Nina watched as soldiers stormed through the streets and into the slums. Just a moment ago, the skies had happened and a tornado descended down. Right afterward, volleys of wind shot down from the sky as well. She had no idea what was going on in there but without a doubt, there was definitely an intense battle happening somewhere in there.
In addition to the soldiers running in there, Nina also saw a group of hooded people jump in right after them. They didn't look like the kingdom's soldiers or knights. The only possibility that she can think of is that they were the ones causing trouble in the slums.
All the fighting has attracted the attention of a lot of townspeople and they were all gathered around the outer edges of the slums trying to get a look at what was going on in there.
"Back off all of you! It's dangerous!" The soldiers tried to get them to move away but it was useless. There were too few of them to keep the crowd under control.
"Ahhh! I think I see a body!" someone yelled from within the crowd.
"Where!?"
"It's over there!"
Nina went over to that part of the crowd and tried to get a look at what they were talking about. There she saw that in the middle of the street between a couple of houses laid a body. It was flipped over and blood was all around the body, staining the dirt reddish-black. Everyone else also spotted the body and was beginning to freak out over it.
"What's going on in there!? Why is there a dead body!?"
"Don't say that! They might still be alive! Is there a healer here!? Someone go help them!"
"Everyone, please move back!" a soldier came and tried to move the crowd back.
"Tell us what is going on! There's a dead person there for f*ck's sake!"
The townspeople were not giving the soldier an easy time and were pressuring him for answers.
"I don't know either. That's what we're trying to find out right now. If you all can please let us do our work then we may be able to solve this all faster." The soldier tried to reason with the civilians and get them to move back from the slums but they refused to listen. Seeing the dead body had them all on edge and they weren't hearing anything the soldier was saying.
Nina moved back from the crowd and walked away. She had seen enough. There was a battle going on in the slums and it was dangerous to continue staying here. It was in her best interest to get out of here before something happened. Just as Nina thought that, a pair of soldiers came running out of the slums yelling at the top of their lungs.
"Everyone, run!"
"Get away now!"
The two soldiers' panicking, in turn, caused the civilians to panic as well and a number of them started running away from the soldiers without first asking what they were running from.
"What happened soldier!?" The soldier that was keeping the civilians in check ran over to one of them and stopped him. He tried to grab the panicking soldier's arms but was shoved aside. "Hey! Stop!"
"Get out of here while you still can!" the panicking soldier warned the masses. The other soldier that came running out with him was already long gone and was running back into the city as fast as his feet could take him.
As the soldier passed Nina, she saw a glimpse of the terrified expression on his face. It was the same kind of fear you would find in someone trying to save their life. Now she really wanted to know what was going on in the slums, but at the same time, she didn't. She knew that if she found out, she might start panicking as well. Yeah, it was definitely a good idea to get out of here while she still could.
Nina began running back into the city right behind the soldier. She could have stayed and found out what they were running from but by then it might be too late.
Nina ran until she ran out of breath and stopped for a short break. *Huff* *Huff* She looked back at the slums where the crowd and the soldier were. At that very moment when she turned her head, a huge fire erupted from somewhere in the middle of the slums and set all the buildings around on fire. The terrified crowd all began to bolt out of there after seeing the flames.
Nina saw the frightened crowd run at her and she quickly moved to the side to let them pass. As people ran past her, she almost got pushed down and ran over.
"Get out of the way!" A man in front of her saw that she was in his way and shoved her to the side.
"Oow!" Nina's shoulder slammed against a random box that happened to be next to her. The wood scraped her skin and blood began to ooze from her wound and trickled down her arm.
"Those f*ucking idiots!" The soldier who had been trying to keep things calm ran over to Nina and saw that she was hurt. He helped her up and examined the cut on her arm. "D*mn it... I don't have any bandages."
"It's okay." Nina politely took the soldier's hands off her arm and began healing it with her magic. Water appeared from seemingly nowhere and made a coat around her arm where the cut was. To the soldier's surprise, the cut began to close quickly. Within a matter of seconds, it had completely disappeared and her arm was back to normal. It was almost like the cut had never been there in the first place.
"Woah... You can use magic..."
"Yes, but I can only heal small things like this."
"Well, it's already better than what I can do. I can't even heal a tiny scratch."
"But I'm a mage and you're not."
"That is true, but my point still stands."
"That's true..."
"Anyway," the soldier changed into a serious tone. "You better go."
