Lost Records

Ammine jumped through the pages a second time and said, "Yep, this is a hundred percent genuine. This should've been lost during the war when our castle got destroyed by the humans. Wait, if this is here then..." Ammine dropped the book onto the couch and went to the bookshelves. She immediately picked out a number of books and threw them on the couch. Kies moved out of the way so that the books wouldn't hit him. "These are all books from our library. I really don't know how all of these got here but I'm taking them back."

"Don't you need their permission first," Kies pointed out. They might've belonged to the demons before but it didn't seem like that was the case now. They belonged to the witch and Kies wasn't sure that they could just take them without saying anything.

"Of course I'll talk to the witch or that weird man with a staff about this," Ammine told Kies. "These books are very valuable to us demons. I need to bring them back with me." She piled the books up into a neat stack and then looked around the room, searching for something. After not finding what she was looking for, she scratched her horn and said, "I guess I can just leave them here for now. It's not like I carry them during the fight tomorrow anyway." Ammine then left and went back to practicing punching and kicking at an imaginary opponent.

Kies watched Ammine throw a few rounds before getting back to the books. As much as he wanted to train as well, there was no point when he barely knew any magic spells. Other than the few that Haro taught him before, the only thing else that he can do is use chantless magic which wasn't very strong. Haro explained to him that his chantless magic will grow stronger even without him practicing it and that he should focus on chanted magic. He also said that it would help if he understood how his magic worked, which is the reason why he is currently looking at these books and trying to find any records of the Stormcaller's magic.

"Hoot, let's start going through these two books." Haro pulled out the demonic battle record book from the pile and placed it side by side with the travel journal. He then started flipping through both of them simultaneously with his wings. His eyes jumped between the books as he rapidly flipped through the pages. Kies couldn't believe what he was seeing. He never knew something like this was even possible.

Kies watched quietly as Haro went through the two books. The room was silent other than the sound of the pages flipping and Ammine's occasional "Ha" whenever she threw a punch or kick. Out of curiosity, Kies wondered what the banshee was up to. His eyes scanned the room and he found Issie laying on top of the bed, likely fast asleep, if banshees were even able to sleep.

After about three minutes or so, Haro closed the two books and said, "Okay, I got nothing. Neither of these two books has anything on the Aeos." Haro placed the book containing the battle records back onto the pile Ammine made and returned the travel journal back onto the shelf. "I have to say, that beastman sure has been to a lot of places. But sadly, the Aeos' floating fortress wasn't one of them.

"Floating fortress?" Kies asked. The Aeos had a floating fortress? He had been to where his supposed home is and he didn't see anything like that. It looked more like they had built everything inside of a giant crater.

"Yes, child. It was a giant artificial island created by your kind. If I remember right, they used this strange black material for everything. Apparently, it was very light but extremely tough at the same time." Kies recalled seeing the black material that Haro was talking about. "And I think it had a strong affinity with wind magic as well and that was why they chose to use that material. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to get something as big as an island to fly up into the skies with magic," Haro continued.

Kies scratched his head. Did he somehow accidentally miss seeing a giant island back then when they first arrived at the crater? No, he didn't recall seeing anything that even remotely resembled one. 'Ah well, guess I'll ask Arc about it later.' The list of things that he wanted to ask Arc was getting too big. He couldn't even remember most of the things anymore.

"Well child, since we couldn't find the thing that you're looking for, what's your plan now?" Haro asked Kies.

"Um..." Kies tried thinking of some things that he can do right now. "Can you teach me some new spells?"
