manipulated in-game." I started off, then jumped right into the meat of the matter.

"Well I have a good guess as to who's doing it…" I pause a bit for dramatic effect, as I just couldn't help myself, then brought out the big reveal!

"It's The Church Of Axis."

Silence reigned supreme for a long while before Angus broke it.

"You have finally lost it haven't you?" She asked me in disdain. "Last I checked, isn't that the most powerful guild in the game, backed and headed by the President of Star Orb himself?

"Why would he do anything as crazy as cheating and leave evidence?" She makes a valid point here. The thing is though, he did.

And here is where my hours of work come to shine!

()

"… A few years ago, back when the VR system implemented was still new," I started, "some BMO fanatics who study the game for a living – literally – made a video which showed some feats of impossibility occur with the guild members. They got this rumour started that The Church Of Axis was cheating, as a joke of sorts, but as more circumstantial evidence appeared, the rumour snowballed into something that had news channels interested. After all, a scandal on the fastest growing company in history is bound to make for a good viewing.

"As for Star Orb, they were taking everything in stride, taking the look of the 'good guy' to the max. The president himself went to every interview, saw to every event, carried about as if they did nothing to be ashamed of. The story lost momentum within the week.

"A month later, one of the news channels that interviewed them met into a business snag and within the month, they had to disband. Soon after – no one really knows how long – there interview disappeared off of the face of the earth! The same happened to the other broadcasting companies that interviewed them a few months between each other, and within a year, all of their interviews disappeared off the net ways!

_*_

"So, what I'm say is," I said, ready to end this, "Is that they were indeed looked into, and they took care of them accordingly."

"… *sigh* with such a long **s winded speech, you must have some proof, right?" Angus asked sounding exhausted. Was I talking too much?

"Yup, here it is." I replied, sending them both a video and a document.

"That video is a compilation of each occurrence they didn't take down. The document has the links to each video I took a clip from." I informed them.

"… Well? Anything seem familiar?" I asked after a bit.

"… But then why would they leave those there?" Angus asked, still suspicious of the convenience.

"I thought of that too. Normally, one would get rid of any evidence no matter how little." I stated, agreeing with her. That is indeed the normal first approach… the normal one that is…

"But wouldn't that make them look more suspicious?" I countered argued, "If they start taking down posts that only caught them by chance, wouldn't that make them seem even more suspicious?"

"So instead, they just left them there and let people think what they want?" Angus asked, now starting to see the picture.

"Exactly! And with the VR technology being as new as it is, they can just say that its probably just a glitch of using certain items." I confirmed. I don't know who's at the helm at Star Orb, but whoever is, must be a very impossible power to overcome if he's thinking this far outside the box!

"… This is… good and all… but what does this mean for us?" Angus asked. I take a mental note of the fact that she hasn't said a single curse in the whole of this. She must be honestly intrigued…

or worried…

"It means that we'll have to steer clear of The Church Of Axis at all costs." I stated, already seeing how this can spell out badly for us.

"We should just spend the little time we have left gaining back our levels and Masteries for the upcoming Battle Mini. We've only got about 20 days in-game after all?"

"… What do you mean we?" She asked suddenly. "You shouldn't be so ready to help a stranger you know."

"… So you have someone else then?" I asked her, a bit surprised she's saying this now.

"*???* Huh?" She asked me in confusion.

"Didn't you know that the Battle Mini this year is a team battle?" I asked. It was on the notice board on the BMO website, so I thought she knew already, but I guess not.

"Besides, were you going to train to level 30 by yourself in just 20 days?" I asked in disbelief!

I couldn't tell exactly, but I had a feeling that he was blushing furiously on the other end of the call!

"S-shut up! Why would you work with me f*** face?!" and there goes her streak. Honestly, I don't think soap can help her mouth anymore!

"Didn't I already promise you? In the cave." I reminded her. "Don't worry, I'll be with you till you get your prize."

"… You are a genuine idiot, you know that?" She replied to my offer.

"Hey, you have anything better to work with?" I asked her in indignance.

"Nope. Looks like I'm stuck with a death s*** as my partner." She proclaimed in tired voice.

"*sigh* Good bye Angus." I said, ending the charade.

"Bye nerd." She replied, ready to go.

"And goodbye Eleo… Eleora?" t was then that I realised that she wasn't in the chat anymore!!!

"Hmm? Oh her? Yeah she left soon after you gave us the video." Angus filled me in all too late.

"What?!!! Why didn't you say anything sooner?!"

"… You're the chat host… you should have been the one person to know." She replied in a dead tone.

"Ah, true! Sorry my…"

%BurningPotRoast Has Left The Voice Chat

"… bad." Jeeze, some manners would have been nice!

I left the chat as well and took a deep sigh. Within days, three adventures worth of mysteries hand managed to find their way to my lap, and I was in no frame of mind for any of them!

To take my mind off of what my life has now become, I looked at the BMO website to see the line up for the Battle Orchestra… and had my mind blown!

'What?!!! Both The Church Of Axis and The Mystic Jungle guilds are in this year's line up?!!! That has never happened before!!!!'

I scrolled down more and found famous and non-famous participants alike, but nothing could have prepared me for the next name I saw!

"*gasp* Ray and … are in it too?!!!" I screamed out as headliners from the Lore Hunters showed in the line-up as well!!!

'Dang!!! This year's Battle Orchestra is going to be one for the ages.' I thought as euphoria washed over me, "And I have a front row seat to watch it all!!!'

This isn't going to be an ordinary Battle Orchestra! I can feel it!

I got ready to get back up and go down to eat some dinner, cause it's close to evening, but before I powered off my device, an idea occurred to me.

I sat back down, went to the newest Lore Hunter video - which I haven't seen yet – and went to the comment section. There I typed:

'I got this achievement called Lore Hunter. Anyone know what that's about?'

and hit Enter…

*This Comment Has Been Blocked*

A notification immediately showed up, telling me that my comment was blocked!!!

'What the…'

*Ping*

Another notification came in, only this time, it was a message to me directly!!!

'What in the world…?!' I thought to myself, and with trembling fingers, I opened the message

Because of that - and early readers could tell you – the development of the story was absolute crap! It wasn't until Webnovel asked be to come and write for them when I started to clean it up, and then the idea of making this a book about lore-finding in a game came to fruition [Loyal theorists will know where that idea spawned from ;P].

Shout out to @Volteair for giving me pointers. He was my first real constructive criticizer, and the reason why this book is now a bearable piece of crap and not an unbearable piece of crap, so do us both a favour and check his books out if your interests lie in the realm of unlimited reincarnation in a fantasy setting.

Thanks to all that rated, thanks to all that commented, thanks to all that clicked the heart, and thanks for sticking with me till this ending…

NO! The stories not over yet!!! This has at least 200 more chapters going for it, so don't go anywhere!!! I will say though, this is the end of the free chapters. For Arc 2 and up, they'll all be premium chapters (*゜ー゜*)so, I hope you'll all support and continue reading on their adventures. Till then though, I need to take a break to stockpile chapters and take care of procrastinated work, so until then yeah?

There's one more freebie after this though, so don't pack it away yet.

See you at Christmas! ( ̄y▽, ̄)╭> )
