Chapter 9 - Lessons

"Oh my gosh I am so bored!" Whitney said with a yawn. "Hey Wadose, where is Sharaina? Doesn't she have a training exercise for me?" she lazily asked.

She sat in the company of Wadose under the cool shade of a tree. On the table was a kettle, two cups of tea and a plate of biscuits. Standing guard was only one soldier who had his back turned. Two maids stood away, patiently waiting for orders.

"You will refer to her as Queen Sharaina." Wadose sternly answered her and she rolled her eyes. "She has a meeting with the Enchanted Seven and the Council of Elders right now." Wadose told her.

Whitney tilted her head. "Who are the Enchanted Seven?"

"They are seven commanders that lead the darkas gods in each continent. They make sure that there is a balance of good and bad energy."

"As you know, darkas gods are neither on Jehovah's side nor Satan's side. Therefore, unlike Jehovah and his angels work with good energy while Satan and his demons depend on bad energy, darkas gods rely on both energies combined thus forming another energy known as gamarax.

"Dark Star is made from gamarax and that includes darkas gods. Only a balanced level of good and bad energy can form gamarax. Therefore, it is the duty of a warrior darkas god to balance these levels of energy to keep Dark Star stable and in existence."

"The Enchanted Seven under Queen Sharaina, are in charge of keeping the energies balanced. Queen Sharaina runs things in Dark Star with the help of the Council of Elders. The Council of Elders are elderly looking darkas gods that have no combat abilities but have the special ability to see into the past, present and future. They cannot feed on vampires for if they do, they lose their powers." Wadose ended his lengthy explanation and sipped on his tea.

Whitney was amazed with Wadose just said. She hadn't realized to what extent Dark Star had established itself as a society.

"From what you are saying Wadose, I can see that there are different types of darkas gods." Whitney added in awe.

"Yes there are different types. We have the First Class darkas gods who are known as the Warriors." Wadose answered. He suddenly pointed at Whitney. "You belong to that class. We have the second class that consists of the Gamarax Manipulators. Their abilities are to build up and manipulate gamarax. Their duty is to keep Dark Star stable and also perform medical functions.

"The third class that consists of the Seers. Lastly, we have the fourth class. These are no different from human beings. They are immortal and can stay young without feeding on vampires. This is because they don't burn up gamarax fighting, manipulating and predicting the future." Wadose explained.

Whitney held her chin. "How can you tell the difference from each of the four types?" she asked.

"Well, warriors have dragon shaped birthmarks on any part of their bodies. Gamarax manipulators have V shaped birthmarks that are also on any part of their bodies. Seers possess purple star shaped birthmarks on their foreheads. The fourth class, however, are born without any mark." Wadose answered.

Whitney looked down at her dragon mark. It wasn't a tattoo like she thought it was but a special birthmark.

"Whitney, when a child is born with a dragon mark, they are sent to the Great Academy at the age of one hundred where they are taught how to master their powers. It is in their hundredth year when their powers are activated. On rare occasions, their powers are activated earlier. Like it was in the case of her highness, Queen Sharaina. Her powers awakened when she was eighty. This was when she fought off a kremis that attacked her village, Gemhules."

"Oh, no wonder she made me fight a kremis." Whitney remarked with crossed arms.

"As for the gamarax manipulators, their powers activate earlier at ninety years. They, too, are sent to the Great Academy." Wadose continued with his unplanned lecture. "Seers on the other hand have their own special dormitories where they gather to nurture and master their powers. It takes longer for a Seer's powers to be activated. They are activated at seven hundred years. But some get their powers much earlier for various reasons." Wadose explained.

"But what about the fourth class, what is their relevance?" Whitney asked again.

"They are to reproduce and build up Dark Star. They also fill in positions such as secretaries, chefs, carpenters, builders, lawyers, messengers and many other roles. So you see Whitney, they are also important." Wadose quickly answered to which Whitney grinned.

"Wadose, from your descriptions and explanations, I can see that you aren't a darkas god. What are you?" Whitney narrowed her eyes suspiciously at him.

"Never mind that. You will know when the time comes." Wadose admonished with reluctance.

Whitney got up and stretched herself. "Well I'm leaving now." she said.

"And where do you think you are going?" Wadose sternly asked her.

"I am going to take a walk. Gosh, I have been cooked up in this castle for weeks."

Whitney ran outside and lunged into the air before Wadose could stop her. Wadose ran after her yelling but she ignored him. She really wanted to see the fourth class darkas gods—the ones that are like humans.

She was curious to see how they lived and in what ways they resembled humans.
