Once I was finished training, Kat had led me to Subaki's office.
"Listen, kid." She said with a stern tone. "I don't wanna let you go in there, because I know that he's gonna antagonize you. Don't believe anything he says, or you'll end up like me. Capiche?" This was the first time the happy-go-lucky girl was serious. I was taken aback, and I had taken note of it. She meant what she had said.
"Capiche." I responded.
I had walked in the room to see Subaki at his desk, focused on a book titled "Lead the Survivors: a Book About Leadership". When he notices me come into the room, he gives me a crooked smile yet again. Gross.
" Hello, Ms. McFarland." He spoke. "You can take a seat over there." He points to an office chair in front of his desk. It was still clean somehow.
"Thank you." I hesitated. Now, when I had looked at him he got serious. It scared me a little.
"Do you notice the technique you used for the machete?" He said. "It was quite interesting, not like the others. A black sheep. Like how I am, we were both born leaders."
I had sat in shock. This man was saying that I was like him. Sure, I do believe I am a leader. But I don't make people follow me under a grueling fist.
"That is why I want to ask you to take notes from me and we can work together. We can change the game if we do this." He shifted.
He wants me, a 16 year old girl whose father has been scammed by him, to co-lead. What the hell was this man on? I was right, these people really must be on drugs. But come to think of it, I could find out some information on why he is this way or maybe even some meaning to what Kat had told me.
"I might have to think about it." I answered. He didn't look surprised.
"Alright, I will give you two days to make your decision." He smiled. "You may leave."
I walked out of the room and looked at Kat. She gave me a hurt look, like I hadn't acknowledged anything she had said.
"I'll tell you why later." I replied before anything was said.
Something nagged at me though. Something cold.
"Don't forget to breathe."
