Bones And Marrow VI

"You take this side and I take the other side. Don't disappoint me," Ammine told Kies and then ran off to the opposite side of him and started slugging the undead with her magic-enhanced fists.

Kies watched her a little bit before he heard a growl come from directly in front of him and quickly reverted his attention back to the undead closing in on him. "Winds, gather, form, and pierce." Kies shot down the nearest undead that was only a couple of feet away from him and turned to the next closest one and did the same thing. "Winds, gather, form, and pierce." The second one dropped to the ground with a hole in its stomach.

This was too slow. The undead would very quickly overwhelm him if he continued to shoot them down one by one with Wind Javelin. Kies switched back to chantless magic and started shooting jets of wind rapidly at the undead. It was much quicker than chanting Wind Javelin but it took two to three hits to take one of them down. This wasn't going to work either.

What about the spell that he used to break the illusion, Wind Cannon? No, it only shot in a straight line. It had enough firepower to pierce through multiple undead at once but he doubted that he could get them all lined up for a good shot. Furthermore, he only had enough magic power to cast that spell around three times before becoming useless. It definitely wasn't a good idea to use that spell here.

Kies tried to remember what other spells Haro had taught him and if any of them would help in this situation. He needed a spell that could deal with multiple enemies at once. He remembered Haro teaching him spells that would be able to deal with a large number of enemies but he couldn't remember which one it was.

*Growl*

There was no time. The undead were surrounding him. Kies randomly chanted a spell in hopes of it being the one that he was looking for. "Winds, heed my call and serve my will. Take my foes before me and trap them in the endless winds." Luckily, he had chosen the spell that he wanted. Winds surged from every single direction and began spinning rapidly in Kies's palms. He threw the sphere of wind up into the air in front of him and it expanded into a vortex.

At first, the enemies were only slowed, but eventually, as the winds began to pick up pace, they started getting dragged towards it until they were completely sucked into it and spinning around. Bodies collided with each other and limbs tore apart. Kies felt himself start to get pulled in as well. "Winds, heed my call and serve my will. Gather around and shelter me from the storm that ensues." A layer of wind gathers around his body to protect him from his own spell.

Using these two spells, especially the first one, drained a lot of Kies's magic and he wouldn't have enough for a third spell. Since this was the case, Kies decided to pour the rest of his magic into maintaining the vortex for as long as possible or until all the enemies were gone. But with so many enemies, it was unlikely for him to get them all with his vortex so he would probably have to go with the first option of keeping it up till he ran out of magic.

While Kies channeled magic into the vortex, he turned his head around to look at how everyone else was going. Ammine was taking care of her side with no trouble whatsoever. She took down every undead that came her way in a single hit each. Her face and clothes were stained red and black with rotting blood but she didn't seem to care about that.

Haro was flying overhead the lady, bombarding her with wind spells. It looked like the owl had her pinned down and unable to fight as she was forced to be on the defensive, and was unable to fight back. She kept casting a spell that created a transparent wall to block Haro's attacks. Kies didn't know how Bloodmane was able to shatter it like it was nothing before since that wall looked very sturdy. It was able to take multiple spells from Haro before it broke and by then, she would have another one up. He spotted Issie not too far away from Haro atop a branch observing the fight.

Bloodmane was doing fairly well against the Bone Whistler. His fur had turned red and he looked a lot taller and bigger now. Since the Bone Whistler's hands were very out of proportion with his body, he wasn't able to move them well. His attacks were too slow to hit the nimble werewolf. After every attempt to attack the werewolf by the Bone Whistler, Bloodmane would claw at his hands, leaving gashes in his bones, and whenever the boney monster raised his hand, Bloodmane would go for his legs. He would also claw the occasional lesser undead that came his way since Kies and Ammine couldn't get all of them.

The entire battle was surprisingly going very well for them. Everyone was winning their fights. Kies really hoped that the fight would end in their favor and that he didn't just jinx it.
