15. Tears and Anger

I held my ground for a moment, taking in his words. Once it registered to me, my jaws went hard and my muscles tensed. With one last look at Damian, I left the room, leaving only the echoes of my heavy footsteps inside. The door slammed shut behind and I saw Merrylia looking at me with cool eyes. Her gaze dug dig into my soul but yet her lips remained shut. The shirt I was wearing felt tighter and I tugged on its collar.

"He must have had some backups with him. I was lucky I had only had to face them." The lie slipped from my lips like poisoned water. My voice sounded odd and stiff yet my eyes didn't falter as I returned her gaze.

"Luck doesn't have anything to do with what that incompetent minion was told to do. We may not know the reason why they did not attack you all at once but we can not say the same the next time." She stood up from her chair and stepped towards me. She pulled the gun from my grip and pushed it to my chest.
