4. Between a rock and a hard place

When we left the hospital we both went quietly, I was sure that Dimitri had heard my plans with Adam, but he hadn't mentioned anything, that was already worrying me. Dimitri was not the type of guy to keep quiet, he didn't always say what he thought no matter how much we both looked alike, that's why his silence made my hair stand on end.

-Tomorrow Ava goes on a trip. We are thinking of organizing some farewell for her. -I had completely forgotten, Ava was going to a workshop or something fashionable for two weeks, she would be back just in time for the wedding, leaving me in total abandon.

-I. -I said and frowned.

-You know I'm not good at goodbyes. I said and Dimitri walked to the door of the co-pilot and he opened it for me to enter.

-I know, but we won't see her for two weeks, plus there's going to be a celebration for my mother too. -I grimaced as she turned around and walked into her seat.

Tarah was a very expressive girl, if something was bothering her she would say it or make it known with her gestures, my mother was not her favorite person, but Ava was so she could not resist going, it was a magnificent plan.

-And if you'll excuse me to your family? -she said, looking straight ahead, I squeezed the wheel of the car to hide my anger and started driving home.

-Gates, we're supposed to be getting married, we have to do this kind of thing together. -He listened to me talk, turned his head so he could see me, and refused.

-We don't have to look like leeches, one attached to the other, the media and others will understand that we have a social life too. -I wanted to persuade her to leave her appointment with Mr. Perfect in the white coat, but she was determined to go and for some reason, the truth is that I didn't know her and that bothered me.

-Okay, so tell that to your parents-she was silent, she had won the battle. Tarah was willing to do anything to avoid confronting her parents, especially her mother. Elena had a very strong character and always ended up convincing Tarah to do what she wanted.

-Good. -She said once I parked outside her building.

-I'm going, but only because of Ava. -I smiled broadly as she reached for her purse. Tarah, she was a very intelligent girl as well as beautiful, even though I found it hard to recognize, I had to do it, that's why I had once fallen in love with her, but no more, that mistake I wasn't going to repeat twice. She opened the door of the car and got out without saying goodbye at least, she just walked away from there.

I leaned back on the seat and sighed deeply, unintentionally through the mirror I saw her driving away, and I felt a twinge in my chest.

When I arrived at my apartment I threw away the keys and went straight to the couch, I was very tired, it had been a very difficult day and the next day would be worse, since I had the use of reason I hated goodbyes, I never went to one, but this case was different, it was Ava and Bianca's birthday, if I didn't go my parents would surely scream in heaven. While I was thinking about how to get rid of it, my cell phone rang. When I saw who it was, I smiled and answered.

-So soon you miss me already? -even though I just met Adam I could swear he was smiling.

-I wanted to know if you got home okay, your boyfriend didn't seem very happy with my presence. -It was true that Dimitri couldn't hide his jealousy, but it wasn't jealousy because he loved me, it was business jealousy, if someone approached me there was a possibility that he would lose the business of his life.

-I wouldn't have to. -I said and Adam was silent for a moment.

-Their relationship is quite rare. -I was about to answer him, but at that moment I had a brilliant idea of how to kill two birds with one stone.

-Would you like to go to a party tomorrow? -I asked, and a sigh was heard.

-I'm not good at parties. -he said and I smiled.

-It is not a party as such, it is the farewell of my friend who accompanied me to the hospital

-Ava? -she answered immediately and I'm glad she had a good memory.

-Please," I said and he sighed again, apparently he loved doing that.

-Okay," she finally said and I smiled.

-I'll send you a message with my address so you can pick me up. -I'll send you a message with my address so you can pick me up," I said and hung up the phone. I didn't want him to think about it and say no, plus if I had to go to the party without wanting to, I had to find good company and I was sure he would be.

When I got home I saw William's car parked on the porch, that meant only one thing "trouble". I sighed heavily and got out of my car and he did the same thing I did.

-What happened? -I said and he ran his hand through my hair.

-He arrived in the morning. -Those words made my pulse race.

-Does he know about the wedding yet? -I asked and he nodded.

-Shit, what are we going to do? -We went to the entrance and when I was about to put the keys in, Ambar appeared in front of the door.

-So you just wanted to send me away, so that I could go home

-So you just wanted to send me away, so you could marry her. -I shook my head, but it was obvious that she would not believe me.

-Tell me Dmitri, what would you be willing to do to prevent her from learning the truth? -I clenched my fist and Amber laughed, she had hit the nail on the head.

-What do you want? -I said and she smiled broadly.

-You know what I've always wanted. -William and I looked at each other and shook our heads.

-I can't give you that. -Amber shrugged and turned away.

-Well, you'll be hearing from me soon.
