Goodbye, My Friend

Kingdom of the Plains, OverWorld

Dawn

The Sun was beginning to rise on the horizon. The skies began shifting from black to blue. Merlin and Ceres had woken up, still laying on the ground just outside of the Kingdom. Both of them were confused as to what had happened. They don't remember much of what went on the night before.

Zombies and Skeletons were fleeing from the incoming Sun, quickly making their way for wherever it was dark. It was quiet as far as they knew. Merlin got back up onto his feet and turned around to look back at the Kingdom.

The wall had been severely damaged. It would need repairs soon. The front gates were still closed. To his left, on the wall was a giant, gaping hole. By the looks of it, someone must've blown that part of the wall up to get inside.

"Merlin?" Ceres said, "what happened? Why is my head spinning?"

Merlin stood in silence as he drowned out every bit of noise around him. He knew one thing was for certain, whomever did this must be within the walls of the Kingdom.

"I'm not sure," Merlin responded. "But we need to find out what happened and why."

Merlin walked over to Ceres and helped him get back up onto his feet. Sure, Merlin's head was spinning out of control too, but that didn't deter him from seeking answers he and Ceres both needed. Once Ceres was back up on his feet, they both began walking back towards the Kingdom. Because the gates were closed, they had to go through the hole in the wall to get inside.

As they made their way back into the Kingdom, bound for the Castle, Daniel and Elena were still talking to Victoria, Petra, Frederick and Scarlet.

"Why did you do this to Petra and I, Scarlet?" Daniel asked. "After all we did for you, that's how you repay your kindness to us?"

Victoria was still holding her arm tightly. She wasn't going to let Scarlet go anytime soon. Scarlet's fate was sealed. No longer will she rule over a Kingdom that wasn't hers to begin with. No longer will she be a threat to OverWorld's safety. But she wasn't the last threat the OverWorld will face. In time, there'll be more bad guys to stop. EnderBrine, NetherBrine, and Scarlet were only the beginning.

"I was just doing what I was told to do," Scarlet said, "he knew I was hungry for power. Leadership in this case."

"Do you happen to know what his name is? It can't be just the Mysterious One, right?" Daniel questioned.

Scarlet shook her head. Even though she met the Mysterious One before, he never once told her his true and real name. Even to her that was a mystery. Could anyone solve the mystery? Does someone know his name? Where he lives? Those kinds of questions.

"No," Scarlet answered, "I do not."

"What did he all tell you? What was the entire plan from the beginning?" Daniel asked.

"Look," Scarlet said, "all I was supposed to do was overthrow this very Kingdom and become Queen. The plan was going smoothly until you all came back. That's one-hundred percent of the plan. I'm honestly telling the truth."

Victoria nodded her head slightly at Daniel. He looked over at her. He too nodded his head in response.

"It's time," Victoria said, "to leave. Daniel? Petra? Say your goodbyes. I can wait for a moment while you two do so."

Daniel looked at Petra. Petra looked at Daniel. They stared into each other's eyes, not knowing what to say or talk about. Daniel still remembered Petra's death; that thought never leaving his head ever again.

Petra and Daniel approached each other. Petra held out her arms out straight. On her face was a faint, somber smile. She was ready to give Daniel one final hug goodbye before she left. It wasn't something either of them wanted to do. They couldn't go their separate ways without saying goodbye, right?

Daniel leaned in to give Petra a strong hug. Hugging her, for some reason, comforted him. Just having her around made him feel happy. Of course, it was temporary. Moving on will be difficult without her around.

Frederick, Elena, Scarlet and Victoria all stood in silence. They wanted to witness the goodbye in silence. They were all letting Daniel and Petra have a moment.

"I'm so sorry," Daniel mentioned, "for everything. Your death was my fault. Now I'm going to lead an entire Kingdom by myself?"

Petra smiled, rubbing her hands on Daniel's arms up and down gently. Her time came too soon. Unexpected it was indeed. Although, none of this would have happened if he didn't take so long in the NetherWorld. She would still be alive if it weren't for him or that Witch.

"Don't be sorry Daniel," Petra said, "everything will be okay. I promise. I'm being taken good care of. I assure you."

"That's good to hear," Daniel said as he tilted his head forward to look at the floor. He was moping, feeling guilty about his recent actions. "I really am going to miss you. You do know that right?"

Petra nodded her head. After she did that, she wrapped her arms around Daniel, giving him one final goodbye hug. After a moment of hugging, Daniel and Petra took a step away from each other.

Elena walked over to Daniel. She set her hand down on his back and gently began massaging it. Her actions calmed Daniel down. He was growing more sad by the second.

"Goodbye, my friends," Petra said as she glanced over at Victoria and Scarlet. One last smile appeared on her face just before she vanished. Just as Daniel blinked once, she disappeared. The only thing left behind was small dust particles. That was it.

Now Petra was gone once more. There's so much Daniel wanted to tell Petra. Maybe this isn't forever? Maybe it's a dream right? Who knows.

Victoria and Scarlet also vanished into thin air. They too left floating dust particles behind. The only mystical blockhead who stayed behind was Frederick. Like Frederick said a few minutes ago, he's going to stay here and help find this mysterious one.

"Well now what?" Daniel questioned, "just like that, I go back to being King? How does anyone expect me to forget all of this? My mind has been forced to hang onto these memories forever now….unless I could somehow forget about everything?"

"Forgetting is harder than it sounds," Frederick said, "but if I give you this forgetting potion, you will never remember the memories that were taken. Is that understood?"

"Not even Petra? Or Elena for that matter? Will I forget who they are? Will I be able to lead my Kingdom?" Daniel questioned.

"I will only take away the sad and upsetting memories. Not the good ones...I promise," Frederick answered honestly. "Are you ready?"

Without hesitating to ask, Daniel responded with a simple yes. There were no questions asked.

"As long as everyone will remain safe, I'll be okay," Daniel said.

"Once this is done, you will never remember the negative things. Losing Max, Petra. Oh and Carlily. All of those will be wiped clean from your memory," Frederick said.

"Do it," Daniel said. "I'm ready."
