Not Scared

Her teeth clenched together and she glared at his words. She was suddenly aware that her emotions had changed very quickly and she was no longer terrified of this man. Why? Had his story really gotten to her? "Just because I listened to your explanation doesn't mean I'm okay with it Caleb. I've already given you the benefit of the doubt. What else do you want from me?"

He frowned at her words. "A lot more," he confessed. "I want so many things from you, you can't even begin to imagine."

Her breath caught and her eyes widened once again as his words registered in her mind. What did he mean by that? Wait, did she even want to know what he meant? Probably not. She pushed her hands against his chest, trying to push him away, but it was like moving a boulder. She couldn't even make him react to her actions. She huffed as she gave up. "Let me go please. I'm still not sure what to think about you." On one hand, he seemed like a reasonable and kind person, but on the other, he was a ruthless ruler. So, which was he?

"I really don't want to," he said with a smile as he looked down at her. "Do you fear me now?" he asked. His mind and heart were filled with anxiety as he waited for her answer.

"No," she lied, knowing what he wanted to hear. She still feared him. He was a fucking vampire for god's sake! "Now, please release me," she said, voice laced with her impatience.

He sighed as he reluctantly let her go. "Don't be scared of me Rose. I will never hurt you. I would never use my powers against you."

She frowned at his words. "What exactly are your powers? You said you went on a killing spree for more power. So what powers did you accumulate?" The sudden thought made her worry. How powerful was he?

He frowned and gulped as her question brought back unwelcome memories. He hated to think about those years of his life. Hated the way he had been and the things he had done back then. His lips turned to a thin line as he thought about her question. If he told her now, she would only be more cautious of him. She would think he was the devil.

After a few seconds of silence, Rose sighed when he didn't give her an answer. "Fine don't tell me."

"It's not that I don't want to Rose. When the time is right, I will reveal everything about myself. I don't want there to be any secrets between us."

She swallowed hard. She wasn't sure she would be able to do that. How could she be completely honest with him when she didn't trust him? She looked down at the floor, hoping he wouldn't see her expression.

He didn't say anything else as he watched her turn away from him. "It's almost time for dinner. Do you feel well enough to join us?" he asked.

She bit her bottom lip, frowning as she remembered the way the other vampires had stood by watching as Caleb devoured the man, emotionless, unperturbed. It sent a chill down her spine and she shivered. How could anyone be so cold and watch something like that without being bothered?

Caleb noted her reaction and his heart sank. "If you don't want to I can have dinner sent up to your room."

She looked up at him, noting the way his eyes flashed with disappointment. A little part of her felt guilty for acting this way towards him after he had revealed such a big secret to her. He was going to be her husband. She had to be a more open-minded if she was going to marry a vampire. Besides, he had protected her. How could she be so heartless? She sighed and shook her head. "It's alright. I can go downstairs," she finally said, giving in.

Immediately his lips curled up into a smile with her words. He wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. "Let's go," he said as he led her out of the room.

When they entered the dinning room Rose was surprised to see everyone already sitting down waiting for them. She frowned and looked up questioningly at Caleb who pulled out her chair.

Caleb smiled at her. "I knew you would be hungry after you woke up," he explained, noting her surprise as she looked around the table.

She took a seat and looked up at Katherine who sat opposite her once again. She supposed she always would. She gulped as she noted the animosity in Katherine's eyes. What the hell? Was she mad that she had gone down to the basement? She looked away and focused on the table, but she could still feel the heat of her gaze on her.

"I've explained everything to my wife," Caleb said as he looked at Rose with affection.

Rose groaned inwardly as he continued to call her wife. What was she going to have to do to make him stop? She heard murmurs around the table and looked up curiously. Her eyes fell on Katherine once again, who was still glaring at her, but this time, she held her gaze, not backing down.

"I've also revealed my powers and my past to her."

Rose noticed the shocked expression on everyone's faces with his words. Was it really that shocking that he had revealed this to her? He was going to be her husband and would find out eventually. She had to know everything about him. She turned to look at him, curiously. Didn't the whole world know about his powers? Why were they acting so surprised?

Caleb saw her the look of confusion on her face. "I wasn't planning on revealing anything so soon. I wanted to wait a little longer so you wouldn't get scared," he explained. "Everyone knew that."

"Oh," she said, finally understanding why they were surprised.

"So you didn't run huh?" one of the vampires asked, smiling as he looked at her.

Rose frowned as she looked over at him. "No."

"You're not scared?" he asked.

"Nick," Caleb said in warning.

Nick smiled. "I'm just trying to get to know our queen boss," he said innocently.

Rose smiled. So, they had expected her to flee after knowing about Caleb? She had already known about vampires having powers. Why would they expect her to run? "No, I'm not scared," she said, half lying.

Nick's eyebrow lifted in amusement. "Oh no?"

Rose gasped in shock as the objects on the table suddenly started floating in the air. It looked like a scene out of a haunted movie as things began to move on their own. The atmosphere felt eerie and she felt her heart beating loudly in shock. She heard Nick chuckling, and frowned as she turned to face him. Was he trying to scare her?

"Nicholas!" Caleb called, voice cold, laced with anger.

The objects slowly floated back down to the table and Nick frowned. "Sorry," he said. "I just…"

"Out," Caleb ordered. "NOW," he roared and everyone around the table sat up straighter, while Nick shivered in his seat with his eyes downcast.

"Boss…" Nick started to whine, but before he could say more, the glare from his boss made him stand up and leave the dinning room.

"I'm sorry about that," Caleb said as he looked over at her. He was going to kill that idiot! He was trying so hard to earn her trust, yet these idiots kept ruining his progress. Were they purposely trying to scare her away? His eyes narrowed coldly.
