First Test

The trip to the town didn't take too long. I learnt a lot about the girls on the journey there. I learned that they were adventurers and this was their first ever misson. I also learned that Laura is a knight class adventurer and Sandra was a mage class. We also ran into a few monsters whom I happily consumed and have taken their skills.

Quest complete:

Escorted girls to destination safely (Well sort of).

Reward: Allies lvl 2, Voice of the old ones lvl 1

Additional skills and traits acquired:

Devourer lvl 2: The trait to eat anything lethal or non-lethal to restore health.

Spike javelin lvl 3: The ability to shoot multiple spikes from one's self at a target.

Navigator lvl 3: The trait to navigate through the most difficult path.

Experience and skills are shared through host to servants.

With these skills, we made it to the town in no time.

"Welcome to Friffolk." Laura said stretching her legs. The wounds that she had had now fully healed leaving no evidence that they were there. The only evidence of the incident that happened in the forest was a scar from where Sandra was killed.

"Don't worry master I don't mind." Sandra whispered to me as if reading my thoughts. As we drew closer to the entrance of the town, I saw that it was heavily fortified.

"Don't worry master I'll do the talking." Laura whispered to me.

"Why are you whispering?" I asked her curiously.

"Nobody has seen something like you before. If they were to realize that you were more than a alread scary looking being they might send adventurers like us after you." She replied in a hasty whisper. We drew closer now.

Why is that any of my concern?" I followed.

"Because there are a lot of adventurers here and I doubt that even with your strength master, we wouldn't be able to take them all on." She replied ending the conversation.

"HALT! Who goes there!" A random guard shouted. Using shadow walker, I portal into Sandra's shadow and lingered in there. I didn't pay attention to the boring melodramatic story Laura and Sandra came up with as they tried to explain why there appearances suddenly changed and why they've been gone for so long.

"By the way we wanted to register our new familiar." Sandra said in a gleeful voice.

New familiar? I thought.

"Ahh yes head down the hall to the left. The registration desk is to the right. They'll walk you through everything you need to know."

"Thank you so much Edward." Laura says bidding Edward goodbye. After an uncomfortably long pause, I broke the silence.

"What's a familiar?" I asked Sandra from inside her shadow.

"It is a contracted beast that is bound to you. They share your lifeforce, mana and basically everything else. Always wanted one." Sandra answered skipping down the hallway.

Maybe I'm a familiar I thought curiously. It would make the most sense.

Negative

Those words popped up so fast I could have sworn the game menu got offended. But that's not possible. I think...

I skipped out on listening to the registration. I watched Laura and Sandra go back and forth between the clerk at the table while signing papers and doing other boring human stuff. Human stuff ha I thought floating around in Sandra's shadow, surprised by how much space there was. I most have gotten carried away because when I came to I was in an arena filled with training dummies and wooden weapons. I peeked up from Sandra's shadow to see a really really buff guy covered in armor staring down Laura with a disapproving grunt.

"I don't care what you say, you're too low of a rank to be in this arena." He said crossing his arms.

"Sébastien please. We need to meet the administrator so he can give us our familiar registration card." Laura said stepping up to him. The man, no Sébastien, stepped back a little shocked that Laura had a bigger bark than him.

"A familiar. Don't make me laugh," He said collecting himself, "You girl's classes are not suitable for a strong enough familiar to even step into this part of the arena. Why don't you go play princess like the other girls your age."

It was at this point where Laura, with movement so quick even my eyes had a hard time keeping up, unsheathe her sword and brought it only centimeters away from Sébastien's neck.

"How dare you disrespect my mas- I mean my familiar like that." She said rage radiating off her.

"Laura calm down. We can't blow our cover just yet." I whispered to her not taking any chances. Even though it's clear that people of this world that are not under my influence can't understand me, I doubt that means they can't hear me.

"Fine." She grunts back at me.

"If your familiar is so strong then why don't we have a little duel. Familiar on familiar. Winner gets whatever they want from the winner." Sébastien says checking Laura and Sandra out.

"Fine I accept," Laura replied slowly lowering her sword, "But don't try anything funny."

"Wouldn't dare." Sébastien grinned but something told me otherwise.

Since the administrators were also interested in this duel so the match was permitted as the testing. Apparently it was rare for a knight and a mage to get a familiar in this world. No matter, Laura and Sandra spent a good hour lecturing me on the rules as I made my way to the arenal battleground.

"And absolutely no killing." Sandra says finishing off the lecture I ignored.

"Got it." I said bored out of my mind as I entered the circle. It was a pretty big one, about the size of a football field. It was also covered in barriers to protect the spectators and the crowd viewing the duel. Infront of me was a beast I've only seen in books and legends. A dragon. Sébastien's familiar is a fucking dragon. Of course it is.

"Begin." The administrator yells waving the fight to start. Surprised by the sudden start, I barely had time to react as the dragon lunged at me with speeds that were unrecognizablely fast.

Unkillable has been triggered. Physical change: Speed buff and attack buff.

Using the sudden speed boost I had, I dodged to the left hard. I rolled the side having no time to regather myself as the dragon unleashed a fury of attacks. This isn't working I thought to the menu hoping it would come up with something. My hopes were soon crushed when I realized it wasn't going to pop up. Move my instincts screamed forcing me to drop flat to the ground. Not even a second later a ball of hot flames flow over my head. I need to do something. Anything. I must have a skill that I can use.

Spike javelins lvl 3 has been activated.

I looked down to see spikes starting to form my void like body. Wasting no time I aimed it at the dragon shooting it on its right side. The spike however, bounced harmlessly off the side of the scaly beast. Come on think I thought what could possibly be a dragons weakness. Of course, it's its belly.

Dodging and rolling around made the crowd start to root for the dragon. Every time dragon would do something the crowd would start to cheer louder. This cause it to get cocky. Almost there I thought as I weaved myself into a better position to aim for the belly area.

"Finish this quickly." Sébastien yells at the dragon snapping it back to reality. It raises to its hind legs as if charging for one final attack. But in doing so, it left its belly wide open.

"Bulleye." I mumbled as I shoot the spike into its belly. Whatever attack it was about to do exploded adding to the impact of my attack. I watch as the mighty dragon fell to the ground, deeply wounded and unable to continue dueling.

"Stop," the administrator yells waving his hands for it the duel to stop, "Winners are Laura and Sandra. They have passed there test and now are permitted to bring their familiars with them on quest. Dealings may commence now."

"Fork over 150 gold coins." Laura demanded.

"Isn't that too much?" Sandra asked slightly concerned.

"Well he did duel fairly but he's also got rich parents so he'll get it back in no time. Plus we are almost broke and we need a place to stay tonight." Laura said rolling her eyes. Taking the money we leave the arena with our new familiar registration cards.
