Chapter 5: The Party

Alex's POV

Continued...

“Ready to party?”

“Yeah. Maybe, I don’t know.”

Bree sounded reluctant, she’s not used to this or maybe just the drinking and having fun around many people. Well, I'm going to change that.

“Let’s drink first until we’re tipsy enough to dance till we drop!” I shouted over the loud music.

Across the hall near the kitchen way I saw Selena, in her silver dress, chatting with some girls. I pulled Bree and walked towards them.

“Hey! Hi!”

Selena looked at us, excused herself from her friends then turned her attention away from the group towards us.

“Oh! Alex, you’re here. And Breana too, though you missed the live show. You’ve reconnected, I see. How’s it going?”

“Hello too, Selena.” Bree greeted.

“Well, since the three of us are here and the two of you are the ones I only know back then, why don’t we celebrate this by dancing together?” I suggested.

“Cool, come on!” It’s good that Selena eagerly complied. At least we have someone beside ourselves that Bree is comfortable with also. I won’t just go around with people and leave her out of place. But I cannot deny I also suggested dancing because I’m looking for someone in the crowd.

We made our way to the sea of people dancing to the beat and joined them. It feels great just dancing without a care in the world with friends. I can’t remember the last time I did this and it feels damn great letting loose sometimes. We are matching our steps to the beat, jumping and shouting. I can see both Bree and Sel enjoying as well. Some of Selena’s friends joined in as well. Bree seemed not to mind.

“Woohoo! This is fun!” Bree shouted.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. I thought as I grinned at her.

After a while, we got tired and sat at the nearest couch. It was then that I saw a glimpse of her mid-length blonde hair. She is wearing a black off-shoulder dress that hug her around the waist and with matching heels. She looked magnificently gorgeous as she walks towards the door that leads on the back. I grabbed drinks for my two friends and handed it to them.

“Hey guys, I’ll just go and get fresh air. It’s hot here. I’ll be back.”

“Oh, you’re just going to make out with someone somewhere. I’m tired. I’ll recharge.” Sel teased.

“Yeah sis, you go do your thing. Is it the guy eyeing you while we’re dancing? Or the girl who keeps bumping or grinding her ass at you? Hahaha. We’ll just get drunk and get back to dancing once we’re good to go again.” Tiringly, Bree smiled. She must be really drunk.

I laughed. “Stop it both of you. I’ll just go talk to someone. Besides, I still need to take your sorry ass home Bree. Behave.”

She grunted in response.

I made my way towards outside. I saw her sitting on a bench. I slowly made my ways and sat beside her, still leaving some space between us.

“Why is a gorgeous lady like you alone in a beautifull night like this?” I made my presence known. She turned her head to me.

“Oh! It’s the greasy Alex. Well, look at you. You look…”

“Like your next girlfriend?”

She laughed. “You’re overly confident you know.”

“Of course, why should I be ashamed of this God-given goddess level beauty?” I smirked at her.

She laughed harder. “Seriously, you’re something. But yes, I must admit you’re beautiful.”

“Why thank you. So back to my question, why are yo outside when the party is happening inside?”

I noticed she is not drinking. I offered my cup.

“I don’t drink, I just want to have fun like this with my friends sometimes. I just got so tangled up with too much studies and extracurricular activities most of the time that I need a breather and the next few weeks will be busy soon. It’s just too noisy inside so I had to step out for a minute.”

“Oh, good ‘cause now I have you for myself.”

Her face wrinkled in confusion. I realized I sounded like a pervert. I immediately do damage control.

“No, no, not like that.” I clarified.

“Not like what?” She said smirking.

“Uhh…” I stammered. I feel my face heating up.

Is she flirting?

It’s the first time I feel flustered like this. It’s always the other way around.

Then she finally burst into series of laughter. “Relax, Alex. I’m kidding. Of course, I know you doesn’t meant how it sounded like.”

“Oh Mitchelle, you’re starting to act like me now huh? And to use it against me now.”

“You’re fun Alex. I like you.”

“Likewise, Mitchelle.”

“You know you can call me Sunny. I think we already made it past acquaintances and my nickname is not really exclusive for my friends.” I heard her suggest.

“Then I’d prefer your full name but if you insist… well, Sunny is just fitting for you as well. For being so bright, you light up my day.”

The night was getting deeper and I just noticed that she might be cold. I took off my jacket and hand it to her.

“Wear it, you’re cold.” I offered.

“No, I’m not.”

“Yes, you are. You’re having goosebumps.”

“No, I’m fine. Besides, I don’t want you to feel cold.”

When she made no move to take the jacket I scoot closer to her and draped it around her shoulders. It’s good she did not make an attempt of shrugging it off.

“By the way, I saw you with Breana in school. You know each other before? Or is she your something like first friend to know in school?” Mitchelle asked.

“Are you jealous?”

“Why would I be? Just asking.”

“Yeah, you shouldn’t be jelly. You’re my girl crush, she is my friend. Truth is we go way back since we were in preschool.”

She chuckled. “Oh, it’s good that at least you have other people helping you to adjust in school. If it’s just me helping you maybe I’ll go crazy ‘cause you can be crazy at times.”

“Crazy for you.”

“Yah! You’re weird.” She giggled and punched me lightly in the arm.

“I’m crazy and now I’m weird? You hurt my feelings.” I made a gesture of holding my chest like my heart hurts which made her laugh again. I could act crazy and weird if I could hear those laugh and see those smiles in return. Her laugh do something to me. It’s actually crazy.

“Mitch. Oh, you’re here.”

We were interrupted by a male voice from the doorway.

“I was looking for you everywhere. We have to go now, babe.” The man continued.

Babe?

“Uh, yeah. Uhm, Alex this is Jackson. Jack, this is Alex.” Mitchelle gestured.

“Hi, nice meeting you Alex. I’m the boyfriend.” He held out his hand.

Oh. So this is who Bree was talking about earlier too.

“I’m her…new classmate and friend.”

He noticed the jacket and removed it from her, replacing with his own jacket.

“This must be yours. Thank you for keeping my girlfriend company, Alex.” He politely said as he handed me back my jacket.

I took it. “Yeah, sure.”

“Cool. Let’s go?” Jackson asked to Mitchelle.

“Yeah, see you next week at school, Alex.”

“Yep, take care.”

With that, I was left alone. So she has a boyfriend. Of course, someone like her must have one.

I better find Bree and go home too. I went back inside and spotted her almost passed out with Sel on the couch, maybe after they’ve had another round of dancing and alcohol when I left. We made it to my apartment past midnight with Sel’s help with Bree. I can’t take her back to their house like that. Then Selena eventually went home. It’s good she is sober enough after several minutes. I decided to end the day and rest for my work tomorrow.
