Nothing of Interest

With the rest of the day off Azemo decided to go see if he could find anything out of the ordinary on the ground. Just because he was aiming to make it to the sky city did not mean there was nothing important down on the surface.

The city itself was not much of a city, everything seemed mobile and the only reason it was at its current location was because of the governor's house. The roads were made by the countless feet that trudged along them everyday and the vendor's stations were mapped out by the city.

Azemo asked the tigers to look around the city but they refused. They hated the sand because they could never quite be rid of all of it.

Even without them Azemo continued exploring, but it was like when one explores a video game room that was obviously not supposed to be explored. After coming up empty Azemo decided to talk to some people.

Every person he tried to talk to did not notice him until he introduced himself. Every person seemed friendly enough when they started talking but none of them came even close to knowing all the stuff Indigo had told Azemo about. In fact they seemed to only be able to talk about their trade or their lodgings.

Whenever Azemo changed the subject they had little to say, but they all seemed content with their standings in life. No one was upset with the governor or the law. Azemo had expected to hear a lot of dissent among the common people but the lack of it made him think that either the law was really strict or the people were truly content.

"Oh great Soul Essence please answer my question."

"I am listening." It seemed that the Soul Essence of Behirite could not fight against worship and flattery.

"Did you make it so that all the people in this world only have a few facets as if they are NPCs?"

"I do not know the term npc, but every person in this world has the same range of complexities as anyone in the real world."

"Thank you for your wisdom."

It made no sense to Azemo, how could these people be fully faceted when they only spoke of one thing. After thinking too much Azemo decided to go back to the Barracks and rest up. After all Reginald seemed to be quite a handful.

As Azemo entered the Barracks they were a lot fuller than the day before. Nearly half of the beds were occupied and Azemo could not wrap his head around why it was so. The previous day no one had even walked in until he was trying to sleep. 'Maybe yesterday was a long day of work or they were out relaxing.'

Azemo did not feel like prying into more people's life stories that day. He sat down on the bed but before he could tuck himself in a voice interrupted him.

"Hi I'm Casen, let's talk for a bit." Casen's voice was energetic and Azemo was powerless to resist it.

"Thanks for introducing yourself, my name is Azemo." 'Oh no I am starting to sound like them.' After a day of hearing the same thing after his introduction Azemo was starting to talk the same way as the people of Crnst.

Casen frowned for a split second before a big smile bloomed across his face. "I couldn't help but notice that you have a badge. Does that mean you are going to work for the governor?"

"Oh yeah I am the governor's walker, I think that was the title, I just got hired today."

" Ah, The royal walker. Lucky you I heard that it pays quite well to have that position. It must have been very difficult to attain."

"Actually I was the only person who wanted the job. I mean Reginald is a little scary but I was sure more people would have at least tried out."

"That is weird, just last week I heard there were three people trying to get the job after the last royal walker disappeared. And the week before that there was a whole crowd of people trying out for the position. I wonder why they need so many royal walkers. The governor says that most of them earn enough money to make it to the sky city but I think something more sinister is going on."

Casen's gaze darkened for a second before he cheerfully said "Good Night" and left Azemo to his thoughts.

'The job must be a lot more dangerous than I first expected. I wonder if Reginald is the danger or if it is something else. Anyways I had best try and copy the mannerisms of the people here, I don't want to stick out after all.'

With his mind still racing Azemo turned over and fell into a deep sleep. He fell a little too deep into sleep and in the morning Casen had to shake him awake so that he wasn't late.

Luckily for Azemo no one seemed to notice and he was able to make it in time for a filling breakfast outside the Barracks. After the meal, where he was able to get extras for Bella and Ima, Azemo finally went to do his job.

On the way to the mansion Azemo saw a group of hunters about to head out into the desert. Indigo had already told him about this job but what had caught his eye were the weapons the hunters carried.

They all had staffs but when they did something a holographic blade appeared on the tip. The blades looked very simple yet somehow they still had a futuristic feel with their bright neon colors. The only weapon Azemo could compare them to was his gauntlets but his gauntlets were not as defined as these blades. The blades were more sharp and stylistic while his gauntlets had more flow and less structure.

Azemo considered becoming a hunter, just to get his hands on one of those weapons, but he decided against it, after all hunters barely made any money and he wanted to get to the floating city as quickly as possible.

Azemo turned away before the weapons could entice him any longer and made his way back to the barn that held Reginald.

The tall woman was there waiting alongside three other unfamiliar people and a massive leash like contraption.

"These are your teammates. Get acquainted, then get to work. Reginald needs his exercise." After giving Azemo a cold smile the tall woman left, giving the rest of the group time to introduce themselves to Azemo.

"I am Glen, one of your guards, here to make sure nothing out in the desert attacks us. But don't worry Reginald usually scares away most anything."

"I am tired of introducing myself to all of the Reginald food." Groaned the shortest one of the three.

"Shut the hell up. You were lucky you escaped death last time. I am Slicker and that depressed one is Jin. He is like that because his job is to pick up Reginald's waste."

Azemo wanted to talk about what Jin meant when he said Reginald food but Slicker gave him no time telling him to go put on the leash.

It was time for Azemo's first challenge, and if he thought it would be easy just because Reginald was excited for his walk, he was bound to be disappointed.
