Kies looked up at the dark ceiling. He didn't know how much time had passed but he couldn't seem to fall asleep, or rather, he couldn't fall asleep anymore. Kies brought the bracelet up to his eyes. He tapped it but there was no response. Kies had no clue where Arc went or if he was even still with him.
After what felt like another hour of lying in bed, Kies gave up on trying to fall asleep and got up. He brushed aside the blanket and went outside. The moon was still high in the sky. Kies started to explore the vicinity of the hut. After a bit of searching, Kies found a small clearing not too far from the small hut to practice his magic.
Just as he was about to start casting spells, the bracelet on his wrist made a beeping noise. "I thought you would be asleep at this time, but considering that you are an Aeos, you have no need for sleep," said Arc.
"Do I really not need sleep anymore?" Kies asked. That would explain why he didn't feel tired at all.
"It is optional. Aeos are able to restore their used magic faster when they sleep."
"Oh, I see."
That was something for Kies to keep in mind in case he ever ran out of magic. "Where did you go?" Kies asked next.
"My consciousness was back at the archive transferring data."
"Aren't you supposed to be watching over me?" Arc had said before that it would keep an eye on Kies. He didn't know why Arc would leave if that was its purpose.
"I suppose I did say that. Let me correct myself then. My mission is to guide you, which includes watching over you until you are capable enough to handle things by yourself."
"I don't see the difference between the two."
"Well, there is. Anyway, I found and transferred a few records of the Stormcaller's magic. It was difficult as there were not many to begin with. Since you are their direct descendant, yours should be somewhat similar. It should be easier for you to learn their magic than learning some other form of wind magic."
A holographic screen appeared in front of Kies. It showed information about the Stormcaller's magic and fighting style, but unfortunately, Kies didn't understand a single thing since he didn't know the language. To him, it was just a mess of unknown characters and shapes. "Am I supposed to read this?"
"Give me a minute for the translation." Slowly the symbols on the screen started to flicker one by one as they changed to characters that Kies recognized. After the last character was translated, Kies began to read what the screen said but was still unable to understand it.
"What is imagery magic?" Kies pointed at one of the sentences. "Is that like illusions or something?" The first thing that popped into Kies' head was that but he was pretty sure that that was not what it meant.
"Let me go through the archive for that." The bracelet turned off and the screen disappeared. Kies waited a few moments and heard a beep. The bracelet turned back on and another screen appeared. "I was not able to find any information specifying what imagery magic is but I did find something else about the Stormcaller's magic." The symbols on the screen translated quicker this time and Kies went through what it said but still couldn't find anything.
"Now it's talking about 'breath of creation.' What does that mean?" Kies asked. This record made even less sense than the last. Breath of creation sounded like giving life to something. Kies was pretty sure that that wasn't it either.
"I do not know."
"Then what is the point of showing this to me?"
"I thought that you may be able to make sense of it."
"Well, I don't. Is there anything else that you found?" Kies asked Arc.
"No, these two records were the only ones that talked about the Stormcaller's magic."
"Is there really nothing else?" The Stormcaller was the ruler of the Aeos, so why was there so little information on them? Kies found that quite odd.
"Like I said, there were not many records of the Stormcaller to begin with."
"Why is that?"
"It seemed that the Stormcaller was very secretive and did not reveal themselves often. Furthermore, records state that it was even rarer for them to use their magic," Arc explained.
"If that's the case then aren't these records just guesswork?"
"Possibly."
"..."
Kies waved his hand through the screen, trying to get rid of it. Since the records weren't going to help him then there was no point in trying to figure them out. "Can you get rid of this? I'm going to start practicing my magic and this is in the way."
The screen disappeared and Kies started to work on his magic. Kies thought a moment to think to himself. It was just a guess but if he was really the Stormcaller's descendant then wouldn't his magic naturally take on their form? Nina's water magic was very similar to that of her mother's and even though he wasn't human, it should be the same for him as well. Furthermore, Ammine or Arc had said something before of his magic being quite similar to the Stormcaller's for this very reason.
