Demon Reconnaissance VII

"If it weren't for them, we wouldn't be in our current state right now," Falte told Kies, although he already knew about what happened between them.

"The same for your race too," Ammine added, reminding Kies that they also wiped out his kind. "You have as much if not more of a reason to hate them than us," she said, obviously expecting him to hate the humans as much as they do. But this wasn't how Kies felt at all. He neither hated, nor liked them, and didn't want to kill them because of something that barely even affected him at all.

Kies couldn't say this so instead, he lied and agreed with the two. "Yeah, I do hate them to some extent," he forced the words out of his mouth. It wasn't a complete lie. He didn't like most humans as they were cruel and treated people outside their race with disdain. But not all of them were like that. The girl from yesterday was an example. She willingly put herself in danger to save an elvish slave.

It was unfair to say that every human was bad when the same could be applied to people from other races too. It wasn't like there were no bad beastmen, demons, elves, and the such either. Ethnicity has nothing to do with any of that. Kies wanted to tell this to the two demons, but he knew that it would go nowhere and cause them to become suspicious of him.

While Kies was busy thinking about these things, Ammine and Falte started eating their food. They both chose a dish, leaving the last one for Kies even though he didn't need to eat at all. "I have to say, those rats sure know how to cook. If only Rittle could make something half as good as this, then I would never complain about her cooking," Falte said while wolfing down his plate of food.

"I guess." Ammine also seemed to like the food, but unlike Falte, she was eating slowly and with manners. She didn't talk with her mouth full and took time to chew her food instead of just swallowing everything.

Seeing how they were enjoying the food, Kies pushed his food away from him and towards the two. "You guys can have this as well," Kies told them. He wasn't hungry, nor will he ever be. Might as well give it to someone who actually needed to eat in order to survive. He wasn't even sure if he could taste things anymore. But the chances were that he probably still could as he could still smell and hear things as well. The only thing that he knew for sure is that his sense of touch is gone along with his ability to feel certain emotions. Other than that, everything else should still be working just fine.

"Are you sure? Shouldn't you eat something as well?" Falte asked Kies, his words fairly hard to understand since he was talking with his mouth full.

"Yes. I don't need to eat," he explained to him.

"Really? Actually, now that I think about it, I haven't seen you eat or drink anything since we arrived," Falte just noticed. "Hm, must be nice, you don't need to worry about food or water."

"Yeah, it's nice I guess," Kies somewhat agreed. There were certainly a lot of advantages to not having to eat, and there were no disadvantages to it, well none that Kies could think of. Unless you really enjoy eating food, there were really no downsides to not having to eat. Even then, he could still eat if he wanted to.

"If you don't mind, I'll be taking that then," Falte said while pulling the plate to him. He had already finished all the food on his plate in such a short amount of time that it impressed Kies and disgusted Ammine. To compare, Ammine still hadn't even finished eating half of the food on her plate yet.

"How have you not choked? You literally dumped the entire plate into your mouth," Ammine asked Falte with a sickening face after seeing what he just did.

"Hm? I do chew my food you know," Falte replied to her with a mouthful of food, spitting bits of it out as he spoke. Ammine raised her arm and scooted her chair away from Falte before pushing her plate away, having lost her appetite.

"You're not going to finish that?" Falte asked her, still speaking with his mouthful. From the looks of it, he really didn't know any manners.

"You can have it," she told him, pushing her plate and giving the rest of her food to Falte as well.

Kies didn't think that the demon would be able to eat all of that but he was wrong. The two of them watched as Falte wolfed down all three plates of food. It was something that neither of them would have expected that Falte would be able to do since he was pretty skinny. But despite how thin he looked, he had a huge appetite and somehow ate three people's worth of food.

They were supposed to be talking about the mission, but Ammine was absolutely repulsed by Falte and left the table early, and thus they were unable to. She was waiting outside for them. After Falte finished eating, Kies gave him a napkin to clean his face with as he had crumbs and sauce all over his mouth and chin. While he was doing that, Kies took another napkin and helped clean the table a little to make it a bit easier for the waiter to take the food away.

It was a good thing that they were the only people on the second floor since if there were anyone else here, the sight of Falte eating would probably gross them out as well and cause them to lose their appetites. Even though Kies hadn't eaten anything, he felt as if he were about to throw up.

Kies told Falte to leave while he cleaned up his mess and afterward, he went back downstairs and told the waiter they were done. He thanked them and said that they were welcomed back here anytime and went upstairs. Heh, if he had seen the mess Falte made, Kies doubted that he would still say that.

Kies went out of the building, the bells ringing as he opened and closed the door, and found the two demons waiting outside for him. Ammine didn't even want to look at Falte's face and was avoiding eye contact with him. "Oh come on, everyone at the village eats like this," Falte argued with Ammine, who didn't seem pleased.

"Everyone? I think it's just you. Keep your distance from me, okay?"

"Hey, do you think there's something wrong with the way I eat?" Falte turned to Kies, asking for his opinion.

"Um... I haven't seen anyone else eat like you before," Kies told him, giving him an unclear answer. He had definitely seen messier eaters, but the way that Falte ate was... special to say in the least. "Let's just not talk about it," he suggested. The more they linger on about it, the more grossed out he and Ammine would feel. "Might as well forget it and talk about important things."

"I can agree with that," Ammine said while still keeping her body turned away from Falte.

"Alright then. So what's the plan? We didn't have a chance to talk about it since a certain someone left early," Falte rolled his eyes.

"I had a good reason to," Ammine coldly said back.

"Please, just stop," Kies told the two. They really sounded like five-year-olds right now and he was pretty sure that the two of them were at least twice his age. How old was he now anyway? He had forgotten that too. But since that wasn't something that was very important, he didn't really care much about it.
