Chapter 10: "Oh, it's bad."

Scarlet's POV

“How dare you didn’t answer my phone?” Denise shouted as soon as I opened the door.

“Good morning to you too,” I cheerfully replied while rolling my eyes at her.

“Hey! You don’t get to roll your eyes at me,” She snapped glaring at me with her icy blue eyes. She looked like an angry Barbie doll with her perfectly styled blonde hair flowing down her back.

Her turquoise dressy shirt was tucked in the front in her white shorts while it hung loosely behind. She completed her look with a pair of thick sole white sneakers. Even early in the morning she looked like a model who was going to shoot for a magazine while I looked like I had just come out of my rat hole.

Turning around I made my way into the kitchen to make three cups of coffee, already knowing that she is going to rant for some time.

“Do you know I was awake last night for a long time waiting for your call and you didn’t even text me back? I sent you like a hundred texts,” Complaining she sat on the barstool near the counter.

“Can you guys shut up? It’s eight in the morning; a girl can’t even get proper sleep in this house,” Blu grumbled sitting beside Denise and laid her head on the counter.

I knew she was still a little hung-over from yesterday after she returned home late, at nearly three am, drunk off her ass.

Blu was usually all poised and full of grace you wouldn’t catch her having an ugly moment, except times like this but even then, she looked cute somehow.

“What’s up with her?” Denise, having rarely seen her like this, asked somewhat concerned.

“It’s nothing. She is just hung-over,” I said passing her a cup of coffee and keeping one in front of Blu.

Slowly raising her head on smelling the rich aroma of coffee, she took her mug in her hand which had a childhood photo of both of us printed on it while I poured some for myself in a similar mug.

“Thanks Scar, I needed this right now,” She muttered while taking a sip, uncaring of the heat which would definitely burn her tongue. She strategically alternated between drinking her coffee and leaning her head down to minimize her throbbing headache. It seemed to be working as she cracked me a smile seeming much less grumpy than before.

“Well now that she is fine let’s get back to the topic. How could you leave me hanging?” I sighed at her over dramatic tone. Denise had no chill in cases like these she cannot bare being ignored and always made a fuss of it since forever. Her reason, as she claims is that this is how people drift apart and she can never let that happen to us.

Talk about being melodramatic. I know she cares but sometimes all a person needs is some space.

I knew I should have at least dropped a text; now look I have created a monster!

“Come on Denny! You know I didn’t mean to leave you hanging-” I started but immediately came to a halt when I saw the ‘stop-spewing-bullshit’ look she was glaring at me.

Grunting I decided to be honest with her, she knew me well over the years to know when I was telling the truth, “Fine, I was really tired and in a bad mood so I didn’t want to talk to you or anyone. That’s the only reason why I didn’t fill you in yesterday.”

Playing with the end of her locks she whined, “But I was looking forward to it all throughout the evening.”

“No offense Denise but you are acting like a clingy girlfriend, just leave Scarlet alone. I feel bad for whoever your boyfriend is,” Blu grumbled from beside me causing me to bark out a laughter at their usual banter. It was nothing serious and all in good spirit carried out through a string of snide comments.

Denise blushed a slight pink at this and reverted back with an overly used ‘shut up’. A pompous smile appeared on Blu’s face on not receiving any intelligent comebacks from her. They acted so childish sometimes, it was actually refreshing.

“What are you guys talking about anyway?” Blu asked her brown eyes now sparking with curiosity.

I groaned and sent a glare at Denise for causing me more trouble than what she already brought.

I hadn’t told Blu about my date with Andrew because I knew she had to go out with her friends yesterday and she would have immediately cancelled all her plans to meet him. She would even stay up all night waiting for me until I came home it’s what we did for each other on our first dates to make sure that the other is completely safe.

We had religiously followed that tradition until yesterday.

Now I will have to deal with an angry friend and an angry sister.

Understanding crossed on Denise’s features and with an evil smirk she cackled, “Yes Scar, tell her what we were talking about.”

If only I had psychic powers, I would zip her mouth close forever, she usually uses it at the wrong places at the wrong time.

Slowly making my way out of the open kitchen I stood at a distance from them so that it is easier for me to escape when needed.

“Ah, you see Blu, I might have not told you about something important,” I said still inching away from them slowly, so as not to alert them of my intentions of running away.

“Well I suppose it can’t be that bad,” she appeases trying to get me to open up as she placed her empty mug of coffee on the counter giving me her full attention.

Her eyes were trained on me demanding the truth, I knew she didn’t like that I could possibly be hiding something from her. I know I would hate it if she hid something from me too but it was so goddamn difficult to admit something after screwing up like that.

“Oh, it’s bad,” Denise snorts from beside her grabbing Blu’s attention which gives me a chance to make my escape.

I took off without another word in hopes of escaping an early morning war.
