Chapter 4

My eyes fluttered open as I grasped the view before me. I was laying on my stomach, facing the other side of the wall attached to my bed.

Skylar wasn't in her bed and I had no idea about the time. A sound of displeasure slipped my lips as I lazily got up from my bed, scratching the back of my head. Without even glancing in the mirror I could prove that I looked nothing less than the witches. Even they look more organized than me.

I interlaced my fingers stretching them over my head, a yawn escaping in the process as I proceeded towards the window to see the sky in its early stage of the morning, the birds chirruping; mainly the cuckoos and the familiar people strictly following their morning agenda.

I smiled in content, it was another beautiful morning, another new beginning of the day. I jogged back out of the room in search of my dear bestie and stopped as soon as I spotted her in the kitchen, sitting on one of the chairs of the dinner table.

She looked clean and fresh like she always did with a coffee mug in her hands. She was dressed up pretty good as if she was planning to be somewhere. That's when I ascertained that she was moving out today.

I took a chair to sit beside her. "When are you leaving?"

The thought itself scared me. I knew I would feel isolated after she left. The house would soon become a four-wall-jail and I would be left alone to suffer. I wasn't ready to let her go, but I couldn't stop her either. It was inevitable and I couldn't do anything about it other than to flood myself with loneliness.

Skylar was scrolling down on Instagram but lifted her gaze up to me when she heard me. "Oh, good morning, Heaven."

"Good morning," I greeted back.

"Jace is on his way," she said, looking back at her social media.

I grimly nodded. "What's the time?"

"Ten minutes to seven."

"Did you pack everything?"

"Yeah."

"Where are your luggages?"

"At the packhouse."

"Already?"

She turned to look at me, turning her phone off before pushing it in the small purse. "When you were asleep Jace's men came around to shift my things to my new room. Everything is sorted out except for one suitcase—you know my special things. I would like to take them back myself."

A smile etched on her face, she seemed really delighted about the idea of moving in with her mate and in such a situation I couldn't stop her.

I sighed. "Good for you. You finally found your home."

She grinned and slightly pushed on my shoulder. "Don't worry. You'll find your home someday."

I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, sure."

"Don't you think you should get ready. You have your last day as a vice principal ahe—"

She was cut off by the doorbell, but what startled me was her reaction. She literally jumped out of her seat, making a run for the door as if she would be eaten alive if she stayed one more second.

I followed her back to the living room.

And, Oh my….

A beautiful blonde-haired man stepped in his white t-shirt which fitted his broad shoulders and black skinny jeans. He had an amazing looking quiff hairstyle, but man….his beauty was definitely kill-worthy. His chiselled jaw and other sharp features didn't help either.

His ocean blue eyes glimmered as they landed on his mate who walked in his open arms. They both embraced themselves as if they had just won the death wishing war.

He gently pulled back, giving her an admiring look before pressing a soft loving kiss on her forehead. Skylar was truly in content and that's what I have always wanted for her.

Normally, I would've puked by now if they were some random couple, but right now I couldn't help but adore them, because they weren't just any random couple to me.

With no doubt, I could come onto a conclusion that the guy was none other but Jace. He looked at me with an acknowledging smile.

"You must be Heaven," he said in his deep manly voice which girls die to listen to.

I smiled back and shook his extended hand. "You must be the famous beta, Jace."

He chuckled as he wrapped his hand around Skylar's waist, pressing her to his side.

Well, it was sort of awkward considering the point that I was still in my plain black pyjamas and an oversized black t-shirt. But guess he didn't really mind it since his eyes were honouring himself with his mate. I swear he was on cloud nine. But keeping that fact aside, I think I got a plus sign for me to not feel self-conscious.

"Good that you have introduced each other without my help," she said. "But Jace I must tell you that if I was happy all this time it was all because of Heaven. You have no idea how well I feel because of her. I was dead set that she would resent me when I told her about you being my mate. She handled it more graciously. I need to admit that God has bestowed upon me a life-giving worthy best friend and I will forever be grateful to him for that."

Jace patiently listened to every letter she spoke as he turned to me with a grateful smile. "I, thank you, for keeping my mate safe when I wasn't around her. I will always be in debt to you since you are the reason my mate feels like living again. I don't know what I would've done to myself if you weren't there for her. I'm glad she has a bestie like you."

"Oh, you're flattering me." I waved my hand with a laugh.

"I talk to him about you almost every day, Heaven, " Skylar said to me, resting her head on her mate's arm.

"I'm glad." I chuckled. "I guess we both were there for each other when we needed each other. Deeming about a girl like her, anyone would throw their arm out to help her."

"You're right," Jace said grinning as he looked down at Skylar.

"Now, enough about this topic. Jace, I think you should go down and wait for me near the car. I'll be there in a minute," Skylar cooed, pressing her hands to his chest and pushing him off softly.

"Alright."

He easily complied, releasing his grip on her before reaching for her suitcase.

"It's nice meeting you, Jace," I quickly uttered before he could disappear out of the house.

He smiled warmly. "Likewise."

Skylar motioned me to follow her as soon as Jace was out of sight.

I frowned but followed her anyway. She moved towards our room, straight walking over to her—now empty wardrobe.

"What is it?" I asked impatiently.

She didn't reply nor reacted as she took out three things which seemed pretty unrelated to me.

A gold colour ring with a small hexagon red ruby on it, a perfume bottle and sunglasses.

I had no idea what she was up to with those things.

"What are these for?"

Skylar smirked at me before replying, "These are gifts from my side."

"I have a perfume—"

"These are not normal things."

I eyebrowed towards the things. "Then what are they?"

"These are things which will help you in future."

I opened my mouth to ask her back, but she raised her palm up to my face, ceasing me from saying anything.

"Let me continue. These things will help you to conceal yourself from your werewolf mate. I'm not sure if you have one, but it's best to take the precautions. These three things will help you find your mate before they can and it will make it easier for you to escape, although you can't hide from them forever, still, it won't hurt our pride if we try."

"I don't think I have one," I replied.

She shrugged her shoulders. "You can't say."

I laughed dryly. "I mean if I really had one wouldn't he have claimed me by now."

"Who knows? You might find him in future. Male werewolves find their mates between eighteen to thirty of their age gap, whereas, female werewolves find their mates between sixteen to twenty-six of their age gap—"

I interrupted, "But I'm not a werewolf."

"But your future boyfriend might be a werewolf."

"But there's no point to use that. I'm twenty-four anyway," I pointed out.

Skylar sighed. "See, you want to take it or not, it's up to you. I'm handing it over to you."

I eyeballed the items proffered to me. "Why did you buy these anyway?"

I observed Skylar as her lips held a nostalgic smile on her face. "Riya gave it to me when she found her mate, I didn't buy it."

I hummed, didn't really wanna push the topic. Skylar wasn't over it, she still missed her. I wasn't sure about Riya, but Skylar still had her contact number saved in her even though she didn't call her. It was as if she was waiting for her call.

Honestly, I haven't seen anyone in my entire life who was so greatly dedicated to the bond of friendship other than Skylar. She was one heck of a genuine person with genuine feelings.

"How to use them?"

Skylar's face brightened at my curiosity as she continued, "Okay, so the ring is to signal you if your mate is nearby or not. The red ruby will glow and its red hues will let you know if your mate is near or far before he could even figure out that you are his mate. But it won't be possible if your scent is exposed and that's where perfume enters. It's not the casual one we use, it's the wolfsbane. Spray it once only or else werewolves around you will feel their body burn, it will be taken as a threat towards them. We don't want that, do we?"

I shook my head in response.

"Good," she said. "Werewolves find their mates through their scents, first eye contact and touch. Now, for eye contact, you will have to wear these black sunglasses to avoid it. It's not necessary for you to wear all the time, but only when you sense them around. For touch, there is nothing you can do other than to maintain distance from them."

I nodded, processing the full lecture about the topic in my mind. Although, it really felt an unnecessary thing for me. I had a gut feeling that I didn't have a mate, but somewhere deep in me, I wanted to try it.

"Okay."

"But." She stopped.

I raised a brow. "But?"

"Werewolves will notice your hidden scent and will approach you to make eye contact, just to know if you're their mate or not."

"And I have to comply." She nodded.

"Which is why, try maintaining as much distance as you can, although in the end you will be caught."

"Then what's the point of working hard on this?" I questioned.

"To satisfy yourself that you at least tried, but it's up to you whether to use it or not."
