The demon was outraged when he saw that the knights had managed to escape from his storm. He immediately canceled his spell and resorted back to firing bolts out of his palms. The bolts once again proved to be ineffective against the knights. The knights excelled at teamwork and they split up into pairs to fight against the demon. One would defend and the other one would attack using magic.
Jenabas was astonished by how well the knights were fighting. Not only were they skilled with blades, but most of them could use magic as well.
'I'm guessing these elite soldiers are their trump card.'
The demon, unable to protect himself while attacking at the same time, was forced to swap entirely to the defensive, allowing the knights to move forward and surround him. Siegfried took the lead and charged at the demon, swinging his greatsword at him. The demon jumped backward to avoid the blade and counterattacked by quickly shooting a few magic bolts. Siegfried held the flat of the blade towards the demon and charged into the bolts and slammed into the demon.
"Ugh!" The demon fell over and before he had the chance to get back up, Siegfried brought the greatsword down on his stomach. The demon cried out in pain and clawed at the sword, struggling to free himself. "I'll kill you! I'll rip you to shreds!"
Siegfried imbued his sword with light magic, knowing that the sword wasn't enough to kill the demon. The demon howled in an ear-deafening tone. The demon's stomach, where the sword had pierced through, started to smoke. In a few moments, the demon completely disintegrated, leaving nothing but ruined clothes behind.
Siegfried took a moment to catch his breath before pulling out his sword and looking over to where the other fight was happening. The area looked even worse than theirs. Buildings have been destroyed and the ground was broken apart.
"You've finished?" Lentis asked as he walked towards Siegfried's group. He looked at the pile of burnt clothes on the ground and nodded in approval.
Siegfried looked at the knights that were with Lentis and raised an eyebrow. Despite how destroyed their area looked, none of the knights looked like they even went through a battle. Unlike Siegfried's knights, their armors were still perfectly fine, and they looked like they were still full of energy.
'Did we get the hard one?' Siegfried wondered.
Lentis saw Siegfried's expression, and as if he was reading his thoughts, told him, "It was really only me that was fighting. The other knights didn't do much since I had the demon under control the entire time."
"Hmph, showoff. Anyway, speaking of the demon, did you kill her?"
"No."
"Huh?"
Lentis pointed to a large stone box not far from where they were. "She's trapped in there."
"Why didn't you just kill her?" Siegfried walked over to the stone box. It was almost twice as tall as him but was only slightly wider than him. Lentis walked over as well and answered Siegfried's question.
"We could pry some information out of her. Something must be going on if the demons are making a reappearance after all these years," he explained.
Jenabas, who had been checking on her soldiers, walked over to where Siegfried and Lentis were. "What is that?" she asked.
"A prison apparently," Siegfried answered. Jenabas examined the box, feeling the unusually smooth stone and knocking on it. It was hollow on the inside. "I don't hear anything. Are you sure she didn't kill herself or suffocate in there?"
Lentis, realizing his mistake, immediately broke the side of the box that was facing them. To their relief, the demon was still alive. The demon was hugging one of the walls of the box and was breathing heavily. If they had opened the box a moment later, she would have likely died of suffocation.
"So, What do we do now?" Siegfried asked. They didn't have any way to restrain the demon and couldn't just escort her. The moment she regains her strength, she would try to escape or cause more mayhem.
"I can place a seal on her." Jackel appeared next to them and bowed to the princess.
"That would be great," Siegfried said.
Jackel walked up to the demon and started to chant something. The demon offered no resistance since she was too exhausted to do so. Bands of light appeared around her. One closed in on her wings to prevent her from escaping, and a second, around her neck to seal off her magic. "Alright, it is done." Jackel doubled over right after finishing his spell.
"Jackel!" Jenabas bent over and caught Jackel before he hit the ground. The two knights rushed over to see what was wrong.
Jackel, in a raspy voice, told them, "I'm okay, I just used too much magic. I just need a little rest."
Siegfried called out to one of the knights to hurry over. "Sir?"
"Take him somewhere where he can rest."
"Yes sir." The knight helped Jackel on his feet, put his arm over his shoulder, and walked off with him.
Siegfried turned his attention back to the demon who was sitting quietly on the floor. "Quite the obedient one ey? The exact opposite of the other one." The demon said nothing and continued to stare blankly at the ground. "Looks like we don't have to worry about her escaping. Anyway, we have other things to talk about."
