Anxious [46]

I half jogged to my house and through the porch stairs, opening the door I entered inside and took off my wet shoes and jacket. Running a hand through my hairs, I untangled them and tucked them behind me ears. The action reminded me how he had tucked my hairs behind my ears today. The touch of his cold fingers on my skin. His hypnotic gaze. And his velvety smooth voice. I felt a rush of heat on my face recalling him. I shook my head and moved inside.

"Kat?" I heard Grace's voice from the living room.

Who else? I thought to myself. "I'm back." I answered.

Grace was reading a file and a lot of other papers and things were strewn across the table. She must have received a new project or some office work.

"How was your day today?" She asked closing the file she was studying and pushing it aside.

I strolled inside the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. "It was good." I smiled to myself, remembering my time with Lucas today. But I shuddered instantly when I recalled the threat. I made a mental note to meet Finn later and inform him about the incident.

"Who dropped you today? I recognized it wasn't Cee's car." She inquired.

"Oh yeah! Cee went home early today. We were performing a chemistry experiment today and she accidentally inhaled a toxic gas. She was coughing so badly. So she had to leave early today." I explained.

"Oh God! Is she okay now?" Her hands flew to her face and she uncrossed her legs. She sounded concerned about Cee.

"I hope she is. I haven't seen her since she left for the nurse's office. I texted her earlier, she said she was okay. But I don't know now." I expressed my doubt.

"Why don't you go see her?" She suggested. Taking off her spectacles, she placed them down on the table beside the files and stood up from the sofa. She came to stand beside me in the kitchen and took out a casserole from the refrigerator.

"I want to but this rain won't stop. It's hard for me to drive in rain especially when it's pouring so heavily. It sends me into an orbit. I'll definitely go once this rain stops." I told her.

"If you want to go then I can drop you." She said putting the casserole in the microwave.

"It's okay. I will finish some homework till it rains. I have to prepare some notes for the tutoring too. I'll go later."

"Tutoring?" She narrowed her eyes.

"Yeah I'm tutoring one of my classmates. He is a transfer student and Mr. McKnight wants me to tutor him." I said, leaning against the counter. I washed my glass and put it on the counter.

"Is it a good thing or a bad thing?"

"Good , I suppose." I answered.

"Is he the one who dropped you off today?" She asked.

"Yeah. His name's Lucas." I told. Personally, I didn't appreciated the idea of sharing personal information with anyone but it was Grace so I didn't mind telling her. Moreover, she is not some stranger to me. She has been my legal guardian since a very long time. Sharing things with her didn't felt odd. She was like a mother to me.

"Oh that's good. You should invite him to dinner sometime." She suggested and I grimaced with surprise.

"Why should I invite him to dinner?" I said nonchalantly. I didn't liked the idea of where this was going.

"Well you should make new friends in my opinion. And the new guy seems like a nice person." If only she knew what he was like. I didn't like the idea of where this was going.

"I don't think that's a good idea." I disapproved.

"Why not? You should really make new friends and hang out with them." She said with a smile.

I felt like this was some kind of innuendo so I eyed her suspiciously and she immediately raised her hands.

"What? I didn't say anything."

"I know what you mean. Lucas is just a friend, Grace. Nothing more than that." I clarified.

"Got it. Now go change, I'll bring you something to eat." She said and I walked upstairs to my room.

Once inside my room, I changed into comfortable clothes and combed my hair back into a ponytail. I checked my phone for notifications but there was none. Neither from Cee nor from Finn. I wondered why Finn was not responding. Did he not check his cellphone? Or was he in some kind of trouble? He had assured me he could take care of himself. That he was capable of fighting the lower ranked demons. But the demons were not the creatures who could be underestimated. They have already killed three witches before and were behind Finn. I was scared if demons have located him without him realizing. What if they reach to him and he gets in trouble?

I trembled and held my head. I had this sudden urge to go and check up on him. To make sure he was out of harm's way. To make sure I still had hope and a chance to end this. But I couldn't go their. Not until he replies back. He had warned me to only contact him when the need arises. And to inform him before going over his place. I don't know what I was supposed to do now. Should I visit him? Or should I wait here for his reply?

I decided to choose the latter. I unzipped my backpack and decided to finish the homework assigned for today. Dragging the chair of my study desk out, I slid inside and begin solving the problems of trigonometry. I was so absorbed in the work, I didn't realize when I had finished all the subjects. All my homework was done.

I stretched my arms and my head fell back on the chair. The rhythmic tapping of the rain against my windowsill and roof had stopped. I immediately went towards the window and slid the curtain open. It had finally stopped raining and it was time to go.
