His heart clenched painfully at the sound of her words, but he refused to believe she meant them. She was scared. "Never," he said as he looked down at her. He tightened his arms around her to emphasize his intention. "I will never give up on you Rose. I will go to hell if that's what it takes to get you back."
Her heart beat rapidly as his words gave her hope. "Jack, my father will kill you. Even if you are strong, he has a lot of men and resources. How can you fight against him?" She shook her head. "I can't. I can't be the cause of this. Please just listen to m-"
Her words were cut off as he pressed his lips against hers passionately. All of the feelings and emotions he had been holding back these past few weeks were finally let out in as he devoured her lips ardently, refusing to let her go again.
Rose felt her body heat up as his kiss made her head swim. She moaned and tightened her arms around him, wanting more of him. The desire she had felt so many times suddenly appeared as his hands began to rub her back, sending little shivers over her body.
She moaned as he sucked her bottom lip. Her body trembled as his tongue began to slide over hers, igniting a fire deep inside her core.
He groaned when he heard her whimper against his lips. He had been so stupid, refusing to lay a hand on her before they were married and now, they were being forced apart. He wouldn't let this happen. He couldn't let the woman he loved slip right out of his hands and land in the hands of another. He would never let another man have what belonged to him.
Rose was his, had always been his and he'd be damned if he was going to let someone else come and rip her from his arms. "Come with me," he said as he pulled away enough to look down at her.
Rose trembled, feeling his breath against her lips. "I… how?" she asked, as she tried to clear her mind long enough to make sense of their conversation.
She didn't want to stop. She had wanted to be his for so long, but he had always insisted on waiting until they were married, something about not wanting take her innocence and taint her in the eyes of God. She really couldn't understand him. What kind of man refused to touch his girlfriend?! Had she gotten the only saint in the world?
He chuckled as he watched her struggling to breathe. Memories of their past flashed through his mind as he watched her eyes flutter open. He swallowed hard as he watched the glazed look in her eyes. It was enough to set a man on fire.
He cleared his throat as he tried to settle his emotions. "We'll leave the city. I'll take you where no one will be able to find you. I will never let anyone else touch you Rose. You're mine."
She bit her bottom lip as she watched his eyes glimmer with emotions. Her cheeks turned red with his words. "But, where would we go?" she asked, worried. Could they really run away together? Was there really somewhere they could hide from everyone and be together?
He smiled. "Is that a yes?" he asked.
She smiled. "First tell me how we're going to evade my father and Caleb, then I'll answer your question."
He chuckled. "If I would have asked you to run away with me before, you would have never thought twice about it."
Her smile faded as she remembered why she was hesitating to leave. It wasn't just her life on the line anymore. Hundreds, if not thousands of humans would die if she didn't marry Caleb. She pulled away from him slowly and shook her head.
"Jack I can't go with you. If I run away, he won't protect the people in this city. He will let vampires run free and kill whomever they want. How can I sacrifice so many lives for my sake?"
He frowned. "It's not your responsibility to save everyone else baby. Whatever happens will be with or without you." He reached out for her again, despite her struggles and held her tightly against his chest. "Stop pulling away from me."
She looked up at him and a thought suddenly occurred to her. "You knew vampires were real."
He nodded. "My job has led me to many different parts of the world Rose. You have no idea what I have come across."
She gulped. "Then, you know about their powers?" She remembered talking about vampires with him before, but the conversation had been brief, and he hadn't revealed what he knew about them.
He sighed. "Rose, there is nothing in this world that can't be defeated. Even if they have all the powers in the fucking galaxy, it's not going to stop me from rescuing the woman I love." He pressed his lips against hers gently and looked down at her. "I told you. I'm going to get you out of there and we're going to leave."
Her heart pounded inside her chest. If he knew about vampires and their powers, maybe they really could get away. He said he could defeat them. He sounded confident.
"Okay," she said with a bright smile. He was right. If humans were going to die, it wasn't her fault, or her responsibility. She didn't think Caleb would be so heartless to let humans die simply because she refused to marry him. Right?
He smiled and pressed his lips against hers again. "Let's go."
Her eyes widened as he began to pull her hand and lead her away from where they were. "Wait!"
"What baby?" He stopped and turned to look at her.
"Right now?!" she asked as panic ran through her. Jocelyn was still waiting for her inside.
"Yes. Now. I'm not letting you spend another minute with that freak."
"No, we can't. We can't go until we have everything planned Jack. Please listen to me."
He frowned and turned towards her. "Everything is planned Rose. I will take you from here and hide you somewhere far away."
"Where?"
He frowned. "It doesn't matter. Anywhere far from here."
She shook her head. "I will go with you Jack, but not until you have everything planned out. We can't just be on the run without knowing our destination. Please trust me. One wrong move and we'll be caught. I don't even want to think about what would happen if that… if he…"
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair in frustration. She was right. He was so desperate to take her he wasn't thinking clearly. These past few weeks his focus had only been on finding her and nothing else. He had no plans of where to go, or how to evade everyone who wanted to kill him. But, he had resources she didn't know about, and people he could count on to help him. His brothers would do anything for him, just as he would do for them. "Alright baby, but I won't let you go without a promise from you."
"What?" she asked curiously.
"Don't ever let that fucker touch you."
Her breath caught as his words ran through her mind. Images of her kisses with Caleb suddenly flashed through her mind and her cheeks burned with shame. She lowered her eyes as guilt suddenly washed over her.
