Chapter 29

We look like demons, dark shadows running down the unsuspecting train like hounds on the scent of blood.

Jules is pushing this horse to full capacity, and I'm hanging on for dear life, my stomach is in my throat. I have never pressed a horse like this, or possibly these breeds have unnatural power and speed.

Either way.

I am petrified.

The smoke from the train makes it hard to see, and I wildly wonder how Jules is able to steer the stallion, dodging obstacles that would at this speed kill us both. He is inching the horse closer to the side of the train, the sounds of the engine and gears are earsplitting. I feel his arm wrap around my waist, holding me tight as nears even closer.

My heart is pounding as I see one of Jules's men leaning out, in between the carts with his arm extended. Oh shit. Jules wants to me grab onto his hand to pull me on.

This is nuts!

The wind hits my face as I stare in horror as Jules expertly nears closer, one mess up, and we both are dead.
