Kies grabbed Messa and Ammine who were both in front of him with the winds.
"What are you doing!? Have you lost your mind!? We're on your side."
"I know." Kies moved the two of them out of his way and stuck his hand out at the light.
"Don't touch it! Get away from it!" Ammine yelled at Kies. Has he actually gone crazy!? What was he thinking sticking his hand out at the light!?
Kies ignored Ammine's warning and continued what he was doing. Just as the light was about to reach him, it suddenly made a sharp turn upwards and curved over his head. He then made an upwards gesture with his fingers and the winds gathered all the light and condensed them into a small ball and shot it back at the cardinal.
The light splashed all over the cardinal like it was a liquid, but did nothing other than surprising him. "What... did you do..." For a moment, everything was quiet. It all happened so quickly that no one could figure out what just happened. Kies, who had been tethered to the ground and on the verge of death was now standing before them as if nothing happened at all.
"What did I just do? I'm not sure either. It's been a long time since I had a body," Kies, who wasn't really Kies, responded.
"What are you saying? Gah, forget it. As long as you're a demon, I must dispose of you," the cardinal said, sounding rather angry about Kies throwing his own attack back at him. "Everyone, shower them with holy water!" At the cardinal's command, every single one of the priests took something out and threw it at Kies.
"Man, you all sure are dense. After seeing what I did, do you really think that throwing things at me will work?" Kies lazily waved his hand and all the bottles stopped midair. They then all fell at the same time and hit the ground, spilling white liquid everywhere. The priests all began panicking and turned to the cardinal for help.
"Just stand still and accept your death!" The cardinal raised his chalice and a ray of light came down from the skies and shined on Kies. "Suffer for your sins!" The light began to burn the area, causing smoke to rise from the ground.
"Get out of there, you idiot!" Falte shouted at Kies who didn't seem to care that he was getting burned alive by the sun.
"What, this? This is nothing." Kies waved his hand and a gust of wind blew. The light ray of light suddenly bent, changing directions and going onto a couple of the priests. They howled in pain as the light they worshipped so much scorched their bodies, setting them ablaze and leaving nothing behind but bones and ashes in just a matter of seconds.
"How..." Falte and the rest of the demons didn't understand what they were seeing. The light was bending in the air like it had reflected off an invisible mirror or something. How did Kies, or rather, whatever was controlling Kies' body do that? What's even stranger is that just a moment ago, he had no magic power coming out of him at all and he still doesn't have any right now. How was he using magic at all?
The priests all looked at each other nervously. They were all scared to their bones after seeing their fellow followers die a horrible death right in front of their very eyes. The cardinal on the other hand still had the same hollow look on his face. If he was feeling anything, he wasn't expressing it. He lowered the chalice and stared at Kies, unable to figure out what kind of dark sorcery he used to reflect his attack like that.
Seeing how Kies isn't as easy of an opponent as he thought he was, the cardinal waved for his followers to move back as they were going to die if they tried fighting him.
"You all should move away too," Kies also told the demons. Even though they were a lot more resilient than the priests just because they were demons, if they got caught in the crossfire, then they were going to get hurt or even die.
Normally, Ammine and Falte would protest and question if it was a good idea for Kies to take on the cardinal who had ascended into an angelic form on his own, but after witnessing what he could do, the two of them said nothing and moved away.
"Don't get cocky because of your new power alright? If you can't win just say it and we will run, Kies... uh, or whoever you are," Falte told him, reminding him that running was an option.
"Run? No need. I'll take care of this in a breath's time."
"In a breath's time? That's a strange way of putting it. Well, we'll see about that."
Everyone moved away until it was just the cardinal and Kies who were standing face to face against each other. "I'll let you make the first move," Kies told the cardinal. It didn't matter which of them went first, he'll ultimately end up winning. That's how much confidence he had in himself.
The cardinal didn't look happy with Kies' comment but began chanting an attack anyway. Within seconds, the skies opened again and hundreds of swords made out of light began raining down on him.
"Opening a hole in the sky huh? I can do that too." Kies snapped his fingers and a vortex appeared in the air right underneath all the swords in a blink of an eye. It sucked all the swords into it, creating a massive swirling ball of light that blinded everyone who tried to look at it. It lasted for a few seconds before it abruptly disappeared with the vortex.
"Is that all you are capable of?" Kies taunted the cardinal. This was nothing to him. At the very least, he wanted a challenge, or otherwise, it would have been a waste of time to possess the body for just this.
