Something black appeared in front of Kies and reflected the stream of light just as it was about to reach him. The attack didn't get rid of it and only delayed it for a few extra seconds. Kies looked up at the person who saved him but couldn't see who it was. His vision was blurry from the pain in his chest. He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs, but couldn't.
"D*mn it, are we too late!?" Kies couldn't recognize the voice but he was pretty sure that it was Ammine who said that.
"Give that thing to him already!"
"Shouldn't we pull the swords out first!?"
"Does it look like we have the time!?"
"Ugh, I hope this works."
Keis felt someone place something in his hand. Nothing happened.
"It isn't working!"
"I don't know! Does he need to swallow it or something!?"
"Do you think I know either!? Do something! Anything! That strange bright-ish water is coming back fast!"
Someone grabbed the crystal from his hand and tried stuffing it into his mouth but his lips wouldn't budge. "Open your mouth d*mn it!"
Kies couldn't hear a thing they were saying nor see what they were doing. The sounds became muffled to the point where he couldn't hear anything anymore and his vision blacked out.
"Kies! Kies! Wake up!" Falte shook Kies but he didn't open his eyes. Was he dead? If he was dead, then they were dead as well. D*mn it, he knew that they shouldn't have agreed with this plan. Now they were all goners because of this mistake.
"Give that crystal to me!" Ammine snatched the crystal from Falte who was still trying to force-feed it into Kies' mouth. That obviously wasn't working so she didn't understand why he was still doing it.
"Messa, can you delay him?" Ammine asked her to buy them some time. Messa wasted no time and erected a magic barrier to slow down the flowing right even more.
Ammine had no idea what she was supposed to do with the crystal herself and started trying a bunch of different things in the short amount of time they had. She held the crystal close to Kies and moved it around, trying to see if that did anything. "Please work..."
As if to answer her wish, the crystal began glowing when she brought it close to his chest. It was faint at first but the light soon began to shine brightly. The fragment slowly flew up from her hand and then exploded into a violent burst of winds.
An otherworldly voice cried out from within the winds. The winds howled loudly and began to resemble the sound of hysterical laughter.

From somewhere in the dark, Kies heard a ghost-like voice call out to him. "You look like you're in trouble..."
Was he in trouble? Kies couldn't tell. He couldn't see or feel anything. Everything was black and empty.
"Do you want my help?"
Once again, Kies didn't know how to respond. Did he need help? Well, if he was stuck in a place then this then the answer was probably yes.
"Yes, I do," Kies tried to say, but nothing came out. His voice was gone. He tried to say it again but there was still nothing.
But even though Kies couldn't give the voice his answer, it seemed like it somehow heard it anyway. "In that case, lend me your body for a bit," the voice told him.
Lend his body to it... Kies remembered hearing this somewhere before. But where exactly? He couldn't quite remember. Well whatever, he couldn't use his body right now so he might as well let that thing take over for a bit.
"It's all yours."
"Good."

"Oh!"
Kies' eyes shot wide open, startling both Ammine and Falte who were both looking right at his face when it happened.
"You're still alive! That fragment worked. Now quick, do something about that rat!" Falte said while pointing at the cardinal.
Kies blinked a couple of times and tried moving but found that there were two swords anchoring his arms to the ground. A strong breeze blew through the area. The winds grabbed onto the swords and pulled them both out with one strong tug.
"Woah, that's pretty... uh, impressive," Falte noted. "But back to the point. Please do something about that! We're going to die soon."
But Kies didn't seem to hear him, or if he did, he wasn't paying him any attention, He got up and stretched his arms. He then clenched and unclenched his hands a few times.
"What are you doing!?" Falte didn't understand why Kies was ignoring them. Was there a problem when he absorbed the fragment?
"Three seconds till my barrier falls," Messa informed everyone. The light was tearing away at her barrier quickly and there were cracks all over it. It was on the verge of breaking.
Falte put his hands on Kies' shoulders and told him, "Hurry up and do something, anything!" Kies looked at Falte with his empty eyes and said nothing. "Is there something wrong with you!? There must be something wrong!"
"My barrier is down." Just as Messa finished what she was saying, the barrier shattered, and the light came crashing onto them like a tidal wave.
"Kill the heathens!"
"Offer your lives to God!"
The followers of God cheered for their demise.
"D*mn it! Let's go!" Falte tried dragging Kies out of the way of the light but he pushed Falte's arms away from his and walked in front of him. "Hey, what's the big idea!? We need to move."
Kies looked at the demon and saw that he had a bewildered look on his face. It was almost like he was thinking that Kies had lost his mind or something.
"Don't order me around," Kies told the demon. But instead of his usual voice, it sounded more hollow and spirit-like.
"What!? You're not Kies, who are you!?"
"That does not matter. Get out of my way."
