Ammine looked at Haro with a confused expression, "What happened? I thought you had them all under control."
"I'm not sure how that happened either," Haro said, unsure of what had happened himself. Breaking out of his magic was no easy task. If the werewolves were able to do that then that meant that each of them had a considerable amount of magic power themselves or unreal physical strength to be able to brute force out of the restrictions. But it didn't seem to Haro that neither of those two was the case. It was something else completely and he couldn't figure out what it was.
"Looks like our only option left is to fight." Ammine looked around her and saw that the werewolves were slowly inching closer, looking for an opening to strike. Whenever they got too close, Haro would call down a wave of wind on top of them, forcing them to jump back. This continued for another few times before one of the werewolves howled something to the rest and they all charged in, in unison.
Immediately after doing so, two of the werewolves were hit by Haro's wind magic and sent flying back. The other four continued running in, not caring about their comrades that got blown away. Three of them collided with Ammine while the last one went after Haro. The werewolf tried jumping and swiping at Haro who was up in the branches but had no luck. Haro was too high up and couldn't be reached. Realizing this, the werewolf gave up and joined the other three fighting Ammine.
"Hoot, be careful. I'll cast some magic to support you." Haro chanted something and a shroud of wind enveloped Ammine. The wind enhanced her speed and provided a layer of defense against the attacks. While that was happening, the other two werewolves recovered from Haro's attacks and joined the battle. It was a six against one with Ammine being the latter.
Ammine, being outnumbered and overpowered, was forced to be on the defense and was pushed back by the werewolves. "Can you do something about this!?" she asked Haro while parrying blows.
"Hold on for just a moment child." Haro concentrated on gathering magic power for a high-tier magic spell. One of the werewolves noticed what Haro was doing and informed the rest of the group of it. Half the group split off from Ammine and ran to the tree that Haro was on top of and started clawing at its base. The tree shook unsteadily and interrupted Haro's chanting. Haro took off into the air just in time as the tree toppled over.
Haro started his chant again but this time in the air. The werewolves started throwing sticks and stones they picked off the ground at him but he flew just high enough so that they wouldn't be able to reach him. "I can't hold on for much longer," Ammine urged Haro to hurry up with his spell. She was still fighting against three of them and they were attacking her relentlessly.
Haro finished chanting his spell and he yelled at Ammine to brace herself. "Grab onto something!" Haro shot a vortex of wind from his wings at the werewolves under him. Upon seeing the vortex, the werewolves quickly scattered, but they only made it so far before the vortex started pulling them in.
Ammine grabbed a nearby tree to keep herself from being sucked in as well. Within seconds, all the werewolves were caught in the spell and collided against each other as they spun around. Just as Ammine and Haro thought that the fight was over, one of the werewolves let out an anguished howl and started to grow bigger. Its fur and eyes changed from gray and yellow to red, and following its transformation, the vortex suddenly started slowing down.
"Hoot!?" Haro channeled his magic into the vortex to try to increase its speed back to normal but it didn't work. The vortex slowed down to a halt and the werewolves fell back down to the ground.
Upon hitting the ground, five of them collapsed from dizziness, with the only exception being the werewolf that transformed, who stood perfectly fine and glared at Haro with its raging red eyes. Ammine charged at the werewolf but was pushed back in an instant when she reached it. "Hey owl, do you know what's up with this one?" Ammine asked Haro. This werewolf was different from the rest. It seemed that it was hiding its strength the entire time.
"No, but I'm certain that this werewolf is the one responsible for canceling my magic the first time as well."
The red werewolf looked back at its fellow werewolves and saw them lying on the dirt. They were in no condition to fight. After a brief moment, it let out what sounded like an angry grunt. "Hmph. Not bad, owl."
