Chapter 22

"I'm leaving first then," Skylar let me know, her hand dripping her handbag on the shoulder. She gave me a good luck nod.

Yesterday after seeing him so dejected I decided to meet him. Ashley took a leave from her work today due to the lack of sleep and Skylar was leaving from work early too because her mate wasn't feeling good.

I was all alone in my cabin and thought of waiting for a while since Alpha Lucas was working too. The Gamma and the Delta were busy handling the pack, gifting me a lucky opportunity to talk it out about his wrongly assumpted situation.

Alpha Lucas was a busy man so trying to meet was almost an impossible job unless or until he decides to meet me. The workplace was the only place where I could find him without even looking around hard.

I stacked all the black files which I had been reading about the past projects so I could easily work on the upcoming ones. A knock on my door had me looking at the person who had stepped in with great cautiousness.

I raised a brow.

She bowed down self-consciously and glanced at me once. "Luna, someone's waiting for you at the reception hall."

I held my actions, looking puzzled at her. "Who is it?"

She kept her steady gaze on her shoes. "The person wants to meet you, they told you not to tell you?"

Who can it be?

Wait.

Lucas?

I let out a chuckle, it must be him. There was no one else who would ask permission to meet. All of a sudden I got excited and told the kind young lady to call him to my cabin.

Was he coming to sort out the misunderstanding?

Oh, of course. He felt so bad because of me.

I straightened my hair and my voice, quickly getting all my heavy files back into their original racks. Sorting out my messy desk, I sat back at my table, holding an excited and nervous expression and folded my hands on my chest while leaning back professionally.

I heard a knock which picked up my heart rate, the sound of the door clicking open interrupted the incoming oxygen to the nostrils.

I took a deep breath and stood up to greet him only to the upward curve of my smile to go down.

A young lady stepped in my cabin, looking all fancy yet professional with her grey dress reaching down to her knees. She gave me a bright polite smile while holding a small handbag hanging from her pale long fingers.

"Good afternoon, Luna Head." She smiled, something about her way of speaking made me feel disgusted.

"Alpha Ava," I firmly greeted her.

"Oho." She chuckled, extremely surprised. "You know me?"

I gestured towards one of the desk chairs. "Please have a seat."

She kept her costly handbag on my glass table while I took my seat too.

"How may I help you?"

She muttered, "You indeed are beautiful, no wonder why he's going all puppy over you."

"What?" I asked.

She laughed. "I won't take much time for us, I'll be direct with you."

I gave her an uninterested look, all my hopes were crushed her feet just like that and it annoyed me. "Please, go ahead."

"What you did to Lucas is unacceptable. Since I'm his very close friend I won't let you get away with this easily. He is blindly in love with you so he might forgive you, but you can't fool me." she smirked, that taunt expression on her face getting on my nerves too quickly. Faster than Shanghai Maglev.

"Runaway?" She snorted. "Who do you think you are to betray Alpha Lucas, huh? For an unnamed wolf, you are really very brave to leave him. And on top of that, you live on his land while running an affair with someone else."

I glared at her, barely containing the active volcano inside me. She was taunting me. I knew her all too well to judge her. New articles and my friends' description of her were a brilliant source to come to a conclusion on her. She might surely be an elegant beauty, but she carries a worse bitchy attitude than anyone else.

"I don't have an aff—" I closed my eyes and breathed in, calming my overly accelerated anger. Who was she even for me to correct? Why should I even explain to her? "Who told you about this?"

"I am correct, aren't I?

I asked her again, more like demanded. "How do you know about this?

She smiled. "'Lucas and I were supposed to meet at the same restaurant as you guys, but later on he called me and cancelled. I happened to hear everything from the rumours."

Supposed to meet? It didn't bother me though as much as she did. But the fact that she voiced his name without using his title, she made me hear it clean and clear. I only called him by his first name ones and now she so openly said it like I was nothing to him, which unfortunately irked me even more.

"Who are you to even call him by his first name? You aren't even his mate." I smirked this time. "But too sad, you can't get his affections as I do. I understand you feel bad for your 'friend' but don't worry. I don't intend to betray him, I do not have any such feelings towards the unnamed wolf you call. So you can calm down and let me handle this in my way."

The burning anger in her eyes was my victory and my very sweet smile was a goodbye. I got up from my chair, grabbing my white business coat and purse before walking out of my office as she growled like an actual animal she was. It was very rude of me but who cares. She was there to burn my sanity and I burned hers instead. It was only fair since she so bluntly came up to me and tried to warn me. As if I was a low-grade girl who has nothing else important to do other than betraying people. The same should even go to Alpha Lucas, without even discussing how could he jump to conclusions?

Well, I wouldn't let him escape me this time he would've to listen to me even if a war breaks on his pack.

As soon as I got off of the taxi and paid him, I straight walked up to his porch and practically banged the door. I didn't find him in the office and thought he might have come back home. I didn't stop by anywhere, not my home, restaurant or any place where I usually go. I was hungry but talking out with this doofus was the first thing on my plans.

A click sound had my attention when I saw Alpha Lucas standing there with widened eyes and... shirtless.

Whatever.

That's not what I came for.

I glared at him, controlling my eyes to wander anywhere other than his eyes. They were slightly red and lifeless, but they looked at him as if I had suddenly brought life into them. He smiled as if he had been expecting me.

Why was he being so over-dramatic like mothers?

If he was missing me so much, he could come by to talk it out?

Who was he even trying to fool?

"Are you free?" I asked.

He didn't respond, rather he kept his smile on and savoured his moment looking at me. I raised my brows at him and rolled my eyes before snapping my fingers on his face.

"Uh-uh, yeah?" He blinked.

I questioned again. "Are you free?"

"Yeah... I am. What happened?"

"Come out. We need to talk."
