2. Coincidence

Tarah Narrative

An idiot that was Dimitri Hughes, an idiot who believed that with money you could buy everyone, and although maybe he could do it, he was wrong if he thought that I was going to be left. Perhaps my hands and legs were tied and I couldn't get out of it, but since I had no other choice but to accept to be his wife I would do it by my rules, not his.

I was so lost in my things that when I left the building I walked without realizing that I had reached the street, the screams of those present were what brought me back to reality, but it was already quite late, I fell to the ground instantly. The last thing I remembered was a bump on my butt and someone getting out of the car to help me.

Narrated by Dimitri

He was gone, leaving me with the word in my mouth, wasting my valuable time, time which he could have spent reading contracts, reviewing papers or even having a very important video call.

-Shit. -I said finally and banged on the desk. William leaned back in his chair and shook his head.

-We knew it wasn't going to be easy Mitri, Gates doesn't get intimidated, you might even say she's a tough girl. I got up from my desk and walked over to the mini-bar, had a bottle of vodka and poured myself a drink.

-It's not about being intimidated or not, what we need here is speed, these papers must be ready before the wedding and I don't think she will sign them. Not unless her father convinces her.

-And why don't you talk to him? -I shook my head and took another swig of my drink.

-Talking to him is like accepting that I can't handle her and that's what everyone thinks, I won't give them the pleasure.

-That's the most viable option, or you can make him think he's in control, even if he's not. -I was about to object, but that idea wasn't so bad.

-Giving him his own way. -I said and William nodded. Gates lets his guard down when he thinks the situation is under control, and even though he's mostly on guard, you can get him to let his guard down once in a while, more than anyone else in the world. -Will was right that Gates and I knew each other more than anyone else in life, and that gave us an advantage over each other.

-Okay, if she wants to play like that, let's play. I finished and William smiled.

Tarah Narrative

I opened my eyes and when I looked at the place where I was I started to panic, it was not my room, I tried to stand up, but my head started to hurt.

-Ouch. - I said and rubbed this one. -You're alive. -When I heard Ava, I turned around and saw her sitting in a small chair by the door. I felt a little relief as I realized she wasn't kidnapped.

-What happened? -I said and Ava came over to me.

-You ran out of my brother's office and into the street, and a car rolled up on you.

-What? -Ava got up and walked over to me.

Ava, was Dimitri's younger sister and unlike him, she was gentle, polite and was my best friend, the only thing we both shared.

-And how did I get here? -How did you get here?

-Well, the person who almost killed you is a doctor. He's a very important doctor who came from Boston to give a workshop when he ran over you, and he put you in his car and brought you here.

-Shit," I said and lay down again in bed, "what time can I go? I asked and Ava shook her head.

You can't, at least not until tomorrow, they have to do blood tests and the results of the X-ray are not ready, you might have hit your head. -I grimaced and when I was about to call out the door to my room, we both turned our heads and it was a doctor.

-You woke up. -said the boy in the white coat with the light eyes and the charming smile.

-Yes," I said so as not to look like an idiot. Ava, she adjusted her hair and sat as straight as she could, I couldn't help but smile a little.

-I'm Dr. Brown Adam Brown. -she said and held out her hand. As I shook it with mine, I felt a kind of electric current so I quickly pulled it away.

-Tarah Gates. -I said and swallowed some saliva, that young man was quite handsome. He had light eyes, a wonderful smile, dark hair, a bit wavy, but what caught my attention was his accent, I was sure he was my attacker.

-Were you the one who ran me over? -I finally said and Adam's skin turned a little red, answering my question without saying a word.

-I'm sorry. -he said and scratched his neck.

-In my defense, it was green and you were kind of lost in the street, so I tried to stop, but by the time I did, it was too late. -I tried to stop, but by the time I did, it was too late. You could tell he was a good person because the situation was making him a little uncomfortable and I loved making people uncomfortable. So my intention was to make him suffer a little more.

-The good thing is that you didn't leave me stranded on the street.

-The doctor, he has already apologized, Tarah, be nice. -I hated Ava a few times for being a party pooper but I finally nodded my head.

-Okay, I'm fine, I just wanted to make you suffer a little. -I didn't realize that Adam had held his breath until that moment because I had just pushed him out.

-I thought you were going to sue me, I was even going to talk to my lawyer. -We both laughed and I shook my head. - No paperwork tonight. After Adam was with us for a while talking about why he had left Sheffield, his life in Boston and projects made me know him for most of his life, even though he was a doctor and they have a reputation for being very boring, with Adam it was the opposite, he was fun, cheerful and a very intelligent person, people like him used to please me quite a bit.
