After that terrible experience, I had walked back to the office room where I had taken a gander at my belongings. I had thought about searching through my bag and my loot when I heard a loud bang along the outskirts of the frontier. Turns out that bang was a gun shot (no kidding!)
to ward off the zombie wave coming our way. I got quite frightened, and packed my bag and ran out to the main hallway when I slammed into Kat. When I backed away, I apologized for slamming into her and asked what happened.
"Pardon my french, but we are fucked." Kat panicked. "You need to get out of here with your friends, they already started to run out the front. Come with me!"
She grabbed my wrist and began to run, pulling me along. We bolted out of the front door and ran to the training station so I could grab a wooden machete.
"I will cover you!" She hollered. She pulled out a handgun and aimed at the trees. Although there were many zombies coming, they weren't around the training grounds as much. I nabbed a machete and grabbed a flat rock from the ground. I began to sharpen it as I ran with Kat to the back of the frontier. There was screaming and shooting and groaning as we passed. We were forced to stop right when we almost ran when Subaki stopped Kat. I could see the team to the right, fighting off the walkers. Jake had looked at me and gave me a sorrowful smirk as he continued.
"She can't go past here, she has to stay and fight." He spoke. I felt so scared at that moment, to be so hated by this man. He was treating me like a slave, like my dad was treated.
"Calm down. Don't forget to breathe." My dad whispered in my ear. I knew what to do. I took a deep breath, and I said "Didn't you consider me as an equal once? Or was that a ploy for me to stay?"
"Shut the hell up, you brat!" Subaki yelled, as he pulled out a Revolver from his back pocket. Kat was in front of me. He pulled the trigger. But we didn't die. Kat and I opened our eyes, and saw Jake on the floor. I was in shock, Kat tackled Subaki, and the team ran to us screaming.
"Oh my god! What are we going to do!?" Jaden screamed. Tears welled up in my eyes. Then I heard a trigger pull, and Subaki was dead.
"We have to run and get to a small town nearby! There's a place we go to loot for resources farther from here." She exclaimed. As soon as we heard it, we made a run for it. All of a sudden, explosions started happening. I turned my head to look at Jake, who stood up and started chasing us.
"He turned!" I yelled.
"Faster, everyone!" Tauri shrieked. We went even faster, but pulled out our weapons just in case. But it wasn't necessary, because we had found a small place to hide for the time being. It wasn't the village, but it was a teeny cottage house. It reminded me of when I stayed in that old house with my dad.
"Alright everyone, let's go in and catch our breath." Jaden spoke. We walked in the cottage (with no door.) And started to go to the corners of the room. We sat down for a moment. I started to think about Jake. Although he might've been quite angry, he was a person. Like all of us. We all have emotions. I had taken a peek outside of the hallowed window, and saw a clear field with no zombies. Must've died in the fire.
"Guys, there are no more zombies. Should we go?" I shivered.
"Yeah, let's walk." Rocco spoke.
"A new day, a new life is in that village is waiting for us."
That's true, and I couldn't wait for it. When we walked out of the cottage house, I had stepped on the grass that went on for miles, and had a nagging voice in my head.
"Don't forget to breathe."
But it wasn't just my dad. It was Jake.
He was with us too.
