Relieved and Exasperated [47]

It was time for me to go. I checked the time. It was six in the evening. I decided to visit Cee first and then check on Finn. There was still no notification from Finn. I was growing anxious. I changed into a dark jeans and a cardigan and wore the amulet. I dialed Cee first.

"Hey! How are you now?" I spoke as soon as she answered the call.

"I'm alright now. But damn the experience was so terrible. I still remember the foul smell of sulphur--- whatever gas it was." She said and I could tell she must be grimacing on the other side.

I laughed. "Sulphur dioxide." I reminded.

"Yeah that. It was one of the worst experiences of my life Kat. I couldn't stop coughing. And the most embarrassing part was that Zach was beside me. I must have looked awful and disgusting." She complained.

"It's okay Cee. It's really not your fault. And I don't think Zach is a kind of person who would judge you." I consoled her.

"I know. I know. He's real good and sweet."

"Yeah so stop fretting over petty things."

"Anyways, you know that nurse. She's a dumb red-head rooster. I was in so much trouble. I couldn't even breathe and instead of giving me something to ease my pain, she just told me to lie down on my back. I don't know who appointed her or what knowledge she has about nursing. But I'm quite sure this is not the way someone is treated." She jabbered and then caught her breath. "And of course she won't attend me because she was reading some erotica book in her office and we disturbed her wanking session." She finally stopped speaking.

"What?" I laughed listening to her ramble.

"You must have seen her. She was so into that book that I can tell it must have been one of those steamy erotic books. If it isn't for Zach, then I must not be able to talk right now. He realized that I wasn't doing any good by the nurse's advice so he took me to hospital and they gave me some medicine. I was fine after that. Then he dropped me home."

"That's so nice of him. I was worried whether you were doing okay or not."

"Zach took good care of me." I could feel her smiling on the other side. "Anyways it was good I got an excuse from chemistry." She laughed. "After all I was planning on ditching the lab class since morning."

"Don't tell me you did that intentionally just to get an excuse." I knew something was fishy since the beginning. Coach had already warned us about the toxicity of the gas, yet she inhaled it. She can get real insane sometimes.

She didn't say anything but laughed.

"You really scare me sometimes Cee. What in tarnation were you thinking?"

"I just told you, I wanted to ditch class." She chuckled and I facepalmed.

"You're crazy."

"Tell me something I don't know." We both laughed. "By the way, can you lend me your chemistry notes for today." She asked.

"Of course." I assured. "You should rest now. You must be tired."

"Nah, I've taken more than enough rest. Now I feel like going outside but man I have to finish a lot of homework."

"I was planning on coming over to check on you."

"Oh you really don't have to come. I'm feeling much better now." She guaranteed.

"Okay. See you tomorrow."

"I'll pick you up tomorrow at our regular time. Bye bye." She disconnected the call.

I threw my phone on my bed and plopped on my bed. I was a bit relieved and exasperated at the same time. Relived cause Cee was alright and sounded better than before. Exasperated because she had done that intentionally just to ditch the class. How much crazy can she actually be? I wondered.

My phone suddenly buzzed and I jumped up to check it. I had a new text from Finn. I immediately swiped on the screen and opened it.

[You can come over.] It read.

I sighed. Thank god he was safe and out of danger. I thought to myself. I hurried down the stairs and grabbed the keys of chevrolet.

"I'm going at Cee's." I informed Grace who was still busy with her work.

She craned her neck to look at me and smiled. "Okay. Enjoy and inform Cee to come over sometime. It's been a long time since she's been here." She advised and got back into her work.

"I will." I answered and dashed out of the house.

The sky was clear but darker. Clouds were gone now and the pale white crescent moon hung against the inky-blue sky. Icy cold wind bleakly hit my face and ruffled a few of the hair strands that were left open. I hopped inside the chevrolet and backed it off the driveway, then pushing the gas pedal I began on my way.

On my way, I continuously flitted my eyes from the street to the side view mirror and then to the rear view, to make sure I wasn't being followed like the last time. That incident had left me traumatized so badly, I can't stop checking over and over again until I'm sure I'm not being tailed by someone. Furthermore, It was better to scan my surroundings all the time as Finn had already mentioned because anyone around me could be possessed by a demon without my knowledge.

When I reached the around the area where Finn resided, I stopped the car at the driveway and determined if I should park around the area or away from it. But parking near to his place would do us no good other than attracting unnecessary attention and the main purpose of the whole thing was to be as discreet and guarded as possible. So I drove around the corner until I reached the same departmental store near his area and parked the Chevrolet among the other cars in the parking area.
