Kies took off his light armor, placed it inside the hut, and went to the clearing to spend the rest of the night training his magic. For some reason, he found it much easier to control his magic now. Kies reckoned that it had something to do with the seals being lifted off him. Although he was still unable to make his wind as thin as a blade, he was able to compress it into an even smaller ball now.
'It's progress,' He thought to himself, though he felt no sense of achievement or satisfaction. 'Looks like I'm really losing my sense of emotion.'
The sun peeked through the trees and shone on the small clearing. The area looked like an absolute mess. There were small holes all over the ground and the nearby trees were damaged. It was like a small scale version of what had happened at The Soft Mists Forests with the wind spirits.
Kies stretched his back, not that he needed to anyway since he didn't feel anything anymore. He brought the bracelet to his face and saw that it was still glowing. He tapped the bracelet to see if Arc was there.
"What is it?" Arc responded. Kies was surprised that Arc hadn't left to go back to the archive again.
"Were you here the entire time?" Kies asked.
"Yes, I was collecting data on your magic."
"Oh, I thought you were still transferring data from the archive to the bracelet."
"That will be what I am going to do right now if you will excuse me." The bracelet suddenly went dark which Kies took as a sign that Arc was no longer with him. He went back to the hut and sat down on a stump next to it. He had been using magic for hours, and yet he did not feel tired at all. He started to examine his body to see if there was anything new. The wounds on his legs had closed up and the only thing left were two gaping holes on his pants. He didn't sweat either so there was no smell coming off him. It was nothing that he didn't already know.
Kies got up and started to walk back to the building where the king of the demons was. He wasn't sure what to call the building. The inside of it was well decorated but the outside looked fairly plain. He guessed that he could call it a castle, though it was a rather disappointing one if it really was.
Kies did not know the exact path that they took to the hut so he decided to follow Nina's advice and walk in a straight line in the general direction of where they had come from. After a few minutes, the trees started to clear up and he found himself in a village. Just as he appeared, he heard a voice shout out in alarm, "Human!"
Kies turned to where the voice had come from and saw that demons were running out of their houses with weapons and were rushing towards him. All of them were looking at him with murderous eyes. One of them charged at him with his weapon raised.
"Wait, I'm not-" Kies tried to tell the demons that he wasn't a human but got cut off before he could.
"Die you filth!" the demon charging at Kies yelled. Kies jumped to the side and the mace came clobbering down on the stone beneath it, shattering it and sending rocks flying.
"Listen to me!" Kies tried to get the demons to listen to him but they ignored everything that he tried to say.
Another demon joined the fight and shot magic at Kies while the first one swung his mace at him again. Unable to dodge both attacks, Kies quickly shot a ball of wind into the ground, letting out a shockwave of wind, knocking the demon back and changing the trajectory of the ranged attack.
"So you know some magic huh. Is that why you have the guts to come here?' The demon carrying a mace recovered quickly and was back on his feet. "You really think that just because you know some magic that you can just come here and kill us?"
"I'm not a human," Kies said again, but it was to no avail. The demon ignored him and readied his weapon. The other demons had formed a circle around them and were cheering on the demon that was challenging him.
"Rip him to shreds!"
"Bash his brains out!"
It was going to be difficult for Kies to get out of this situation. Kies started to channel magic to his feet. He needed to get out of here. Fighting with the demon in front of him won't do him any good since if he managed to beat him, there were many more around him that wouldn't hesitate to jump in.
"You can't escape!" The demon yelled while bringing his club down onto Kies. He jumped to the side again to dodge the strike. The club crashed onto the ground and created a cloud of dust. The demon swiftly swung his club to the side and Kies ducked to avoid getting his head bashed by it.
Kies quickly channeled some magic to his hands and shot some blasts of wind at the demon's feet to get him to lose his balance. The blasts did as they were intended to and knocked the demon off his feet. Utilizing the small amount of time that he had created for himself, Kies called the winds to his feet so that he could jump over the crowd of demons and make a run for the castle.
"Nejale, get up already, you're disgracing us!" The crowd of demons started to boo at the demon that Kies knocked over. After Kies had gathered enough magic, he shot off towards the side of the circle where he suspected was the direction of the castle. He leaped over the wall of demons but before he was able to land, he felt something wrap around his waist.
"Where do you think you're going off to rat?" The demon in the center had gotten up and shot out some kind of magical black chain from his hands and wrapped it around Kies. The demon yanked the chain and pulled Kies back into the circle. Kies crashed into the ground and rolled a bit before getting back on his feet. Kies felt no pain but he was sure that the impact had broken several bones assuming if he even had any.
The demons around cheered loudly. It looked like fighting was the only option left.
