I was combing my hair in front of the mirror when I realized I was actually humming. I stopped what I was doing and stared at myself.
I was happy. It was obvious on my face, the way I dressed and…well, I was humming. I could not explain what I was feeling, but I knew it was something beautiful. It was different from the happiness I felt when 'The Girl and The War' was nominated for huge film festivals in and out of my country or when I was offered to work with CJ E&M. It was kind of peaceful happiness which you would want to hold unto for the rest of your life.
It was the day for the initial meeting of the casts and production crew of DAY6's new web drama. I was nervous, not because I had to face new unfamiliar faces, but because I was actually meeting DAY6, especially Young Hyun. I did not know how I would act in front of him after our last phone call! Should I act as if he did not say anything?
Since I had to go with So Eun, I dropped by the CJ E&M office first. We rode the company's service car to JYPE. When we arrived, DAY6 was already there along with people I didn't know. Sitting across Sungjin was a familiar lady who played the lead role in 'Dream Knight' and 'Touching You'. She would be playing the lead role again for DAY6's web drama.
Everyone stood up and greeted us. I was actually surprised seeing the members of DAY6 being so formal with me though it was obvious they were restraining themselves from shouting, "Jjang!"
One of JYPE's staff approached us and guided us near the head of the table. I sat on the third seat on the left side across Choi Sam Soon, the writer of the web drama. We shook hands and she congratulated me for the success of Bullet.
Not long after, Trina Lee arrived with Kim Seung Ho. We shook hands and as usual, Trina was energetic.
"I watched your film and I was really amazed." She said making me somewhat embarrassed. She was so loud and excited.
I knew everyone was looking at us, so I turned to them and said, "Please pardon her, she's just excited to see me."
Everyone laughed and Trina looked at me with big eyes. "You're so mean."
I knew she didn't mean it because she was also laughing.
While waiting for JYP, the two of us talked about the film. She was really loud that I had to hush her several times.
"I noticed you used a similar shot in 'The Girl and the War' and 'Bullet'. That shot of the sky in the leading lady's perspective." She said.
I frowned at her while trying to remember the scene she was talking about.
"Don't tell me you already forgot your films?"
I leaned closer to her and whispered, "I only watch my films once, only on premiere nights."
She stared at me in disbelief. "You're hilarious."
I laughed and unconsciously turned my head towards the direction of DAY6. I caught Young Hyun staring at me. He smiled when our eyes met and my heart made a backflip. I smiled back and looked away fast before he could see my face turn red.
I had been avoiding looking at him since we arrived earlier, so I could remain calm. But one smile and I was already out of my wits. Shit.
"By the way, how do you know Martin Cerulean?"
As my mind was elsewhere, all I could answer to my seatmate was, "Huh?"
She frowned at me. "Why are you blushing?" Then her eyes widen again. "Is Martin someone special to you by any chance?"
I choke. The conversation stopped and I felt the whole room stared at me, but a pair of eyes was scarier than the rest. My gosh, Trina!
So Eun helped me with water. I drank half of the bottle and fired at Trina.
"No. He's only a friend I met in Venice when I went there." I really hated explaining my life to people. "Plus he's gay."
"Oh. He is?" She looked genuinely shocked.
I nodded.
Our conversation stopped when Park Jinyoung PD-nim finally arrived. He was with someone which he soon introduced as Han Min Ki, a Producing Director of JYP Pictures.
Once everyone was present, we each introduced ourselves before moving on to discussing the web drama. The title would be 'When You Love Someone'. Writer Choi quickly told us the plot and made a rundown of the scenes. We flipped through the script as she talked. After her, I told them I had several scenes I wanted to change which they gladly took into consideration.
After the meeting which took almost three hours, the foods were served. It was a lunchbox set filled with common Korean dishes. The conversation during the meal was lighter than during the serious meeting.
"You know what Director Wes told me about Director Steins?" Trina asked looking at DAY6. Everyone stared at her waiting for what she had to say. "This woman is scary on set." She said pointing at me.
I laughed. I was actually scared about what she would say, but it turned out I had nothing to worry about. The guys should actually be the one to worry.
"Really? How scary?" JYP asked really interested.
"She won't move to the next scene unless everything is perfect. Her words are the law on set."
I shook my head and corrected her. "That's exaggerated."
But Trina just went on. "There's also one story I've heard from someone I knew from her team on The Girl and the War. He said there was one time she got really mad that she tore the script she was holding and throw it at the feet of one of the artist."
"And I shouted, 'now, say what you want to say. The script is gone. You can make your own dialogue." I added to her ridiculous story.
There were a number of "Jinjja?" and "Really?" and some translations from English to Korean from the people in the room. They must be really shocked.
I looked at DAY6 and Jae was shaking his head and was mouthing, "I don't believe it". The rest of the members were looking at me as if they didn't believe the story as well.
"It's partly true," I said. "I didn't tear the script, Trina. I crumpled it and throw it at the fire we were using for that scene."
Everyone laughed probably thinking it was a joke.
I felt my phone vibrate, so I went out of the conference room to answer the call. It was Mara. She was asking me to revise the script for Pearl of the Orient.
"Why? Is there any problem with the script?"
"Uhm…You can just check the comments on the document." She was hesitating again. "By the way, how's your web drama going?"
"It's going smooth, but I really got pissed off now that you mentioned Pearl of the Orient."
She just laughed and ended the quick call saying she still had things to do.
I pocketed my phone and turned around to go back inside, but I almost got a heart attack because of Young Hyun. He was just suddenly standing there waiting for me.
"Hey! You scared the hell out of me!" I clutched my chest and felt the fast beating of my heart. "Come on, let's go back inside."
I was about to walk past him, but he took my hand and pulled me away from the door. I tried to scold him, but he wouldn't listen. Instead, he continued to tug me until we reached an empty storage room.
"Hey, what are you doing?" I tried to pinch him on his side, but he avoided it.
He was smiling like an idiot. "Why? I just wanted to see you."
I rolled my eyes. "You've seen me since like four hours ago."
To my surprise, he grabbed my waist and pulled me closer to him. I tried to distance myself, but he would not allow me. Was he still drunk?
"I'm saying this again in case you forget: Dangshineul chohahaeyo." (I like you.)
I didn't comment. I remained quiet, staring at his eyes. He really looked happy.
"I was still a bit sober when I told you that and I know you understand it."
My heart was already threatening to come out and I knew his heart was as well. I could feel with my hand the fast beat of his heart and he seemed unbothered.
"Uhh...What do you want me to say?" Was the most stupid question I asked in my entire life.
He laughed because of what I said.
Stupid. Really stupid.
"You're cute."
I glared at him. "Dogs are cute. I'm not cute." I untangled myself from him and he allowed me, thank goodness.
I walked away from him to the door. "Come on, they're probably looking for us already."
But I stopped from grabbing the doorknob when I felt something in my nose. When I touched it with my finger, I just realized it was blood.
"Oh, shit." I cursed and lifted my head.
"What happened?" Young Hyun was suddenly beside me. When he saw the blood, he immediately took out a handkerchief and wiped the blood.
"You should sit," he said, but I remained where I was.
"It's fine. I feel normal. I'll just wash it up." I took the handkerchief from him and went out of the storage room.
He followed and guided me to the comfort room. He even followed me inside the ladies' CR.
"You should just wait outside," I scolded him. "People might think you're a pervert."
But I was scolded back. "Just think about yourself."
I duck to the sink to wash up, but my hair kept falling that I could not properly start. But my white knight came to my rescue and held my hair up for me while I washed my face.
"What could you do without me?" I heard him muttered under his breath.
After I was able to clean myself up, we finally went out of the CR. I was actually grateful that no one came in during that time, but when we went out, Jae saw us. He was actually surprised.
"Ya, what in the world--"
"Snap out of it." I said to him. "I had a nosebleed. This guy just helped me." I showed him the white handkerchief which turned red because of blood.
"I didn't say anything." He answered grinning.
"Your expression tells a lot." Young Hyun countered.
"Let's go back." The third time I said that. I wouldn't be repeating myself again.
"You should throw that handkerchief first. There's the trash bin."
I didn't listen to Young Hyun and pocketed the handkerchief instead. "No. Someone might assume we killed a person if we just throw this there." Forgive the lame joke.
We returned to the conference room where everyone was waiting for us. Trina asked me what took me long and I told her half of what happened; that I had a sudden nosebleed. I didn't tell her that the guy I was only fantasizing before confessed to me and I, for goodness sake, could not say what I truly wanted to say and ended up being a mess that I was.
