Ashley stood up with a sullen look. She looked weak and lifeless after all the tiring work they did all day. Unfortunately, it was all just fruitless labor. She was worried. What is she gonna do now? Will she be stuck here forever? She didn't even know where to go.
She didn't know how long she'll stay in the Palace and if she will leave, where will she go? She didn't know anyone here. She wasn't even a vampire. She was the sole human in this place.
Ramier understood that it was time for them to leave the Royal treasury. He signalled Ashley that they were gonna leave. She tried to hide her forlorn expression. But, she failed. Her face wore a fake smile as she looked at him and nodded. Her aura was eminating a dejected feeling. He didn't have to figure out. It was written all over her distressed eyes.
They walked for minutes and they reached the outside of the Royal treasury. He turned to look at the two guards and he left without saying anything. The two guards just bowed before him. They understood what he meant and closed the double doors of the treasury.
Ashley followed Ramier till they were back to the Palace. He paused in his tracks and looked back to Ashley who was on the verge of tearing up.
He thought that it must be hard for her since she won't be able to go back to her world. He couldn't help her because he also knew nothing. He suddenly felt sorry for the poor girl.
Ashley absentmindedly just kept on following Ramier. He went to his dining hall and called the servants to prepare dinner.
It was really awkward for him since Ashley didn't say anything. Ashley jolted when she felt Ramier pat her shoulder and it was then she realized that she followed him to his Palace.
He was Emperor and man with the highest standing in the Kingdom. She recalled her disrespectful attitude towards him. She shouldn't have behaved so casually in front of him.
"Ahm— I'm sorry I followed you here your Highness.."she said nervously.
" It's alright.. I was also thinking of inviting you to have dinner with me, when we were inside the treasury." he said and moved the chair for Ashley to sit.
They waited for the food and Ashley still wasn't talking. Ramier decided to ask her for her findings on the legacies they inspected earlier. He knew what was going on but it was better to ask her about it.
" So... Did you find anything?"
He was tapping his finger on the table as he waited for her response. She pursed her lips and shook her head.
"Nothing? .. Not even a single—? "
She shook her head again, confirming that she found nothing.
"Those items, are they from your world?"
"Yes.. Your Majesty."
Ramier clicked his tongue and turned his gaze to the servant who was approaching their table. The servant placed the food in front of them and started to pour blood to his glass.
He stopped the servant when he was about to pour blood on Ashley's glass. Ashley tensed when she saw the bottle and looked immediately towards Ramier. Fortunately, he stopped the servant.
She breathed out a sigh of relief. That was close..
She said nothing and they began eating. Ashley ate less because she wasn't in the mood to eat a lot. She was pondering if she should ask Ramier about her stay in the Palace. Ask him when he'll kick her out.
She didn't want to beggar. Certainly not. She wanted to ask him, if at least she could work as a maid or help her find an employer. She was slowly accepting that she won't be able to go home.
She needed to work to provide for herself. She was sad right now but she knew she'll bounce back to positivity later. She didn't want to stay depressed at something she couldn't control. Afterall it was fate that led her here. More like a sound..lead her here. .
Besides, even if she went back to her world, nothing would change the fact that she already lost everything. If she went back she wouldn't guarantee that she could stop her parents from divorcing nor take back her ex-boyfriend. The fact she was also labeled as a murderer...
It's better to start a new life here even though it will be hard. Not to mention, she was safe here...sort-off.
She wasn't afraid anymore. The vampires here don't drink human blood. What was there to drink in the first place? Technically there were no humans here besides herself. They only drank animal blood to quench their thirst and sustain themselves.
She felt much better now that she convinced herself. She has to be strong. Since there was no one to depend on other than herself.
Ashley toughened herself to ask Ramier a question she's been contemplating a while back. She looked him in the eyes and said.
"It is alright if I ask his Majesty a question?" she asked.
Ramier was surprised that she seemed to have cheered up instantly.
"Yes..What is it?" he smiled.
"Your Majesty, when will I leave the Palace?"she asked." I just want to know so that I'll be able to prepare myself. "
Ramier creased his forehead. What was she saying? Why would she leave the palace?
"Sorry I—? I didn't quite get what you said? "
"You see Your Majesty.. I discovered that I won't be able to go back to my world. Of course, I don't want to implicate his Highness." she explained.
"Especially since I'm not even from here and am not of high status… If his Majesty doesn't mind. I would like to ask for your help in finding me an employer."
"I want to find a job. I'm fine with anything. As long as the salary is reasonable." she said.
Ramier was confused. What was talking about? Employer? And didn't want to implicate him? It took him seconds to realize what she meant.
'She must think that I'll kick her out?' he thought.
How can he do that? Did she forget that she was a legacy. It meant that she already had a high status not even in the kingdom, but in the entire continent.
He found this quite laughable. After all, she was unaware. If others were the one to possess her status they would have second thoughts and take advantage of it. He was amused with her humility. Going too far by lowering herself. Ridiculous...
He wasn't aware that he was over-assessing the situation. Ashley simply wanted a place to stay. She didn't care about honor. She was already past that. She knew that fame isn't as good as what other perceive it to be. People would only remember you when you're on the top and screw you over when you're at the bottom.
She looked puzzingly at the vampire who openly laughed at her. His reaction was so out of place. What was so funny? Did she have dirt on her face? She touched her face wondering if there was stray food in her cheeks.
"No.. Not that." he said when he looked at what she was doing. "Pardon me for laughing at your unintentional misunderstanding."
Ashley furrowed her brows. Unintentional misunderstanding? Did he just call her... stupid?
"But don't worry. I don't plan on kicking you out of this Palace." he reassured before continuing on eating his meal.
She was about to get angry at Ramier for calling him stupid with his flowery words but the next thing she heard him say made her shocked.
"So.. I get to stay?"she doubted.
Ramier nodded.
