Trouble With The Church II

Had he been a human, he would've died both those times. They were both rookie mistakes that the normal person couldn't afford to make in a fight but somehow he survived both of them just because he wasn't one. If he were any weaker or if he had organs then he would have been done for. It was good that neither of that applied to him since he was an Aeos. It was pretty unfair now that he thought about it. Being born a certain race could give one advantages that other races didn't have. But there wasn't really anything that could be done about that as no one could control what they were born as.

The assassins watched with shocked faces as the hole in Kies' chest filled up in a matter of seconds. It was almost like it had never existed in the first place. "What!? What kind of magic is that?" The enemy thought that his regeneration was a part of his magic. They didn't know that it was a racial thing and that his body wasn't actually real.

While the enemy was still shaken by what they just saw, Kies used this opportunity to track down the person who threw the knife at him by using the angle at which it pierced through him and found someone hiding on the roof of one of the houses. After realizing that Kies had found them, the assassin ducked behind the roof and disappeared from sight.

Using this information, Kies positioned himself at an angle where he was safer and would be able to see the enemy from both directions. He glanced over to where the baby dragon was and saw that its tail was gone. The sound of them fighting had probably woken it up, and if not, then the explosion from his Wind Cannon breaking that housing definitely did it.

Regardless of whichever one it was, the baby dragon had woken up and escaped. Kies didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Their mission might not be to destroy Silverfield, but it was the demon's ultimate goal along with the destruction of Otane as well. But he personally didn't want Silverfield to be destroyed because he had family here so he guessed that it was a good thing.

Kies turned back to the assassins who were now up to something else. They were all protecting the two mages in the middle who were in the midst of chanting a spell of some sort. It was his first time seeing two people chanting in unison and he didn't have a feeling about what was to come.

His gut feeling was spot on as the second the two finished their spell, a giant magic circle formed under them and expanded until it filled up almost the entirety of the place. The ground began to shine as lines and symbols appeared in the dirt and glowed.

Kies took a step back since his foot was on one of the lines as if it would do something. The entire area marked by the circle would get affected by the spell once it went off. Kies looked around. He was too close to the center to get out of it in time. Furthermore, it looked like that the spell would hit the demons as well. Speaking of which, why weren't they coming out of their houses in a situation like this. Surely they would have noticed the magic circle underneath them by now, so where were they?

"What!? Why isn't it working on him!?"

Kies turned to the two light mages who said that. They sounded very confused about something and it wasn't just them. The rest of the assassins in front of them were just as clueless as them.

"He's a demon, no? Why isn't the light restraining him!?"

So that was what the spell did. Then that also made sense why the four demons weren't coming out of the houses even though they were very obviously under attack. The light was preventing them from taking action and Kies was the only one who could move freely. They probably saw his regenerative ability and thought that he was a demon because of that.

"This spell works on mid-tier demons and lower. If it isn't doing anything to him, then he must be a high-tier demon!" The assassins continued to misinterpret Kies' identity and thought that he a powerful demon. The assassins began to look at Kies nervously and were unsure about fighting him anymore.

This was good for Kies. He could seize this opportunity and defeat the assassins while they still in a state of panic and were unsure of what to do. First thing first, Kies needed to stop the spell from the two mages. But before he could subdue the mages, he needed to deal with the guys in the front first. That shouldn't be too hard though.

Kies raised his arm and immediately all the assassins tensed up and were on high alert. Kies chose to use Wind Jet as it was a non-lethal spell and shot it at an assassin in the middle of the group. The Wind Jet hit him before he had the chance to react and the assassin hunched over onto the ground.

The rest of the assassins looked at their buddy and hesitated in deciding whether they should help him or not. Before they could make a decision, Kies shot another Wind Jet at the assassin right next to that one and he also fell over.

"Omar, stop the spell!" one of the light mages shouted to the other. "We're sitting ducks here. It's not working so there's no point in keeping it up," he reasoned. Their magic had no effect on Kies since he wasn't a demon and keeping it active will only cause them to suffer more from Kies' attacks.

The other mage nodded his head and the two stopped the spell and the entire group split up. They used the same formation as before where they formed two straight lines, but instead of having the bulkiest person stand in the front, this time the mages stood at the front. The two created a barrier in front of them to protect against Kies' attacks while the ones behind began to shoot and throw things at him.

This tactic was much better than the last one where they tried to get close to him but there was still a problem with it. The assassins behind the mages had difficulty hitting Kies since they had limited vision of him and there were always people in front of them.

Kies shot two Wind Cannons at either line and tore through the barriers like they were paper and knocked them all down. Realizing that this strategy wasn't going to cut it either, the assassins did the only thing that they could do and ran. They bolted out of the slums as fast as they could, not even daring to take a look back.

"Huh? Oh!" It didn't register to Kies that the assassins were fleeing. He thought that they were trying something new and didn't realize what they were doing in time. By the time he did figure it out, they were already too far for him to chase. It was a shame but it didn't look like he would be able to catch one of them.
