Demon Reconnaissance VIII

The three of them took some time to figure things out and after a lot of disagreement, they all decided that the best thing they could do right now was go down into the sewers. This was Kies' first suggestion, but it was turned down because the two demons didn't want to go down there because of the smell. But in the end, they came back to sewers after every single other suggestion was rejected.

Kies was actually fine with anything and would have gone with whatever, and it was the two demons that kept disagreeing with each other. This would have been a lot easier if they had an assigned leader.

"Guess we're going down to the sewers then..." Falte didn't look happy with the idea and the same went for Ammine. But it was their mission and they had to start somewhere. They couldn't go back to the castle for the time being, and the streets were littered with soldiers. The reason for those two things was because of them. They had been in Silverfield for two days now and they had already caused a bunch of chaos. So much for keeping a low profile. Well, at least their identity wasn't compromised yet, else they would be in a lot of trouble.

The three of them walked back into the alleys, making sure that no one was following them before heading back to the slums. Kies brought back some more food and water for Messa and Jasyeu. After delivering it to them and making sure that they were okay, the three of them headed back out.

Kies took the lead and navigated around the slums to find the sewer entrance. After walking around for some time, they found it right next to the wall, leading right out of the city. It was deep in the slums and was where Kies had been earlier when he had been finding a place to use as a hideout. Apparently, the reason why the inner slums smell so bad and scared Jasyeu away was that the entrance of the sewers was there. They wouldn't have been able to find it if not for the stench. They smelled it before they saw it.

"Ugh..." Falte made gagging noises as they walked to the entrance. It really sounded like the food he just ate was about to come right back out. This, of course, made Kies and Ammine uncomfortable as well.

"Just pinch your nose for the love of God," Ammine shouted at Falte, unable to stand the sounds he was making.

"I don't think that will work." But Falte did it anyway and tried breathing through his mouth instead. It didn't take three breaths for him to suddenly start gagging again. The demon ran behind a house away from sight and then came back after a moment. "There goes my lunch," he said while holding his stomach. His face was green and he looked like he was about to lose more than just today's lunch.

Luckily, Kies had something covering his mouth and nose. It blocked the smell out a little and was helping him a lot. Ammine couldn't stand the smell anymore and took off her cloak and wrapped it around her face. Falte saw her and did the same.

After finally dealing with the smell, the three advanced into the sewers. There was no light down here and they had to follow Ammine who was lighting up a path for them with her magic. It didn't take long for someone hiding down here to find them and attack them.

"Die!" A crazed old man charged at them with a rusted knife and tried stabbing Ammine. The demon simply turned her body to the side and stuck her leg out, tripping the old man as he ran by her.

"Get some information out of him won't you," she told Falte.

"You will never get anything out of me!" the crazed old man shouted. He tried getting back on his feet but was pushed back down onto the dirty floor by Falte. The demon planted his foot on the old man's back and his other on the rusted knife. "Let go of me! I will kill you all!"

"I don't think we will be getting anything from him," Falte said, seeing how unstable the old man was.

"Torture is your specialty. Figure something out."

"I'll try."

"Ha! Torture? I bet you hit like a runt and- Ahhh!" Falte stabbed the old man's leg with his dagger and stomped his hand. "How dare- Ahhh!" The old man tried getting up again but Falte stabbed his other leg with his dagger.

"Answer my questions and I'll let you die a quick death," the demon told the crazed old man.

"You think I would listen to you? You- Oof!" Falte kicked the old man on his side, rolling him over onto his back. The crazed old man continued insulting Falte who, despite all his efforts, wasn't able to get him to obey. In the end, Falte gave up and killed the old man, leaving his body for the rats.

"Looks like getting information down here won't be easy," he commented.

"Especially if everyone down here is a lunatic like him, which I hope they aren't," Ammine agreed. "Do you really think that there will be nobles hiding down here? Not only does it reek, but it's pretty dangerous as well."

"There has to be at least one down here. It's one of the only places that they could hide in without getting found," Kies reasoned, though he was a little doubtful himself too. For a noble to be able to survive down here, they had to either be capable of protecting themselves or have bodyguards. But since most nobles knew how to use magic and also had many connections, the chances were that they had probably had both. There had to be at least one down here.
