"You're gonna follow orders, whether you like it or not. For now, get "settled in", because you're gonna be here for a while... or not. Hehehe.." he commanded as he walked away into an office room.
"Guy's name is Subaki. What a jerk." Jaden spoke. Subaki? I swear I had heard that name somewhere before.
"How do you know? We never saw him before." I asked.
"That dude used to scam bunches of people who worked for him. Screwed them up to $15,000 in debt."
Ohhh. I knew who this guy was. He was the one who screwed my dad out of a job and his money. No wonder I heard his name. But I guess money like that doesn't matter now. We are in the apocalypse, money's just paper now.
"Like he said, we should probably "get comfy" or whatever." Rocco sassed.
I guess I could get comfortable in this place. I thought. We may be slaves, but damn are we treated well.
The large meeting room we were camping out in was quite roomy and had a mini-fridge with quite a bit of food and water.
"Screw this, I'm escaping." The ginger spoke.
"Jake, please calm down. That will only make things worse." The unnamed girl said.
"Well, Tauri, why don't you create a mastermind plan?" Jake fired back.
The meek girl now known to me as Tauri had stopped speaking. I saw tears well up in her eyes a little, as Jake had a new face of regret.
"Sorry." He grumbled.
The room went silent for a while, until one of the guards I recognized from before burst through the room.
"Alright kids, you need to be out for drills in about 10 minutes." She boomed with a loud voice. "Names Katarina, but you can call me Kat. No need to tell me your names, I already know em'."
How did she know my name? Well, I didn't think to question her because I didn't want to get killed on the spot.
"Thank you. We will be out soon." I replied.
"Like the attitude!" She beamed. She was so nice, compared to the other guards and Subaki. That jerk.
"Alright, I'll let the boss know yer comin'. See ya!" she hollered, as she strutted out of the room with confidence and flair. How could somebody be so happy-go-lucky during this? Perhaps she knows what she's getting herself into. Maybe drugs. Or maybe even both. But I couldn't focus on that, I had to get myself ready to go. I had gotten up and stretched my legs a little. Then I felt a slight poke in my pocket. Then I realized they weren't smart enough to search me when I was sleeping, and I had my knife in my pocket still. I decided to keep it there, just in case an ambush of zombies or something were to happen. We had started to walk out to the "drill room", which was quite obvious due to the large sign engraved in a wall. Turns out, it was outside. But when we had walked around the corner, we could not believe our eyes. There were green-painted dummies standing upright, and next to them were shooting targets. One was occupied by the girl we had seen earlier.
"Welcome to the training grounds, y'all!"
