Chapter 25

"I'm asking you for the last time," Lucas cautiously said.

I gazed at him annoyed. "It's fine. I won't be scared, just shift already."

He bit his lip still not sure that it wouldn't bring me a heart attack if he shifted. I was curious to know how these people turn so effortlessly to their wolves since I haven't seen one and Alpha Lucas here was a correct option to shoo away this curiosity.

He walked behind a tree whistle I made my way towards a rock suitable for rest, I could see him removing his shirt and throwing it to the side. He went for his pants when I cleared my throat and glanced away. Pink taking over my cheeks, it would be very indecent of me If I had stared at him unblinkingly.

Bones cracked, hiss slipped and the urge to look at him grew. I couldn't see everything but was able to make out the grey hair rising from his tan skin, his height visibly increased and his form grew broader before slamming his front on the ground with a thud.

I gulped, I was prepared but still felt like a coward thrown into a cage of the vicious tiger—the one in front of me was way bigger and scarier than a tiger. His honey orbs were soft, reminding that the Lucas I knew was still there. He approached carefully not to look so intimidating but from afar it would look as if the beast was preparing himself to lunge on his prey.

"Lucas," I whispered.

He looked at me, softly and harmlessly. His grey hairy tail wagging in comfort to me as he killed the remaining distance between us. Standing right near my feet.

I raised my hand, unclenching them. I rested on his warm head, moving it side to side, he bowed his head a bit, releasing a sound—which I presume was a purr, I guess?

I flinched when he leapt ahead pressing one paw on rock and the other on my lap. I awkwardly opened one eye to see his tongue out, panting like any other animal.

My hands shivered as I tickled him under his chin, he gave me more space to continue my friendly assault on him.

He purred as I drew back my hand resulting him to lean in and lick it.

It was strangely very weird, I never had a pet, I wasn't used to caressing them or playing with them. But here I was spending amusive time with the overgrown dog.

The softness and clean grey hair of his body were one the best, comforting feeling I had ever experienced, his fur so glittered under the late afternoon rays of the sun.

"I think you should shift back," I giggled.

The grey wolf immediately rushed back behind the same, going to his human form after throwing back his discarded shirt.

"God," he drawled, his smile showing a hint of embarrassment. "That was embarrassing, seriously."

I continued giggling. "I don't think so. You looked rather cute."

"Oh please." He exhaled sarcastically.

"I crave for some ramen, what do you wanna eat?" He said, moving his hand to surround my shoulder. I moved away before he could touch me.

The amble to the house was very like breathing like fresh air, I hadn't realised Lucas was a pro in making convenient talks too, I had smiled all the way to the house and the way he tells things made me want to listen to him more, especially, when he held such a beautiful manly voice.

I exhaled taking a glass from one the island cabinets and moving to the filter.

Lucas' face was twisted in a weird expression as if he had mistakenly watched something gore.

"Is something the matter?" I brought the glass to my lips.

"I smell something uncommon," he said before he shifted his expression to a complete shock as if he released who was behind the gore.

He looked at me, carrying the same look. I raised my brow.

"Heaven, you're bleeding."

The liquid in my throat stopped it's flow, vicious coughs followed by soon, quickly getting on my reflexes I hit my fist on my chest.

Lucas hit back gently, helping me.

"Are you alright?"

My throat felt dry as I cleared it through voicing out various sounds.

"I'm fine," I hoarsely muttered. "What did you mean by bleeding?"

Lucas looked at him awkwardly, licking his pink lips he said, "I guess, you are on your periods. I can smell your blood."

"What?" I whispered. Closing my eyes in complete distress, no wonder why my stomach was hurting before. I was too ignorant to take up my signal.

I quickly rushed upstairs, slamming the bathroom door shut behind me.

I was pretty much sure this month's period was going to be hell for me since I hadn't gotten it for two months. My periods were irregular but I never considered it serious, but apart from everything, coming to know about my thing from Lucas was not what I had expected.

He was a werewolf for God's sake.

Of course, his smelling sense was higher than any human.

My face paled.

Does that mean that he would know about my periods whenever I get it? Before me?

Oh, God!

I got out of the bathroom after getting done with my period thing. I indeed was on my periods.

I headed out of the room, my stomach hurting, feeling my lower half weak as I made my way to the kitchen.

Lucas wasn't home.

Thank God.

It would've been awkward if he were to stay. I guess he knew better than to twist the situation tenser.

The silence in the house was boring. The last two years I had spent with Skylar and I was habituated to her bot-stop chatting atmosphere, so it was pretty hard to lose myself with the pin-drop silent house.

I decided to take a walk around the pack and made sure I had locked the house. My feet took to the familiar garden, a homely place to seek comfort and peace.

I walked past the main gates whistle noticing the people happily spending time with their family and friends. My eyes brightened when I saw Skylar and Ashley on the fresh green grass with some random girl who was new to me.

I never saw her in the pack before.

"Hey!" I chirped as I got closer to them.

Skylar warmly smiled at me as I sat beside her. "Oh hey, all settled now?"

"Was that even needed to be asked," Ashley smirked.

I glared at her, turning my face in an act to pretend not to see her.

"Luna." The unknown girl got up and bowed. "It's nice to meet you."

I unsurely chuckled. "Please sit down, you don't have to stand up."

The girl sat down back again and smiled kindly. "I'm Maya, the Female Gamma of the pack."

"Oh really?" I was surprised. "I never knew Gamma Mason had a mate."

"Actually, she was out of the station at her old pack for a month now," Skylar unfolded the information.

"My mother died. I had to go back and take care of my younger sister and father," Maya said, a loose smile on her face.

"I'm sorry."

Maya smiled. "No, please don't be. I never liked her anyway."

"Huh?"

"My mother, I don't like her."

"Oh," I muttered. "But why?"

Maya licked her lips.

"She... was a slut in my old pack, always sleeping with other males no one really liked her," She ceased for a moment. "Even after finding a mate she never changed and father was too blink in love he never had her true colours."

Her blue eyes caught mine, the way she smiled didn't seem like she was alright, she was hurting.

"Your father must be hurting a lot," Skylar spoke in a low gentle tone.

Ashley replied instead, "He must be dying inside."

"Well, his death is near too," Maya finished.

"What's the reason for her death?" I asked.

"She was suffering from brain cancer."

"That's so bad," Skylar winced.

Maya looked down at her hands wrapped around her folded knees. Even though she didn't like her mother, I could tell she didn't want her family to suffer like that. She loved her father and the thought of losing him scared her. She has a sister too. My heart clenched badly when my brain worked itself on her family story.

Because her story hurt me too. Way worse when I imagined mine.
