A New Best Friend.

Justin's P.O.V

It was Wednesday and I was already in class waiting for Mr. Winston, the biology teacher to appear. Just when I thought I was going to die waiting, he walked in… with a young boy about my age. Mr. Winston is a tall and light-skinned man. He's so white, when he's mad, his skin turns red.

As for the boy- I've never seen him in the Empire before. I guessed he's new. He was also quite tall and dark. He had curly hair which had a shiny black color. The hair at the sides of his head was lower than that on the top of his head which made him looked a lot more attractive. He was also slim and had light brown eyes.

He walked into the middle of the class and grabbed our attention. "Hey, I'm Alan Grey, an exchange student from Winchester High." He said. He sounded pretty composed and for a new kid, he seemed not to be shy at all. He told us that he heard a lot about the Empire and he always wanted to come here. And that's why he took his opportunity as it came. He had exchanged with Toby Munroe.

He took Toby Munroe's seat which was on the second row and then Mr. Winston told Brenda; the nerd of the class as Lisa had told me before, to take him round the school during break and then the lesson started.

After the fourth lesson, it was break time. As I was packing up my books, Brenda suddenly approached me. She said I should help her take the Alan on tour because she had something very important to do. I didn't have anything 'very important' to do so I agreed to do it. I thought it was going to be fun meeting new people.

Unlike it was when I came into the Empire newly, boys and girls didn't gather around him. The most they did was to tell him hi and then walk past. Maybe it was because of the Physics test. 😂

Some seconds later, it was just him and I in class.

"Emm… please where is the girl that was supposed to take me round the school? Brenda." He asked. He probably thought she stood him up.

"She's got something really important to do, so I'll take you instead."

"You will? Great!"

"Shall we go now?"

"Sure," he said and we left

"So um… you're going to my first friend in the Empire, right?" I nodded. "I'm so excited."

"The pleasure's all mine." I said, trying to go with the flow. "So, why did you decide to change schools? What do you love so much about The Empire that has brought you here?" I just couldn't contain the curiosity.

"Me? I just like the school; everything about it." He stated with his unusually deep voice and I smelt a lie.

"Is there anything wrong with Winchester High?" I asked. I felt I was burrowing too deep and I remembered when Anastasia asked me a question like this and I got furious. Well, ours was actually a wholly different case.

"Nope, not a thing!" He stated. I left it at that. He said there was nothing wrong so why should I bother myself?

When we left the gym, he asked; "What is your name my good friend?"

"Justin Cole." I said sharply.

"Cole?" He asked surprised. "Did you know the legendary Davis Cole? That wrestler."

"Not personally, but I admire him." Why did I have to lie? Maybe I could tell him the truth if the need ever arises. If I told him the truth, he would've probably fainted.

"Damn, I love him. And the Triple A was just so spectacular!" He commented. Does everyone I meet always have to remind me about my dad?

"Yeah."

"Well, I'm Alan Grey"

"I know that."

"Oh, I thought you weren't listening." He said and chuckled. I chuckled too. He was really free and open and I liked people like that!

During lunch, Anastasia, Alan, Lisa and I sat on the same table to eat. I was as surprised as hell that both of them left their friends to come and dine with us. I was pretty startled when I saw them arrive with their trays. It was probably 'cause they wanted to meet the 'new kid.' They sat at the opposite side of the table.

Lisa was unusually quiet; it was as if she was observing him or something.

"Hey, I'm Anastasia; my friends call me Staci. Pleased to meet you." Wait… who calls her Staci?? She stretched her hand for a handshake and he took it.

"The feeling is mutual." He stated.

"I'm Lisa." Lisa said plainly and he replied.

We ate in silence for the remaining minutes until break was over and it was time to go back to class for the remaining classes to commence.

Lisa's P.O.V

We had eaten dinner and everyone had retired to the rooms already. I was done with all the assignments I had and by my judgment; I had read more than enough.

I lay down on my bed and began scrolling through my Instagram page. 7 people unfollowed me? No fair! I started chatting with one of my friends from another country and when I got bored I just went to watch YouTube videos.

I somehow got bored of that also, so I tried Subway Surf.

After a couple of failed attempts, I quit it too. I dropped my phone on the bed and tried sleeping; I just couldn't. I felt exhausted but I couldn't sleep. How is that even possible? That was when I suddenly felt a strong urge to use my powers and get to know more about them. I guess the saying 'An idle man is the devil's workshop,' is true 'cause the desire was damn strong!

I tried my best to get those unwelcome thoughts outta my head but they didn't seem to want to leave. I closed my eyes for a straight five minutes trying to sleep but all I could see in my head was me playing with those ice curses.

I couldn't bear it anymore so I got up from my bed. I felt a rush of energy flow through me and I felt like destroying something, but what could that be? It was as if I was going to explode any minute.

So I headed to Justin's room to meet him and ask him what I should do about the urge since he's more experienced than me in this 'superpower surge' thing.

I knocked softly at his door multiple times but he didn't come. I knocked again a couple of times and still he didn't answer. I felt he was sleeping but my instincts told me that he wasn't. I turned to go back to my room when the thought of not being able to sleep for the whole night crossed my mind. It somehow made me walk back to the entrance of his room and open the door slowly.

My instincts were right; he was sitting down on his chair, playing 'Injustice' so aggressively. He had a pair of headphones on and that's why he didn't hear me knock at the door.

He literally hadn't noticed me walk in so I decided to switch on the lights.

He dropped the pad which made a clattering sound as it fell. He was pretty startled. He probably thought that mum or dad had caught him playing video games in the middle of the night.

He sighed. "Oh… it's you." He seemed pretty relieved that it wasn't mum or dad. He removed the headphones.

I sat on his bed and prayed he won't yell at me for sneaking up on him or something and luckily, he didn't. He looked at me in a 'how can I help you,' kind of way.

"Justin, I'm having some kind of superpower surge and I really need your help." I paused and then continued. "It feels as if power is rushing through me and I'm literally going to explode soon if I don't let it out." I told him.

"You mean you just want to pour all the power welling up inside of you?" He asked, slightly knitting his brows and looking a bit lost.

"Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. It's like I just want to puke it all out. Don't you ever feel like that sometimes?" I questioned, since he was behaving like the way I felt was unusual.

"Yeah, I did, once. That was the day I almost killed you, remember?"

"Yup… I can't ever forget that day." I said and he smiled.

"I was so out of my mind that day. I thank God I didn't do anything stupid to you." He said with a grateful and contented voice. If the thing that was in his head that day didn't let go, I would've been history by now.

"You can't let it out in your room 'cause it will be a big mess; everything will be frozen or wet." He stated. "So what do you suggest we do?" I really couldn't think of what to do but the feeling was unbearable. It was as if I was a balloon whose pressure was being increased per second. I just couldn't take it!

An idea popped into my mind after some seconds of thinking. There was this karate school, the one I attended which was not too far from our house. Maybe we could go there so I could finally free myself from this burden. 'I hope I don't destroy the place.'

"I'm thinking… maybe we should go to 'Jiko Boei School'. It's a karate school and will probably be a great place for me to set myself free. It's not too far from here; we can trek the distance." I suggested.

"At this time?" He asked unbelievably.

"Yes!" I answered unconcernedly. "Who knows what will happen if I don't? I may actually burst." I joked but he only smiled. I felt like I was being a burden to him but it wasn't my fault.

He switched off the Play Station and walked to his wardrobe. He brought out a box and got two eye masks out of it. One was red and the other, blue. He gave me the blue one and took the red one.

"I figured that we might need it someday." That was so thoughtful of him. "And just so you know, I made em myself." He seemed to be so pleased. I figured that he probably felt the same way too just that he chose to conceal it.

"Thanks!" I said as I fixed the mask into one of the pockets of my pajamas. He was also wearing pajamas and I really didn't see the need for us to change clothing

He opened the door to the balcony and went out, leaving me inside. I didn't follow him 'cause I wanted to lock my door first. I saw him on the railings, waving me goodbye through his window. He could easily fall and get fatally injured. I was about to tell him to get off the railings when he slipped and fell. He fucking fell!!! I couldn't believe my eyes.

I was so shocked; I stood frozen for about a minute. Why in the world did he even climb on those railings in the first place? We were so high up; no one could survive a fall like that and I was sure about that. I don't know what I was waiting for but my legs were stuck to the ground; I couldn't move. I didn't have the courage to get out of that position to find out what really happened.
