The shaking gradually stopped as they got further and further away from the Bone Whistler until it just stopped. Ammine looked back and saw that the ground wasn't breaking anymore and the trees had stopped falling which meant that they were finally out of the Bone Whistler's zone of attack.
"We're safe now," Haro told everyone.
*Huff Huff* Ammine slid the big heavy werewolf off her back and slumped him onto a nearby tree. She took a moment to catch her breath and looked around at their surroundings. It looked like they were in a random part of the forest. All the trees looked the same and there was nothing that stood out in this area from the rest of the forest.
Ammine gently pressed her throat with the tip of her fingers and noticed that it was extremely dry. Water would be nice right about now but it didn't look like that was possible in a forest such as this. She was also somewhat hungry but she could probably manage for another day or two. She should've brought some supplies from the demon territory first before jumping through the portal. She hadn't expected the mission to take so long. But it was too late for that now. She'll just have to deal with it for the time being.
Haro flew over to Bloodmane's side and checked on the werewolf's condition. He was a little bruised, but overall, he was fine. Haro took a quick glance around at everyone else and saw that they were more or less okay as well, and then started on his telepathy spell to find Kies and the other werewolves of Bloodmane's pack.
"Hoot?" Haro sensed multiple presences heading their way and flew up into the air to get a better look at who it was. He saw several figures running toward them and waited for them to get closer before deciding on what to do. If they were enemies, he would blast them with magic, but he didn't want to jump too quickly to conclusions since they could be allies.
The trees made it hard for Haro to see, but he caught a glimpse of claws and fur which led him to believe that it was the werewolves and not the enemy. Haro soon found out that his guess was correct as the unknown figures got closer and revealed to indeed be the werewolves that had separated from them earlier.
After confirming that it wasn't an enemy, Haro swooped back down and landed on a low branch just in time to see the werewolves arrive. The werewolves saw their leader unconscious against a tree and rushed to his side. They all crowded around him but kept a good bit of distance as if to respect his private space.
"Who did this to our lord!?" One of the werewolves asked. He stood up tall and looked around at everyone, his gaze fixing on Ammine. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the demon suspiciously.
"Huh? What are you giving me that look for?" Ammine asked the werewolf in an annoyed voice. She had been standing still with her arms crossed, waiting for Haro to gather the rest of the group when the werewolf gave a grudging look. "If you're suspecting that I did that to him, then think again."
"Then who is it that had the galls to do this?"
"The old bone," Lisler answered the werewolves' question for Ammine. "We were made to flee against our will from the monster."
The werewolves shot the undead swordsman a mean look at his reply. Lisler only stood still and looked back at the werewolves. Since he was wearing a mask, it was impossible to tell what emotion he was feeling, especially when his voice was void of any. The undead was covered head to toe in rotting blood, giving him both a menacing and serious appearance.
"So that pile of bones did this to our lord?" the same werewolf asked again for confirmation.
"It is so."
The werewolves looked at each other and mumbled something between themselves before one of them turned back to their unconscious leader and put him on his back.
"What are you doing?" Ammine asked the werewolves.
"Taking our lord away from here," the werewolf carrying Bloodmane responded.
"The battle is lost, there is no point in us being here any longer. We have already fulfilled our part of the bargain to the White Witch," another werewolf said.
"What!? You're just going to leave like that!? Are you seriously going to run away with your legs between your tails!?"
The werewolves growled at Ammine's remark and one of them said to her, "Only an idiot would continue fighting. Take a good look at yourselves and then at us as well. All of us are too tired to go on. If you have a death wish and you want to continue fighting, you're welcome to. Just don't try to drag us into it as well." The werewolves didn't say anything else after that and left with their leader.
